If you use this weekly guide  - you'll cover all of the Bible in just 300 days.   This is sort of a "Cliff Notes" version of the reading plan that Pastor John uses.  But it's more than just learning stuff.  This helps you to communicate with God.  You'll hear Him, and He will hear you..

MONDAY 3/6/2017

Read: Mark 12:35-44, 2 Cor 10, Psa 105, 1 Sam 24-25

Mark 12:42-44 (GW) 42  A poor widow dropped in two small coins, worth less than a cent. 43  He called his disciples and said to them, “I can guarantee this truth: This poor widow has given more than all the others. 44  All of them have given what they could spare. But she, in her poverty, has given everything she had to live on.”

PRAYER: I could give way more than I do.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (GW) 3  Of course we are human, but we don't fight like humans. 4  The weapons we use in our fight are not made by humans. Rather, they are powerful weapons from God. With them we destroy people's defenses, that is, their arguments 5  and all their intellectual arrogance that oppose the knowledge of God. We take every thought captive so that it is obedient to Christ.

PRAYER: I look to YOUR wisdom and word. Help me to not be entangled by clever human argument.

2 Corinthians 10:6 (GW) 6  We are ready to punish every act of disobedience when you have become completely obedient.

PRAYER: Help us to not be so undisciplined.

2 Corinthians 10:17 (GW) 17  “Whoever brags should brag about what the Lord has done.”

PRAYER: Got it!  YOU get the glory, for sure!

Psalm 105:1-4 (GW) 1  Give thanks to the LORD. Call on him. Make known among the nations what he has done. 2  Sing to him. Make music to praise him. Meditate on all the miracles he has performed. 3  Brag about his holy name. Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. 4  Search for the LORD and his strength. Always seek his presence.

PRAYER: I will boast of YOU, talk of YOU, sing to YOU.   And even in the darker moments I will seek after YOU!

1 Samuel 24:6-7 (GW) 6  He said to his men, “It would be unthinkable for me to raise my hand against His Majesty, the LORD'S anointed king, since he is the LORD'S anointed.” 7  So David stopped his men by saying this to them and didn't let them attack Saul. Saul left the cave and went out onto the road.

PRAYER: Help us all to speak respectfully of our elders and leaders (even those we don’t agree with).

1 Samuel 24:15 (GW) 15  So the LORD must be the judge. He will decide between you and me. He will watch and take my side in {this} matter and set me free from you.”

PRAYER: I trust YOU to judge things.  And I leave it with YOU.

1 Samuel 25:41 (GW) 41  She bowed down with her face touching the ground. “I am ready to serve,” she said. “I am ready to wash the feet of my master's servants.”

NOTE: Abigail aggressively did the right thing though her husband remained vehemently opposed.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to do the right thing, regardless of the cost.

DEVOTION: God is blessed by poor widows, poor speakers, and any poor souls who seek His strength and wisdom.

Tuesday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

TUESDAY 3/7/2017

Read: Mark 13:1-13, 2 Cor 11:1-15, Psa 106:1-23, 1 Sam 26-28

Mark 13:10 (GW) 10  But first, the Good News must be spread to all nations.

NOTE: Befor the end comes, every nation will have heard the Good News.

PRAYER: Lord, may our church be part of the movement to spread YOUR Good News to all nations.

Mark 13:11 (GW) 11  When they take you away to hand you over to the authorities, don't worry ahead of time about what you will say. Instead, say whatever is given to you to say when the time comes. Indeed, you are not the one who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit will.

PRAYER: For when I get nervous about witnessing just remind me of YOUR Holy Spirit’s presence.  With YOUR help, I can do this!

Mark 13:12-13 (GW) 12  “Brother will hand over brother to death; a father will hand over his child. Children will rebel against their parents and kill them. 13  Everyone will hate you because you are committed to me. But the person who endures to the end will be saved.

PRAYER: I man not be liked but at least I’m faithful.

2 Corinthians 11:3 (GW) 3  However, I'm afraid that as the snake deceived Eve by its tricks, so your minds may somehow be lured away from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

PRAYER: Help us to keep each other on track and in line with YOUR will.

2 Corinthians 11:14 (GW) 14  And no wonder, even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

PRAYER: Grant me wisdom to know and recognize the Devils ploys.

Psalm 106:1 (GW) 1  Hallelujah! Give thanks to the LORD because he is good, because his mercy endures forever.

PRAYER: I appreciate YOUR new mercies every morning, and YOUR goodness all day.

Psalm 106:12-13 (GW) 12  Then our ancestors believed what he said. They sang his praise. 13  They quickly forgot what he did. They did not wait for his advice.

PRAYER: May our church use Sundays as a launch pad for continuous praise and obedience.

Psalm 106:20-21 (GW) 20  They traded their glorious God for the statue of a bull that eats grass. 21  They forgot God, their savior, the one who did spectacular things in Egypt,

PRAYER: We do that a lot don’t we? Trading the glorious for a lot of “bull”.  Forgive me, forgive us.

1 Samuel 26:11,25 (GW) 11  It would be unthinkable for me to attack the LORD'S anointed king. But please take that spear near his head and that jar of water, and let's go.” … 25  Then Saul said, “Blessed are you, my servant David. You will accomplish many things and certainly will succeed.” So David went his way, while Saul returned home.

PRAYER: I will respect my authorities, civil and religious, young and old, democrat or republican, Steelers fans or Bengals.  I will bless them with the hopes that one day they would bless me.

1 Samuel 28:6-7 (GW) 6  He prayed to the LORD, but the LORD didn't answer him through dreams, the Urim, or prophets. 7  Saul told his officers, “Find me a woman who conjures up the dead. Then I'll go to her and ask for her services.” His officers told him, “There is a woman at Endor who conjures up the dead.”

PRAYER: I don’t like when I can’t hear YOUR voice, but I know better than to have a séance or check my horoscope.  I’ll wait for YOUR reply.

DEVOTION: Jesus followers show respect to all authorities, but are not necessarily granted respect.  We show it anyway with the hopes our words and our lives will reach the unsaved masses still out there.

Wednesday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

WEDNESDAY 3/8/2017

Read: Mark 13:14-31, 2 Cor 11:16-33, Psa 106:24-48, 1 Sam 29-31

Mark 13:20 (GW) 20  If the Lord does not reduce that time, no one will be saved. But those days will be reduced because of those whom God has chosen.

PRAYER: It’s going to be bad isn’t it?!!!  Help me to reach as many as I can, for YOU,  before that day comes.

Mark 13:22,28 (GW) 22  False messiahs and false prophets will appear. They will work miraculous signs and do wonderful things to deceive, if possible, those whom God has chosen…. 28  “Learn from the story of the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and it sprouts leaves, you know summer is near….

PRAYER: With YOUR Word in me – I hope to remain alert to things that are not of YOU.

Mark 13:31 (GW) 31  The earth and the heavens will disappear, but my words will never disappear.

QUOTE:

2 Corinthians 11:23,27-28,30 (GW) 23  Are they Christ's servants? It's insane to say it, but I'm a far better one. I've done much more work, been in prison many more times, been beaten more severely, and have faced death more often…. 27  Because I've had to work so hard, I've often gone without sleep, been hungry and thirsty, and gone without food and without proper clothes during cold weather. 28  Besides these external matters, I have the daily pressure of my anxiety about all the churches…. 30  If I must brag, I will brag about the things that show how weak I am.

PRAYER: I’ve gotta quit complaining.  I am blessed even and especially in my moments of weakness.  May YOU continue to be the strongest part of me.

Psalm 106:24-25 (GW) 24  They refused {to enter} the pleasant land. They did not believe what he said. 25  They complained in their tents. They did not obey the LORD.

PRAYER: Forgive us for our foolish and faithless moments.  I put my trust in YOU today.

Psalm 106:43-45 (GW) 43  He rescued them many times, but they continued to plot rebellion against him and to sink deeper because of their sin. 44  He saw that they were suffering when he heard their cry for help. 45  He remembered his promise to them. In keeping with his rich mercy, he changed his plans.

PRAYER: How amazingly patience and merciful YOU are to us.  Thank YOU, Lord!

1 Samuel 29:6 (GW) 6  Then Achish called David and told him, “I solemnly swear, as the LORD lives, you are a dependable man. I consider your campaigning with me a good thing, because I've never found anything wrong with you from the day you came to me until now. But the rulers don't approve of you.

PRAYER: Wow, may people find me as reliable and good.  May YOU get the glory for my good behavior.

1 Samuel 30:6 (GW) 6  David was in great distress because the people in their bitterness said he should be stoned. (They were thinking of their sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.)

PRAYER: Help me to not let people’s grief, anger, nor fear get me down.  I look to YOU for strength and encouragement so that I might continue to love them and serve them (just like Davey).

DEVOTION: Christians are not exempt from bad days and injustice.  We remain centered in Christ and our actions and expression bring Him honor.

Thursday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

THURSDAY 3/9/2017

Read: Mark 13:32-37, 2 Cor 12:1-10, Psa 107, 2Sam 1-2

Mark 13: 36-37 (GW) 36  Make sure he doesn't come suddenly and find you asleep. 37  I'm telling everyone what I'm telling you: ‘Be alert!'”.

PRAYER: I’m reading up and ready.

2 Corinthians 12: 7-8 (GW) 7  …. Therefore, to keep me from becoming conceited, I am forced to deal with a recurring problem. That problem, Satan's messenger, torments me to keep me from being conceited. 8  I begged the Lord three times to take it away from me.

PRAYER: So some stuff I have to endure is for my good?!!! OK!  I’ll be patient.

2 Corinthians 12:9 (GW) 9  But he told me: “My kindness is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So I will brag even more about my weaknesses in order that Christ's power will live in me.

PRAYER: That is for sure!  Thank YOU for YOUR power in little teeny me.

2 Corinthians 12:10 (GW) 10  Therefore, I accept weakness, mistreatment, hardship, persecution, and difficulties suffered for Christ. It's clear that when I'm weak, I'm strong.

PRAYER: Right, no more complaining.  I’ve got YOU!

Psalm 107:5-6 (GW) 5  They were hungry and thirsty. They began to lose hope. 6  In their distress they cried out to the LORD. He rescued them from their troubles.

PRAYER: As bad as it could get, I know that I can count on YOU.

Psalm 107:12-14 (GW) 12  So he humbled them with hard work. They fell down, but no one was there to help them. 13  In their distress they cried out to the LORD. He saved them from their troubles. 14  He brought them out of the dark, out of death's shadow. He broke apart their chains.

PRAYER: I will be patient, I will wait for YOU and the real freedom YOU bring.

Psalm 107:23-30 (GW) 23  Those who sail on the sea in ships, who do business on the high seas, 24  have seen what the LORD can do, the miracles he performed in the depths of the sea. 25  He spoke, and a storm began to blow, and it made the waves rise high. 26  The sailors aboard ship rose toward the sky. They plunged into the depths. Their courage melted in {the face of} disaster. 27  They reeled and staggered like drunks, and all their skills as sailors became useless. 28  In their distress they cried out to the LORD. He led them from their troubles. 29  He made the storm calm down, and the waves became still. 30  The sailors were glad that the storm was quiet. He guided them to the harbor they had longed for.

PRAYER: Jesus, still my troubled waters.  YOU who even the wind and waves obey, I submit to.  I will keep my eyes on YOU.

Psalm 107:38-39 (GW) 38  He blesses them, and their numbers multiply, and he does not allow a shortage of cattle. 39  They became few in number and were humiliated because of oppression, disaster, and sorrow.

PRAYER: For all the lean times the church has experienced, I know that we will grow again.  Guide us to those we are to build up into the YOUR Kingdom.

2 Samuel 1:14-15 (GW) 14  David asked, “Why weren't you afraid to take it upon yourself to destroy the LORD'S anointed king?” 15  Then David called one of {his} young men and told him, “Come here and attack him.” David's young man executed him

PRAYER: Some of these stories are hard for me to understand.  But I do understand that I am to always respect the authorities, whoever they are.

2 Samuel 1:25 (GW) 25  See how the mighty have fallen in battle!

QUOTE:

2 Samuel 2:26 (GW) 26  Then Abner called to Joab, “Should this slaughter go on forever? Don't you know this will end in bitterness? How long will it be before you will call off your troops from chasing their relatives?”

PRAYER: Again, some of these stories are hard to read.  But I recognize the foolishness of internal fighting.  Nobody wins.  Make the church one in YOU.

DEVOTION: the real believer may have lean days, bad days, and hard days, but they seek the LORD and endure

Friday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

FRIDAY 3/10/2017

Read: Mark 14:1-11, 2 Cor 12:11-21, Psa 108, 2Sam 3-4

Mark 14:7-8 (GW) 7  You will always have the poor with you and can help them whenever you want. But you will not always have me with you. 8  She did what she could. She came to pour perfume on my body before it is placed in a tomb.

PRAYER: Sometimes I mistakenly place ministry above YOU.  Oops!  YOU first then the ministry and service.

2 Corinthians 12:19 (GW) 19  … We speak as Christ's people in God's sight. Everything we do, dear friends, is for your benefit.

PRAYER: May everything, (yep, all) be for other people’s benefit and YOUR honor

2 Corinthians 12:20-21 (GW) 20  I'm afraid that I may come and find you different from what I want you to be, and that you may find me different from what you want me to be. I'm afraid that there may be rivalry, jealousy, hot tempers, selfish ambition, slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorderly conduct. 21  I'm afraid that when I come to you again, my God may humble me. I may have to grieve over many who formerly led sinful lives and have not changed the way they think and act about the perversion, sexual sins, and promiscuity in which they have been involved.

PRAYER: May the church mature and show sexual, spiritual, and emotional health and maturity.

Psalm 108:1 (GW) 1  My heart is confident, O God. I want to sing and make music even with my soul. 3  I want to give thanks to you among the people, O LORD. I want to make music to praise you among the nations

PRAYER: I am sure, and now I want to be loud about my faith in YOU.

Psalm 108:13 (GW) 13  With God we will display great strength. He will trample our enemies.

PRAYER: I appreciate YOUR presence and power in my life. Because I need YOU.

2 Samuel 3:13,27 (GW) 13  “Good!” David answered. “I'll make an agreement with you. But there's one condition: You can't come to see me unless you bring Michal, Saul's daughter, when you come.” …27  When Abner returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gateway as if to talk to him privately. There he stabbed Abner in the belly. Abner died because he spilled the blood of Joab's brother Asahel.

2 Samuel 4:7,12 (GW) 7  (They had come into the house while Ishbosheth was sleeping on his bed in his bedroom. They stabbed him, killed him, and cut off his head.) They took his head and traveled all night along the road to the plains. … 12  So David gave an order to his young men, who executed Rechab and Baanah, cut off their hands and feet, and hung their dead bodies by the pond in Hebron. Then they took Ishbosheth's head and buried it in Abner's tomb in Hebron.

NOTE: Sometimes the OT is hard to read.  Injustice, murder, and revenge that just don’t seem very fair.  So even the best of men make poor choices (even if it’s for what appears to be a good reason).

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be wise to YOUR Word and will this day and every day.

DEVOTION: Apparently good people do bad things from time to time. Jesus followers need to keep returning to God’s mercy and direction.
