If you use this weekly guide  - you'll cover all of the Bible in just 300 days.   This is sort of a "Cliff Notes" version of the reading plan that Pastor John uses.  But it's more than just learning stuff.  This helps you to communicate with God.  You'll hear Him, and He will hear you..

Read: Mark 2:13-17, 1 Cor 5, Psa 77, Josh 13-14

Mark 2:14 (GW) 14  When Jesus was leaving, he saw Levi, son of Alphaeus, sitting in a tax office. Jesus said to him, “Follow me!” So Levi got up and followed him.

PRAYER: I choose to be a “follower” too, …YOUR follower.  Lead me today!

Mark 2:15-16 (GW) 15  Later Jesus was having dinner at Levi's house. Many tax collectors and sinners who were followers of Jesus were eating with him and his disciples. 16  When the scribes who were Pharisees saw him eating with sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

PRAYER: May the church be bold in reaching other “sinners” for the Kingdom of God.  Show me which “tax collector and sinner” I can reach with YOUR Good News.

Mark 2:17 (GW) 17  When Jesus heard that, he said to them, “Healthy people don't need a doctor; those who are sick do. I've come to call sinners, not people who think they have God's approval.”

PRAYER: May today’s church stop being a shrine for the saints and make it YOUR Hospital for the spiritually wounded and wandering.

1 Corinthians 5:1-2,5,9 (GW) 1  Your own members are aware that there is sexual sin going on among them. …. 2  You're being arrogant when you should have been more upset about this. If you had been upset, the man who did this would have been removed from among you. … 5  hand such a person over to Satan to destroy his corrupt nature so that his spiritual nature may be saved on the day of the Lord. … 9  In my letter to you I told you not to associate with people who continue to commit sexual sins.

PRAYER: Wow, that’s a big issue today Lord.  But YOU are right, I should probably be a little more upset about it.

1 Corinthians 5:6-7 (GW) 6  It's not good for you to brag. Don't you know that a little yeast spreads through the whole batch of dough? 7  Remove the old yeast {of sin} so that you may be a new batch of dough, ….

PRAYER: I realize that if I start loosening the standards I’m just inches away from falling myself. I will hold the YOUR standard high.

1 Corinthians 5:10-11 (GW) 10  I didn't tell you that you could not have any contact with unbelievers who commit sexual sins, are greedy, are dishonest, or worship false gods. If that were the case, you would have to leave this world. 11  Now, what I meant was that you should not associate with people who call themselves brothers or sisters in the Christian faith but live in sexual sin, are greedy, worship false gods, use abusive language, get drunk, or are dishonest. Don't eat with such people.

PRAYER: I don’t want to appear ‘hooty snooty’, but I know I have to separate myself from anyone who calls themselves Christian without really making YOU Lord over all their life. But in the infrequent visits I might have with them, may I remain strong in my walk and a good example to them.

1 Corinthians 5:12 (GW) 12  After all, do I have any business judging those who are outside {the Christian faith}? Isn't it your business to judge those who are inside?

NOTE: Just remember that to try someone requires grace (and having a pretty clean record yourself [Luke 6:37])

PRAYER: Lord, I can’t say it’s “none of my business”.  I will be involved in other peoples’ lives.  I want better for me and them.

Psalm 77:2,11 (GW) 2  On the day I was in trouble, I went to the Lord for help. At night I stretched out my hands in prayer without growing tired. Yet, my soul refused to be comforted. 11  I will remember the deeds of the LORD. I will remember your ancient miracles.

PRAYER: In those rougher days, I will try to remember YOUR mighty moves in the past.

Psalm 77:19-20 (GW) 19  Your road went through the sea. Your path went through raging water, but your footprints could not be seen. 20  Like a shepherd, you led your people. ….

PRAYER: Lead me through the rough waters. I may not see evidence of YOUR presence – but I know that I can trust YOU.

Joshua 14:10-12 (GW) 10  “So look at me. The LORD has kept me alive as he promised. It's been 45 years since Israel wandered in the desert when the LORD made this promise to Moses. So now look at me today. I'm 85 years old. 11  I'm still as fit to go to war now as I was when Moses sent me out. 12  Now give me this mountain region which the LORD spoke of that day. You heard that the people of Anak are still there and that they have large, fortified cities. If the LORD is with me, I can force them out, as he promised.”

PRAYER: May I trust YOU, and always work hard on YOUR behalf like Caleb.  No excuses.  I am YOUR servant.  YOU are with me to do great and might things.

DEVOTION: Jesus followers love being part of a sinners transformation.  We may get overwhelmed, we may get old, but we will ever be “preparing the way of the LORD”.

Read: Mark 2:18-28, 1 Cor 6:1-11, Psa 78:1-39, Josh 15-17

Mark 2:20 (GW) 20  But the time will come when the groom will be taken away from them. Then they will fast.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for the other people fasting in our church.  Bless them for their devotion to YOU and the church.

Mark 2:21-22 (GW) 21  “No one patches an old coat with a new piece of cloth that will shrink. Otherwise, the new patch will shrink and rip away some of the old cloth, and the tear will become worse. 22  People don't pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the wine will make the skins burst, and both the wine and the skins will be ruined. Rather, new wine is to be poured into fresh skins.”

PRAYER: Help us to find and witness to people who are open to the transformational power of YOUR presence in their lives.

Mark 2:27 (GW) 27  Then he added, “The day of worship was made for people, not people for the day of worship.

PRAYER: I know that honoring YOU and serving one another – is the quickest way to feeling blessed.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 (GW) 9  Don't you know that wicked people won't inherit the kingdom of God? Stop deceiving yourselves! People who continue to commit sexual sins, who worship false gods, those who commit adultery, homosexuals, 10  or thieves, those who are greedy or drunk, who use abusive language, or who rob people will not inherit the kingdom of God. 11  That's what some of you were! But you have been washed and made holy, and you have received God's approval in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

PRAYER: Help me to see the potential in the wicked.  And help me to keep my nose clean too. I may not be a thief but I said abusive things, I’ve idolized success (and the American dream), and I’ve been known to be stingy from time to time.  Help me too!

Psalm 78:1-2 (GW) 1  Open your ears to my teachings, my people. Turn your ears to the words from my mouth. 2  I will open my mouth to illustrate points. I will explain what has been hidden long ago,

PRAYER: I am listening.  Teach me!!!

Psalm 78:6-7 (GW) 6  so that the next generation would know them. Children yet to be born {would learn them}. They will grow up and tell their children 7  to trust God, to remember what he has done, and to obey his commands.

PRAYER: Bless our parents and Sunday School teachers.  May our children teach children to trust, remember and obey.

Psalm 78:29-30 (GW) 29  They ate more than enough. He gave them what they wanted, 30  but they still wanted more. While the food was still in their mouths,

PRAYER: We Americans are amazing aren’t we?!!! Never satisfied.  Forgive us, Lord!

Psalm 78:36-38 (GW) 36  They flattered him with their mouths and lied to him with their tongues. 37  Their hearts were not loyal to him. They were not faithful to his promise. 38  But he is compassionate. He forgave their sin. He did not destroy them. He restrained his anger many times. He did not display all of his fury.

PRAYER: YOU deserve better from us.  But thank YOU for YOUR patience, YOUR mercy and grace.

Joshua 16:10 (GW) 10  However, they did not force out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So the Canaanites still live in Ephraim today, but they are required to do forced labor.

Joshua 17:18 (GW) 18  The mountain region will be yours as well. It is a forest, so you will have to clear it. All of it will be yours. But you must force out the Canaanites, even though they are strong and have chariots made of iron.”

PRAYER: I have lots of reasons I can’t separate myself from bad people and bad stuff, but YOU know my futile thinking.  Empower me to clear things in my life, to take “the land”, to face whatever giants I may encounter.

DEVOTION: the Jesus follower is a new creation, old things are gone, and behold all things are made new.

Wednesday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

Read: Mark 3:1-19, 1 Cor 6:12-20, Psa 78:40-72, Josh 18-19

Mark 3:2,5 (GW) 2  The people were watching Jesus closely. They wanted to see whether he would heal the man on the day of worship so that they could accuse him of doing something wrong.   5  Jesus was angry as he looked around at them. He was deeply hurt because their minds were closed. Then he told the man, “Hold out your hand.” The man held it out, and his hand became normal again.

NOTE: People are funny. They ignore the benefits in order to protect the perverted understanding of the Law. They nailed a guy for healing someone.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be patient and loving to those whose minds are so closed to YOUR Good News.

1 Corinthians 6:12 (GW) 12  Someone may say, “I'm allowed to do anything,” but not everything is helpful. I'm allowed to do anything, but I won't allow anything to gain control over my life.

PRAYER: YOU make me free, but I realize I need to still make good choices.

1 Corinthians 6:15-17 (GW) 15  Don't you realize that your bodies are parts of Christ's body? Should I take the parts of Christ's body and make them parts of a prostitute's body? That's unthinkable! 16  Don't you realize that the person who unites himself with a prostitute becomes one body with her? God says, “The two will be one.” 17  However, the person who unites himself with the Lord becomes one spirit with him.

PRAYER: Forgive me for fouling up an otherwise perfect relationship with YOU.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (GW) 19  Don't you know that your body is a temple that belongs to the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit, whom you received from God, lives in you. You don't belong to yourselves. 20  You were bought for a price. So bring glory to God in the way you use your body.

PRAYER: I can do better with my physical body.  Holy Spirit help me to clean up this house of mine.

Psalm 78:52-53 (GW) 52  But he led his own people out like sheep and guided them like a flock through the wilderness. 53  He led them safely. They had no fear while the sea covered their enemies.

PRAYER: I trust YOU to guide us, YOUR church, through thick and thin.

Psalm 78:70-72 (GW) 70  He chose his servant David. He took him from the sheep pens. 71  He brought him from tending the ewes that had lambs so that David could be the shepherd of the people of Jacob, of Israel, the people who belonged to the LORD. 72  With unselfish devotion David became their shepherd. With skill he guided them.

PRAYER: May our church be open whatever lowly individuals YOU might choose to help shepherd us.

Joshua 18:8 (GW) 8  As the men got ready to go, Joshua ordered them to write a description of the land. He said, “Go survey the land. Write a description of it, and return to me. Then I will draw lots for you in the presence of the LORD here in Shiloh.”

NOTE: So even though God gives us “promises” – we are not exempt from doing the research and footwork required in attaining “said” promise.

PRAYER: Lord, I will do my research, I will an active promise seeker and not an couch-potato promise claimer.

DEVOTION: God can use anybody, but once the Holy Spirit enters them  - they need to be devoted, pure, and active

Thursday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

Read: Mark 3:20-35, 1 Cor 7:1-16, Psa 79, Josh 20-21

Mark 3:24-25 (GW) 24  If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot last. 25  And if a household is divided against itself, that household will not last.

PRAYER: There is wisdom there for all the relationships we’re in (church, home, work, play, etc.), right?!!

Mark 3:29 (GW) 29  But whoever curses the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven. He is guilty of an everlasting sin.”

NOTE: this is not about using a bad word. This is about rejecting the Forgiver, which is a person’s choice to do.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive YOU not only as my Lord, but as my ultimate forgiver.

Mark 3:33-35 (GW) 33  He replied to them, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 34  Then looking at those who sat in a circle around him, he said, “Look, here are my mother and my brothers. 35  Whoever does what God wants is my brother and sister and mother.”

PRAYER: The church is my family for sure.  Thank YOU for being the ultimate tie that binds.

1 Corinthians 7:2-4 (GW) 2  But in order to avoid sexual sins, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband. 3  Husbands and wives should satisfy each other's {sexual} needs. 4  A wife doesn't have authority over her own body, but her husband does. In the same way, a husband doesn't have authority over his own body, but his wife does.

NOTE: Today’s “R” rated message is about sex being a “gift” that one man gives one woman in the context of a marriage.  Something Paul’s culture did not teach either.

PRAYER: I pray for all the marriages in the church.  May each couple seek to please YOU as well as each other.

1 Corinthians 7:8-9 (GW) 8  I say to those who are not married, especially to widows: It is good for you to stay single like me. 9  However, if you cannot control your desires, you should get married. It is better for you to marry than to burn {with sexual desire}.

PRAYER: I lift up all the singles in our church. For those whose sexual urges are an issue – help them to find a mate who love YOU too.

1 Corinthians 7:10-11 (GW) 10  I pass this command along (not really I, but the Lord): A wife shouldn't leave her husband. 11  If she does, she should stay single or make up with her husband. Likewise, a husband should not divorce his wife.

PRAYER: Again, I lift up our marriages.  May those in crisis be led to good Christian counseling.

Psalm 79:9 (GW) 9  Help us, O God, our savior, for the glory of your name. Rescue us, and forgive our sins for the honor of your name.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for all the “second-chances” YOU give us.

Psalm 79:13 (GW) 13  Then we, your people, the flock in your pasture, will give thanks to you forever. We will praise you throughout every generation.

PRAYER: May we be loud on the weekend and louder still in the workplace.

Joshua 20:2 (GW) 2  “Tell the people of Israel, ‘Now choose for yourselves the cities of refuge about which I spoke to you through Moses.

PRAYER: May all our churches be “cities of refuge”.  I do want to lift up all the Celebrate Recovery church because of the great work they do with “broken” people.

Joshua 21:45 (GW) 45  Every single good promise that the LORD had given the nation of Israel came true.

PRAYER: YOU are trustworthy as well as generous.

DEVOTION: The culture a Christian lives in may not understand nor approve of our high principles (marriage, mercy, family), but we hold to them none-the-less.

Friday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

Read: Mark 4:1-20, 1 Cor 7:17-40, Psa 80, Josh 22-23

Mark 4:15-20 (GW) 15  …, Satan comes at once and takes away the word that was planted in them. 16  … they hear the word, they accept it at once with joy. 17  But they don't develop any roots. They last for a short time. When suffering or persecution comes along because of the word, they immediately fall {from faith}. 18  …. They hear the word, 19  but the worries of life, the deceitful pleasures of riches, and the desires for other things take over. They choke the word so that it can't produce anything. 20  … good ground. They hear the word, accept it, and produce cropsthirty, sixty, or one hundred times as much as was planted.”

PRAYER: I have been shallow, I have faltered in the faith, I have let my passions (good and bad) keep me from growing, but I want to be fruitful.  I will hear YOUR word, apply YOUR Word, and people will find YOU because of me.

1 Corinthians 7:23 (GW) 23  You were bought for a price. Don't become anyone's slaves.

PRAYER: Forgive me for the times I’ve allowed myself to be enslaved to the temptations of this world.

1 Corinthians 7:30-31 (GW) 30  Those who have eyes filled with tears should live as though they have no sorrow. Those who are happy should live as though there was nothing to be happy about. Those who buy something should live as though they didn't own it. 31  Those who use the things in this world should do so but not depend on them. It is clear that this world in its present form is passing away.

PRAYER: Boy, that’s a hard one for us American Christians.   Lord, help me to live a balanced and God honoring life.

1 Corinthians 7:35 (GW) 35  …. I'm showing you how to live a noble life of devotion to the Lord without being distracted by other things.

PRAYER: Raise up more principled and focused leaders in the church. May I be one of them.

Psalm 80:17-18 (GW) 17  Let your power rest on the man you have chosen, the son of man you strengthened for yourself. 18  Then we will never turn away from you. Give us life again, and we will call on you.

PRAYER: Grant me power and resolve to do YOUR will.

Joshua 22:5 (GW) 5  Carefully follow the commands and teachings that the LORD'S servant Moses gave you. Love the LORD your God, follow his directions, and keep his commands. Be loyal to him, and serve him with all your heart and soul.”

PRAYER: With all I have I will love, serve, follow, and keep YOUR Word.

Joshua 23:6 (GW) 6  Now you must be very strong to keep and to do everything written in the Book of Moses' Teachings. Don't turn away from them.

PRAYER: I will be courageous show my faith.

Joshua 23:7,12,13 (GW) 7  Don't get mixed up with the nations left in your territory. ... Don't ever serve their gods or bow down to them…. 12  “… if you intermarry with them or associate with them,… 13  …, they will be a snare and a trap for you, ….

PRAYER: I won’t be a snob but I’m not gonna be chummy with the people of the world either.

Joshua 23:10-11 (GW) 10  One of you used to chase a thousand. That was because the LORD your God was fighting for you, as he had promised you. 11  Be very careful to love the LORD your God.

PRAYER: YOU make the odds much more tolerable.  Thank YOU!

DEVOTION: the Jesus follower is unquestionably committed and fruitful.
