Don't turn away from them. Then you will succeed wherever you go. 8  Never stop reciting these teachings. You must think about them night and day so that you will faithfully do everything written in them. Only then will you prosper and succeed. 9  “I have commanded you, ‘Be strong and courageous! Don't tremble or be terrified, because the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.'”

PRAYER: May YOUR followers (including me) demonstrate the transforming effect YOU have on people.

Mark 1:17-18 (GW) 17  Jesus said to them, “Come, follow me! I will teach you how to catch people instead of fish.” 18  They immediately left their nets and followed him.

NOTE: The primary job description given at the very beginning and then again at the closing Last Will and Testament (the  great commission” ) was about catching people.

PRAYER: Lord, teach me how to fish.  And then show us how to train disciples who can make more disciples.

1 Corinthians 1:25 (GW) 25  God's nonsense is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.

1 Corinthians 1:27-28 (GW) 27  But God chose what the world considers nonsense to put wise people to shame. God chose what the world considers weak to put what is strong to shame. 28  God chose what the world considers ordinary and what it despises—what it considers to be nothing—in order to destroy what it considers to be something.

PRAYER: YOUR plans and wisdom always trump what the world tries to offer.

Psalm 73:16-17,21-24,28 (GW) 16  But when I tried to understand this, it was too difficult for me. 17  Only when I came into God's holy place did I {finally} understand what would happen to them. 21  When my heart was filled with bitterness and my mind was seized {with envy}, 22  I was stupid, and I did not understand. I was like a dumb animal in your presence. 23  Yet, I am always with you. You hold on to my right hand. 24  With your advice you guide me, and in the end you will take me to glory. 28  Being united with God is my highest good. I have made the Almighty LORD my refuge so that I may report everything that he has done.

PRAYER: For all the confusion and doubt in my life, there YOU are. Always there, ready to guide, comfort and eventually take me home.  Nice!!!

Joshua 3:5 (GW) 5  Joshua told the people, “Perform the ceremonies to make yourselves holy because tomorrow the LORD will do miracles among you.”

NOTE: Holy= consecrate, dedicated, separate yourself out for this purpose.  You can’t look like the world and be an authentic representative for the LORD.

PRAYER: Lord, I dedicate my life to YOU.  Let the miracles flow!!!

Joshua 5:11-12 (GW) 11  On the day after the Passover, they ate some of the produce of the land, unleavened bread and roasted grain. 12  The day after that, the manna stopped. The people of Israel never had manna again. That year they began to eat the crops that grew in Canaan.

Mark 1:32 (GW) 32  In the evening, when the sun had set, people brought to him everyone who was sick and those possessed by demons.

PRAYER: May our churches be less shrine for the saints and more hospital for the hurting.

1 Corinthians 2:3-4 (GW) 3  When I came to you, I was weak. I was afraid and very nervous. 4  I didn't speak my message with persuasive intellectual arguments. I spoke my message with a show of spiritual power

PRAYER: As unequipped as I might feel to be a Good News spreader – empower me with YOUR Holy Spirit to share what I can.

1 Corinthians 2:10 (GW) 10  God has revealed those things to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches everything, especially the deep things of God.

1 Corinthians 2:12 (GW) 12  Now, we didn't receive the spirit that belongs to the world. Instead, we received the Spirit who comes from God so that we could know the things which God has freely given us.

PRAYER: I am not of this world anymore.  Thank YOU, very much!!!!

1 Corinthians 2:14 (GW) 14  A person who isn't spiritual doesn't accept the teachings of God's Spirit. He thinks they're nonsense. He can't understand them because a person must be spiritual to evaluate them.

PRAYER: I will be as bold and patient as I can.  But do lead me to those who might be more open to receiving YOUR Good News.

Psalm 74:11 (GW) 11  … Take your hands out of your pockets. Destroy your enemies!

PRAYER: Wow, that’s kinda blunt.  As for me, no more excuses, I’ll take my hands out of my pocket and get “busy”.

This is what the LORD God of Israel says: You have what I claimed for myself, Israel. You will not be able to defend yourselves against your enemies until you get rid of what I have claimed.

PRAYER: For the people who struggle with giving ten percent to YOU – may they witness and be inspired by other people, like me, who place YOUR glory above our personal pleasure.

DEVOTION: Real Jesus Followers may not be super smart nor extroverted – but they share the Good News anyway.  They may not have much money, but they always give to the LORD their tithes.

PRAYER: I could do this more, couldn’t I?!!  How cool it is that YOU actually want to hear from me!

Mark 1:38 (GW) 38  Jesus said to them, “Let's go somewhere else, to the small towns that are nearby. I have to spread {the Good News} in them also. This is why I have come.”

PRAYER: And this is why I’m here.  I’ll be a Good News spreader.

Mark 1:40-41 (GW) 40   Then a man with a serious skin disease came to him. The man fell to his knees and begged Jesus, “If you're willing, you can make me clean.” 41  Jesus felt sorry for him, reached out, touched him, and said, “I'm willing. So be clean!”

PRAYER: My favorite words “I’m willing”.  Only YOU

1 Corinthians 3:3 (GW) 3  because you're still influenced by your corrupt nature. When you are jealous and quarrel among yourselves, aren't you influenced by your corrupt nature and living by human standards?

PRAYER: I’ll try not to do that.

1 Corinthians 3:6-10 (GW) 6  I planted, and Apollos watered, but God made it grow. 7  So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is important because {only} God makes it grow. 8  The one who plants and the one who waters have the same goal, and each will receive a reward for his own work. 9  We are God's coworkers. You are God's field. You are God's building. 10  As a skilled and experienced builder, I used the gift that God gave me to lay the foundation {for that building}. However, someone else is building on it. Each person must be careful how he builds on it.

PRAYER: This is a team activity.  Forgive me for the times I forget that.

1 Corinthians 3:16 (GW) 16  Don't you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?

PRAYER: That’s is crazy.  I could take better care of this temple couldn’t I?!!!

PRAYER: Yet YOU love them both.  I know, I’ve received both from YOU.

Joshua 8:34-35 (GW) 34  Afterwards, Joshua read all the Teachings—the blessings and curses—as they had all been written down by Moses. 35  Joshua read {Moses' Teachings} in front of the whole assembly of Israel, including women, children, and foreigners living among them. He did not leave out one word from everything Moses had commanded.

PRAYER: May our church be a fed by the whole of YOUR Living Word.

Read: Mark 2:1-12, 1 Cor 4, Psa 76, Josh 10-12

PRAYER: I believe YOU are not only the Resurrected Lord, buy YOU are my Savior.

Mark 2:10-11 (GW) 10  I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then he said to the paralyzed man, 11  “I'm telling you to get up, pick up your cot, and go home!”

PRAYER: I love the miracles, but I truly appreciate YOUR mercy and grace.

1 Corinthians 4:5 (GW) 5  Therefore, don't judge anything before the appointed time. Wait until the Lord comes. He will also bring to light what is hidden in the dark and reveal people's motives. Then each person will receive praise from God.

1 Corinthians 4:10-13 (GW) 10  We have given up our wisdom for Christ, but you have insight because of Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honored, but we are dishonored. 11  To this moment, we are hungry, thirsty, poorly dressed, roughly treated, and homeless. 12  We wear ourselves out doing physical labor. When people verbally abuse us, we bless them. When people persecute us, we endure it. 13  When our reputations are attacked, we remain courteous. Right now we have become garbage in the eyes of the world and trash in the sight of all people.

PRAYER: Forgive my whining, I will bless more, persevere better, and be gracious always.

1 Corinthians 4:15-16 (GW) 15  You may have countless Christian guardians, but you don't have many {spiritual} fathers. I became your father in the Christian life by telling you the Good News about Christ Jesus. 16  So I encourage you to imitate me.

NOTE: a guardian is like a baby sitter, but the higher goals is to be spiritually disciple not coddled.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to go from just baby sitting my brothers and sisters in Christ – to actually discipling them.

1 Corinthians 4:20 (GW) 20  God's kingdom is not just talk, it is power.

Psalm 76:11 (GW) 11  Make vows to the LORD your God, and keep them. Let everyone around him bring gifts to the one who must be feared.

NOTE: I guess this is evidence that God approves pledge cards.

PRAYER: Lord, with or without a pledge card – I certainly bring my offerings and tithes to YOU with great respect and appreciation.

Joshua 11:4-6 (GW) 4  They came out with all their armies. Their troops were as numerous as the grains of sand on the seashore. They also had horses and chariots. 5  All these kings camped together by the Springs of Merom in order to fight Israel. 6  The LORD told Joshua, “Don't be afraid of them because I am going to give them to Israel. About this time tomorrow they will all be dead. You must disable their horses so that they cannot be used in battle. You must burn their chariots.”

PRAYER: Why do I ever get so nervous?  YOU have always proved trustworthy, and YOU do the impossible!

DEVOTION: God is a trustworthy guide, then I can try to reflect that in my life to others.
