PRAYER: Help me to reach those “many” people who have yet to taste the power of YOUR body and blood.

Mark 14:29-30 (GW) 29  Peter said to him, “Even if everyone else abandons you, I won't.” 30  Jesus said to Peter, “I can guarantee this truth: Tonight, before a rooster crows twice, you will say three times that you don't know me.”

PRAYER: Thank YOU for Peter.  If you can use him as YOU did, then  I believe there is hope for me.

2 Corinthians 13:5 (GW) 5  Examine yourselves to see whether you are still in the Christian faith. Test yourselves! Don't you recognize that you are people in whom Jesus Christ lives? Could it be that you're failing the test?

NOTE: from time to time we need to make sure we haven’t strayed from God’s path, and lured away by clever talk.

PRAYER: Lord, I’ll keep my eyes on YOUR Word.

2 Corinthians 13:11 (GW) 11  …e. Make sure that you improve. Accept my encouragement. Share the same attitude and live in peace. The God of love and peace will be with you.

Psalm 109:24 (GW) 24  My knees give way because I have been fasting. My body has become lean, without any fat.

PRAYER: Don’t I wish?!!!

Psalm 109:28,30 (GW) 28  They may curse, but you will bless. Let those who attack me be ashamed, but let me rejoice. 30  With my mouth I will give many thanks to the LORD. I will praise him among many people,

PRAYER: My mouth will declare praises and blessings not grumblings and regrets.

2 Samuel 6:6-7 (GW) 6  But when they came to Nacon's threshing floor, the oxen stumbled. So Uzzah reached out for the ark of God and grabbed it. 7  The LORD became angry with Uzzah, so God killed him there for his lack of respect. He died beside the ark of God.

NOTE: Another odd story, but God just doesn’t need our help sometimes.

PRAYER: Lord, Forgive me the times I think I’m doing YOU a favor.  I am YOUR servant not YOUR savior.  You however and amazingly both servant and savior.  Thank YOU!!!

2 Samuel 6:11 (GW) 11  The ark of the LORD stayed at the home of Obed Edom from Gath for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed Edom and his whole family.

NOTE: So the container of God’s food and written word blesses the home where it dwells.

PRAYER: Lord, may every household open and enjoy the daily spiritual manna of YOUR Word.

2 Samuel 6:14,16,21-22 (GW) 14  Wearing a linen ephod, David danced in the LORD'S presence with all his might….  16  When the ark of the LORD came to the City of David, Saul's daughter Michal looked out of a window and saw King David leaping and dancing in the LORD'S presence, so she despised him. … 21  David answered Michal, “{I didn't dance in front of the slave girls but} in front of the LORD. …. I will celebrate in the LORD'S presence, 22  and I will degrade myself even more than this. Even if I am humiliated in your eyes, I will be honored by these slave girls you speak about.”

PRAYER: May we worship YOU with reckless abandon.  YOU deserve so much more from us.

2 Samuel 7:5-7,11 (GW) 5  “Say to my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD says: Are you the one who will build me a house to live in? 6  I haven't lived in a house from the day I took Israel out of Egypt to this day. Instead, I moved around in a tent, the tent {of meeting}. 7  In all the places I've moved with all the Israelites, did I ever ask any of the judges of Israel whom I ordered to be shepherds of my people Israel why they didn't build me a house of cedar?'… 11  ever since I appointed judges to rule my people Israel. So I will give you peace with all your enemies. I, the LORD, tell you that I will make a house for you.

PRAYER: I know that our church building doesn’t contain YOU.  But it is does represent YOU.  May our facilities continue to bring YOU honor.

2 Samuel 7:29 (GW) 29  Now, please bless my house so that it may continue in your presence forever. Indeed, you, Almighty LORD, have promised it. With your blessing my house will be blessed forever.”

PRAYER: Bless my house too, Lord.  May YOU be honored in our home.

DEVOTION: Jesus followers are blessed in God’s house, in God’s Word, and in sweet communion with each other.

TUESDAY 3/14/2017

Read: Mark 14:32-42, Gal 1, Psa 110, 2Sam 8-10

Mark 14:36 (GW) 36  He said, “Abba! Father! You can do anything. Take this cup {of suffering} away from me. But let your will be done rather than mine.”

PRAYER: I really appreciate not only the sacrifice but also the anguish YOU were willing to endure for me (us).  Thank YOU!!!

Mark 14:37-38 (GW) 37  He went back and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Couldn't you stay awake for one hour? 38  Stay awake, and pray that you won't be tempted. You want to do what's right, but you're weak.”

PRAYER: Help our church, help me to stay awake and pray more.

Galatians 1:4 (GW) 4  In order to free us from this present evil world, Christ took the punishment for our sins, because that was what our God and Father wanted.

PRAYER: And I am very grateful.

Galatians 1:10 (GW) 10  Am I saying this now to win the approval of people or God? Am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be Christ's servant.

PRAYER: I hope to bless people, but I serve YOU first, Lord.

Galatians 1:16 (GW) 16  …. He did this so that I would tell people who are not Jewish that his Son is the Good News. ….

PRAYER: Help me to find unbelievers and share YOU with them. Open my eyes to see those witnessing opportunities.

Psalm 110:3 (GW) 3  Your people will volunteer when you call up your army. Your young people will come to you in holy splendor like dew in the early morning.

PRAYER: May the living church, YOUR royal bride, arise with strength and “can-do” spirit.  May the young be drawn to YOUR light.

2 Samuel 8:6,14 (GW) 6  …. Everywhere David went, the LORD gave him victories. … 14  …. Everywhere David went, the LORD gave him victories.

PRAYER: That’s just kinda what YOU do, isn’t it?!!!

2 Samuel 8:15 (GW) 15  So David ruled all Israel. He did what was fair and right for all his people.

PRAYER: May I do what is right and fair for YOUR honor and glory.

DEVOTION: Jesus certainly deserves better attention that we seem willing to give Him.  Yet He remains gracious, merciful, and more than fair.

WEDNESDAY 3/15/2017

Read: Mark 14:43-52, Gal 2, Psa 111, 2Sam 11-12

Mark 14:50 (GW) 50  Then all the disciples abandoned him and ran away.

PRAYER: I don’t want to be like that.  I’d like to believe that I’d stay.  But either way, I’m grateful that YOU are faithful always.

Galatians 2:11-12 (GW) 11  When Cephas came to Antioch, I had to openly oppose him because he was completely wrong. 12  He ate with people who were not Jewish until some men James had sent {from Jerusalem} arrived. Then Cephas drew back and would not associate with people who were not Jewish. He was afraid of those who insisted that circumcision was necessary.

NOTE: Paul is talking about Peter, the Rock. So even us leaders need correcting sometimes.  Accountability top to bottom and vice versa.

PRAYER: Lord, help us to love our leaders enough to correct them when necessary.

Galatians 2:16 (GW) 16  Yet, we know that people don't receive God's approval because of their own efforts to live according to a set of standards, but only by believing in Jesus Christ. So we also believed in Jesus Christ in order to receive God's approval by faith in Christ and not because of our own efforts. People won't receive God's approval because of their own efforts to live according to a set of standards.

PRAYER: I’m not abandoning any standards, but I realize that “works” are merely evidence of the more important “faith”

Galatians 2:19-20 (GW) 19  When I tried to obey the law's standards, those laws killed me. As a result, I live in a relationship with God. I have been crucified with Christ. 20  I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live I live by believing in God's Son, who loved me and took the punishment for my sins.

PRAYER: I surrender.  I live for YOU.  And I really do appreciate all YOU’ve done for me.

Psalm 111:4 (GW) 4  He has made his miracles unforgettable. The LORD is merciful and compassionate.

PRAYER: YOU do the big things and the little things.  All so very important to us.

Psalm 111:10 (GW) 10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. Good sense is shown by everyone who follows {God's guiding principles}. His praise continues forever.

PRAYER: Out of respect for YOUR authority, I will read and obey whatever I get from YOUR Word.

2 Samuel 12:8-9 (GW) 8  I gave you your master Saul's house and his wives. I gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if this weren't enough, I would have given you even more. 9  Why did you despise my word by doing what I considered evil? You had Uriah the Hittite killed in battle. You took his wife as your wife. You used the Ammonites to kill him.

PRAYER: What is wrong with me, that I can’t be satisfied with all the blessings YOU’ve given to me?!  Forgive me.  May I learn to be content at all times.

2 Samuel 12:13 (GW) 13  Then David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the LORD.” Nathan replied, “The LORD has taken away your sin; you will not die.

PRAYER: I confess my sin to YOU, Lord.

2 Samuel 12:20,22-23 (GW) 20  So David got up from the ground, bathed, anointed himself, and changed his clothes. He went into the LORD'S house and worshiped. Then he went home and asked for food. They placed food in front of him, and he ate. … 22  David answered, “As long as the child was alive, I fasted and cried. I thought, ‘Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let the child live.' 23  But why should I fast now that he's dead? Can I bring him back? {Someday} I'll go to him, but he won't come back to me.”

PRAYER: Wow, David may have made some big mistakes but he really was a man of faith.  I desire to be a person of great faith also.

DEVOTION: no believer is perfect, but they are faithful and full of God’s Holy presence. So we shine a little brighter than the average person.

THURSDAY 3/16/2017

Read: Mark 14:53-65, Gal 3:1-14, Psa 112, 2Sam 13

Mark 14:61-62 (GW) 61  But he was silent. The chief priest asked him again, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?” 62  Jesus answered, “Yes, I am, and you will see the Son of Man in the highest position in heaven. He will be coming with the clouds of heaven.”

NOTE: Jesus claims divinity here with the clever “I am” (God’s very name).

PRAYER: Jesus, YOU are the great I AM.  I claim YOU as my messiah. We worship YOU as our Savior.

Galatians 3:3,10 (GW) 3  Are you that stupid? Did you begin in a spiritual way only to end up doing things in a human way?... 10  Certainly, there is a curse on all who rely on their own efforts

PRAYER: How can I so easily switch from faith to works and then hold that over other people’s heads.  I am saved by grace, and so are they.

Galatians 3:13 (GW) 13  Christ paid the price to free us from the curse that God's laws bring by becoming cursed instead of us. Scripture says, “Everyone who is hung on a tree is cursed.”

PRAYER: Thank YOU for such an expensive remedy to my (our) sin problem

Psalm 112:1 (GW) 1  Hallelujah! Blessed is the person who fears the LORD and is happy to obey his commands.

PRAYER: I am ready for YOUR Word.

Psalm 112:4 (GW) 4  Light will shine in the dark for a decent person. He is merciful, compassionate, and fair.

PRAYER: Help me to reflect YOUR integrity, grace, love, and sense of justice.

Psalm 112:5 (GW) 5  All goes well for the person who is generous and lends willingly. He earns an honest living.

PRAYER: I could stand to be a little less greedy and selfish.

2 Samuel 13:39 (GW) 39  King David began to long for Absalom once people had consoled him over Amnon's death.

NOTE: David still loves the son who killed his favored son and raped his daughter.  That’s not wrong, but you gotta wonder about David’s parenting skills.  Warrior skills = GREAT, parenting?!!!

PRAYER: Lord, help me to be wise in all my relationships.

DEVOTION: Believers blow it from time to time. But Jesus mercy covers all sins.  All of them! So confess and move on.

FRIDAY 3/17/2017

Read: Mark 14:66-72, Gal 3:15-29, Psa 113, 2Sam 14-15

Mark 14:67,71-72 (GW) 67  saw Peter warming himself. … 71  Then Peter began to curse and swear with an oath, “I don't know this man you're talking about!” 72  Just then a rooster crowed a second time. Peter remembered that Jesus said to him, “Before a rooster crows twice, you will say three times that you don't know me.” Then Peter began to cry very hard.

PRAYER: Like Peter, I have those terrible moments where I disobey YOU and disappoint myself.  Thank YOU for mercies that are new every morning.

Galatians 3:19 (GW) 19  What, then, is the purpose of the laws given to Moses? They were added to identify what wrongdoing is. Moses' laws did this until the descendant to whom the promise was given came. …..

PRAYER: I appreciate the laws, I love the grace.

Galatians 3:22 (GW) 22  But Scripture states that the whole world is controlled by the power of sin. Therefore, a promise based on faith in Jesus Christ could be given to those who believe.

PRAYER: I do need YOU, and I certain put my faith in YOU, Jesus.

Galatians 3:26 (GW) 26  You are all God's children by believing in Christ Jesus.

PRAYER: easy! Yet I hope to line up my life in a way that it agrees with my faith in YOU.

Galatians 3:28 (GW) 28  There are neither Jews nor Greeks, slaves nor free people, males nor females. You are all the same in Christ Jesus.

PRAYER: Help me to see everyone with the eyes of love that YOU have for them.  And clean out whatever prejudices that might be lingering around in me.

Psalm 113:5-9 (GW) 5  Who is like the LORD our God? He is seated on his high throne. 6  He bends down to look at heaven and earth. 7  He lifts the poor from the dust. He lifts the needy from a garbage heap. 8  He seats them with influential people, with the influential leaders of his people. 9  He makes a woman who is in a childless home a joyful mother. Hallelujah!

PRAYER: And YOU have lifted me up.  May I do the same for others.

2 Samuel 14:33 (GW) 33  …. The king then called for Absalom, ….

NOTE: Joab manipulates the King, Absalom manipulates Joab.  Lot’s of sneaky stuff.  These are not healthy relationships.

PRAYER: May I be loving enough to be forthright and up front with people.

2 Samuel 15:1-2,4,6,12 (GW) 1  Soon after this, Absalom acquired a chariot, horses, and 50 men to run ahead of him. 2  Absalom used to get up early and stand by the road leading to the city gate., …4  He would add, “I wish someone would make me judge in the land. Then anyone who had a case to be tried could come to me, and I would make sure that he got justice.”… 6  …. So Absalom stole the hearts of the people of Israel. … 12  …. Meanwhile, the conspiracy grew stronger, and the number of people siding with Absalom kept getting larger.

PRAYER: Not popularity nor smooth talkers nor good lookers shall deter me from YOUR Word and Will.

DEVOTION: Real believers will encounter counterfeit believers from time to time.  The Word will guide them through each puzzle.
