Mark 9:48-49 (GW) 48  In hell worms that eat the body never die, and the fire is never put out. 49  Everyone will be salted with fire.

2 Corinthians 1:12 (GW) 12  We are proud that our conscience is clear. We are proud of the way that we have lived in this world. We have lived with a God-given holiness and sincerity, especially toward you. It was not by human wisdom that we have lived but by God's kindness.

Read: Mark 10:17-34, 2 Cor 2, Psa 97, 1 Sam 6-8

Mark 10:21,23,25 (GW) 21  Jesus looked at him and loved him. He told him, “You're still missing one thing. Sell everything you have. Give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then follow me!” … 23  Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it will be for rich people to enter the kingdom of God!” … 25  It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”

NOTE: Sometimes I wonder how many Americans, who call themselves Christian, will really get in.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to manage my finances rather than the other way around.  And may I be a generous follower.

PRAYER: I like family, farm, and fortune – but I’ll content myself with the gift of eternal life.

Mark 10:33-34 (GW) 33  “We're going to Jerusalem. There the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the scribes. They will condemn him to death and hand him over to foreigners. 34  They will make fun of him, spit on him, whip him, and kill him. But AFTER THREE DAYS HE WILL COME BACK TO LIFE.

PRAYER: YOU couldn’t be any clearer, yet I like YOUR disciples, sometimes remain dumb to what YOUR saying. Help me to unclog my hearing and soften my heart to receive all of YOUR Word.

2 Corinthians 2:6-7 (GW) 6  The majority of you have imposed a severe enough punishment on that person. 7  So now forgive and comfort him. Such distress could overwhelm someone like that if he's not forgiven and comforted.

NOTE: Nobody likes to administer discipline. But the love that drove you to do it – should be ready to quickly help with the ‘patching it up’ process.

PRAYER: Lord, may we be strong enough in our love to discipline, and compassionate enough to comfort and forgive quickly.

2 Corinthians 2:11 (GW) 11  I don't want Satan to outwit us. After all, we are not ignorant about Satan's scheming.

2 Corinthians 2:14-15 (GW) 14  But I thank God, who always leads us in victory because of Christ. Wherever we go, God uses us to make clear what it means to know Christ. It's like a fragrance that fills the air. 15  To God we are the aroma of Christ among those who are saved and among those who are dying.

PRAYER: May we all be victorious in sharing our faith this week.

1 Samuel 7:3 (GW) 3  Samuel told the entire nation of Israel, “If you are returning to the LORD wholeheartedly, get rid of the foreign gods you have, …. Make a commitment to the LORD, and serve only him. Then he will rescue you from the Philistines.”

PRAYER: Help me to identify and remove anything in my life that is not pleasing to YOU.  I am committed to YOU.  I live to serve YOU.

1 Samuel 7:10-11 (GW) 10  While Samuel was sacrificing the burnt offering, the Philistines came to fight against Israel. On that day the LORD thundered loudly at the Philistines and threw them into such confusion that they were defeated by Israel. 11  Israel's soldiers left Mizpah, pursued the Philistines, and killed them as far as Beth Car.

PRAYER: I love the picture of believers worshiping while YOU are out there taking care of things.  Nice!

DEVOTION: Jesus followers are on the constant watch to be free of worldly temptations.  Their love is tough, their mercy is quick, and they try to do all to God’s glory and pleasure.

Mark 10:43-45 (GW) 43  But that's not the way it's going to be among you. Whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant. 44  Whoever wants to be most important among you will be a slave for everyone. 45  It's the same way with the Son of Man. He didn't come so that others could serve him. He came to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people.”

PRAYER: I can learn from YOU to serve and sacrifice more.

Mark 10:48 (GW) 48  The people told him to be quiet. But he shouted even louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

PRAYER: I do see better, and I am going to follow …YOU!!!

2 Corinthians 3:2-3 (GW) 2  You're our letter of recommendation written in our hearts that everyone knows and reads. 3  It's clear that you are Christ's letter, written as a result of our ministry. You are a letter written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, a letter written not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

NOTE: So how does your letter read?.

PRAYER: Lord, may my life truly reflect YOUR love and power.

2 Corinthians 3:5 (GW) 5  By ourselves we are not qualified in any way to claim that we can do anything. Rather, God makes us qualified.

1 Samuel 9:21 (GW) 21  Saul replied, “I am a man from the tribe of Benjamin, the smallest tribe of Israel. My family is the most insignificant of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin. So why are you saying such things to me?”

1 Samuel 10:1 (GW) 1  Samuel took a flask of olive oil, poured it on Saul's head, kissed him, and said, “The LORD has anointed you to be ruler of his people Israel. You will rule his people and save them from all their enemies. ….

PRAYER: I guess YOU can do what YOU want to do through whomever YOU choose,… including me.

DEVOTION: God can use whomever He wants to whenever He wants to.  That person won’t look like the person you’d pick, so stay open.

2 Corinthians 4:4 (GW) 4  The god of this world has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. As a result, they don't see the light of the Good News about Christ's glory. It is Christ who is God's image.

PRAYER: I realize that the people that need the Good News are going to require a little time and patience, …like YOU’ve shared with me.

2 Corinthians 4:8-10 (GW) 8  In every way we're troubled, but we aren't crushed by our troubles. We're frustrated, but we don't give up. 9  We're persecuted, but we're not abandoned. PRAYER: And I will speak of my faith to others.  Show me who.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (GW) 16  That is why we are not discouraged. Though outwardly we are wearing out, inwardly we are renewed day by day. 17  Our suffering is light and temporary and is producing for us an eternal glory that is greater than anything we can imagine. 18  We don't look for things that can be seen but for things that can't be seen. Things that can be seen are only temporary. But things that can't be seen last forever.

PRAYER: Help me keep my eyes on YOU and YOUR kingdom instead of the glittery things of this world.

Psalm 99:7-8 (GW) 7  He spoke to them from a column of smoke. They obeyed his written instructions and the laws that he gave them. 8  O LORD, our God, you answered them. You showed them that you are a forgiving God and that you are a God who punishes their {sinful} deeds.
