MONDAY 3/20/2017 (05-21) #1911

Read: Mark 15:1-15, Gal 4:1-20, Psa 114, 2Sam 16-17

Mark 15:15 (GW) 15  Pilate wanted to satisfy the people, so he freed Barabbas for them. But he had Jesus whipped and handed over to be crucified.

PRAYER: Forgive me for the times I have turned my back on YOU in front of my non-Christian associates.

Galatians 4:5-7 (GW) 5  God sent him to pay for the freedom of those who were controlled by these laws so that we would be adopted as his children. 6  Because you are God's children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into us to call out, “Abba! Father!” 7  So you are no longer slaves but God's children. Since you are God's children, God has also made you heirs.

PRAYER: What an amazing privilege and such an expensive gift.  Thank YOU!

Galatians 4:9 (GW) 9  But now you know God, or rather, God knows you. So how can you turn back again to the powerless and bankrupt principles of this world? Why do you want to become their slaves all over again?

PRAYER: What is it in me that keeps returning to old and bad ways?!!! Help me Lord!

Psalm 114:7-8 (GW) 7  Earth, tremble in the presence of the Lord, …. 8  He turns a rock into a pool filled with water and turns flint into a spring flowing with water.

PRAYER: Even in the rough times YOU remain my Lord and provider.

2 Samuel 16:12 (GW) 12  Maybe the LORD will see my misery and turn his curse into a blessing for me today.”

PRAYER: I can have a better attitude towards those who curse me, because I do trust YOU, Lord.  You are the great miracle producing God who turns things around for the good of those who love You.

2 Samuel 17:10 (GW) 10  Even the bravest man with a heart like a lion would lose his courage, because all Israel knows that your father is a warrior and the men with him are brave.

PRAYER: I choose to be a courageous warrior for my faith.

THOT: “fans” may fall away, but “followers” remain firm and consistent in the faith.

TUESDAY 3/21/2017

Read: Mark 15:16-32, Gal 4:21-31, Psa 115, 2Sam 18-19

Mark 15:19 (GW) 19  They kept hitting him on the head with a stick, spitting on him, and kneeling in front of him with false humility.

PRAYER: Forgive me for the weekend worship services where it’s more about my needs and wants than YOUR honor and glory.

Mark 15:31 (GW) 31  The chief priests and the scribes made fun of him among themselves in the same way. They said, “He saved others, but he can't save himself.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for such a huge sacrifice.

Galatians 4:27 (GW) 27  Scripture says: “Rejoice, women who cannot get pregnant, who cannot give birth to any children! Break into shouting, those who feel no pains of childbirth! Because the deserted woman will have more children than the woman who has a husband.”

PRAYER: I have worried about our church and so many other churches that just can’t seem to grow sometimes.  But the church is YOUR body, and I believe that the church will have many new children.

Psalm 115:8-9 (GW) 8  Those who make idols end up like them. So does everyone who trusts them. 9  Israel, trust the LORD. He is your helper and your shield.

PRAYER: I put my trust in YOU, no stock markets, nor government, nor my own hands.  YOU, I trust YOU!!!

Psalm 115:17 (GW) 17  Those who are dead do not praise the LORD, nor do those who go into the silence {of the grave}.

PRAYER: May this coming weekend we all break out of our comas and give YOU such obvious glory and honor that then neighbors have to report us for “disturbing the peace”.

2 Samuel 18:33 (GW) 33  The king was shaken {by the news}. He went to the room above the gate and cried. “My son Absalom!” he said as he went. “My son, my son Absalom! I wish I had died in your place! Absalom, my son, my son!”

NOTE: David is mourning for a son that violated his wives and would have him dead.

PRAYER: Lord, may I love even my enemies the way YOU love me.

2 Samuel 19:43 (GW) 43  … But the people of Judah spoke {even} more harshly than the people of Israel.

NOTE: Sometimes unity is broken in the church.  One day there will be absolute harmony, but right now we have to work on being “one”.

PRAYER: Lord, YOU prayed that we would be as one.  I do to.  May I be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

THOT: the church has its ups and downs because we are not in heaven yet.  But the sincere Jesus follower will always re-correct course and unify with the brethren and honor God with exuberant praise.

NOTE: Just read all of Psalm 22.

PRAYER: Lord, thank YOU for being my Savior and victorious King.

Mark 15:38 (GW) 38  The curtain in the temple was split in two from top to bottom.

PRAYER: It’s like YOU said, “enough…come on in”.  Thank YOU for being so accessible to us mere human beings.

Galatians 5:4,6 (GW) 4  Those of you who try to earn God's approval by obeying his laws have been cut off from Christ. You have fallen out of God's favor. … 6  As far as our relationship to Christ Jesus is concerned, it doesn't matter whether we are circumcised or not. But what matters is a faith that expresses itself through love.

PRAYER: I will by faith receive YOUR favor and may my actions be the byproduct of YOUR love flowing through me.

Psalm 116:10 (GW) 10  I kept my faith even when I said, “I am suffering terribly.”

PRAYER: I won’t quit!   I put my trust in YOU.

Psalm 116:12 (GW) 12  How can I repay the LORD for all the good that he has done for me?

Psalm 116:16 (GW) 16  O LORD, I am indeed your servant. I am your servant, the son of your female servant. You have freed me from my chains.

2 Samuel 21:21-22 (GW) 21  When he challenged Israel, Jonathan, son of David's brother Shimei, killed him. 22  These four were descendants of Haraphah from Gath, and David and his men killed them.

THURSDAY 3/23/2017

Read: Mark 15:42-47, Gal 5:13-26, Psa 117, 2Sam 22

Mark 15:43 (GW) 43  when Joseph arrived. He was from the city of Arimathea and was an important member of the Jewish council. He, too, was waiting for the kingdom of God. Joseph boldly went to Pilate's quarters to ask for the body of Jesus.

PRAYER: As a Kingdom promoter, may I at least show YOU respect even though I don’t know what YOU are doing. I do trust and revere YOU!

Galatians 5:13 (GW) 13  You were indeed called to be free, brothers and sisters. Don't turn this freedom into an excuse for your corrupt nature to express itself. Rather, serve each other through love.

PRAYER: I will serve and be selfish.

Galatians 5:14 (GW) 14  All of Moses' Teachings are summarized in a single statement, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.”

PRAYER: Love! Love! Love. Got it!

Galatians 5:15 (GW) 15  But if you criticize and attack each other, be careful that you don't destroy each other.

PRAYER: Help us to correct and challenge in love, otherwise help us to remain silent.

Galatians 5:19-24 (GW) 19  Now, the effects of the corrupt nature are obvious: illicit sex, perversion, promiscuity, 20  idolatry, drug use, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, angry outbursts, selfish ambition, conflict, factions, 21  envy, drunkenness, wild partying, and similar things. I've told you in the past and I'm telling you again that people who do these kinds of things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22  But the spiritual nature produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23  gentleness, and self-control. There are no laws against things like that. 24  Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their corrupt nature along with its passions and desires.

NOTE: this doesn’t disavow salvation by grace.  It reinforces that grace pervades the life of the believer with much better fruit.

PRAYER: Lord, may my freedoms and choices result in all of the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 117:2 (GW) 2  His mercy toward us is powerful. The LORD'S faithfulness endures forever. Hallelujah!

NOTE: Yes Psalm 117 is the shortest Psalm in the Bible.

PRAYER: Lord, mercy with muscle,  and forever faithfulness – wow!!! Thank YOU!!!

2 Samuel 22:2-3 (GW) 2  He said, The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my Savior, 3  my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, the strength of my salvation, my stronghold, my refuge, and my Savior who saved me from violence.

NOTE: Yes you’ve read this before in Psalm 18.

PRAYER: Lord, thank YOU for stability and strength.

2 Samuel 22:21-22 (GW) 21  The LORD rewarded me because of my righteousness, because my hands are clean. He paid me back 22  because I have kept the ways of the LORD and I have not wickedly turned away from my God,

PRAYER: Thank YOU for my empowered freedom

2 Samuel 22:35,40 (GW) 35  He trains my hands for battle so that my arms can bend an {archer's} bow of bronze. 40  You armed me with strength for battle. You made my opponents bow at my feet.

PRAYER: I am well aware of the spiritual warfare around me.  Train me to win the lost to YOU.

THOT: God is not always clear to see, but His love must always be expressed (and through us).

Mark 16:10-11 (GW) 10  She went and told his friends, who were grieving and crying. 11  They didn't believe her when they heard that he was alive and that she had seen him.

NOTE: Notice the resurrection causes us to share our faith even though it may not be believed.

PRAYER: Lord, I know I might be rejected but you are worth sharing with others.

Mark 16:14-16 (GW) 14  Still later Jesus appeared to the eleven apostles while they were eating. He put them to shame for their unbelief and because they were too stubborn to believe those who had seen him alive. 15  Then Jesus said to them, “So wherever you go in the world, tell everyone the Good News. 16  Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

NOTE: so much for everyone goes to heaven.

PRAYER: Lord, forgive my fear of believes and sharing.  Open my eyes to see witnessing opportunities.

Mark 16:17,20 (GW) 17  “These are the miraculous signs that will accompany believers: They will use the power and authority of my name to force demons out of people. They will speak new languages…. 20  The disciples spread {the Good News} everywhere. The Lord worked with them. He confirmed his word by the miraculous signs that accompanied it.

NOTE: The Good News not only saves us, it cleans us up.  We need to be willing to speak the language of the oddballs around us in order to share these miraculous life transforming truths.

PRAYER: Lord, I will quit excusing myself from sharing my faith.  I want others to share in the life transforming gospel I’ve enjoyed.

Galatians 6:1-2 (GW) 1  Brothers and sisters, if a person gets trapped by wrongdoing, those of you who are spiritual should help that person turn away from doing wrong. Do it in a gentle way. At the same time watch yourself so that you also are not tempted. 2  Help carry each other's burdens. In this way you will follow Christ's teachings.

PRAYER: I’ll keep my eyes pealed in order to help my church family.

Galatians 6:4 (GW) 4  Each of you must examine your own actions. Then you can be proud of your own accomplishments without comparing yourself to others.

PRAYER: I know, motives are every bit as important as what I do.

Galatians 6:7 (GW) 7  Make no mistake about this: You can never make a fool out of God. Whatever you plant is what you'll harvest.

NOTE: this is a natural law and a spiritual law or planting/harvesting.

PRAYER: May my crops be large and good.

Galatians 6:9-10 (GW) 9  We can't allow ourselves to get tired of living the right way. Certainly, each of us will receive {everlasting life} at the proper time, if we don't give up. 10  Whenever we have the opportunity, we have to do what is good for everyone, especially for the family of believers.

PRAYER: I will not quit.  I will love my spiritual family, even though some of them drive me crazy.  And I’ll keep my eyes and heart open to ministry opportunities.

Psalm 118:1 (GW) 1  Give thanks to the LORD because he is good, because his mercy endures forever.

PRAYER: I am blessed that YOUR mercy has no end.

Psalm 118:6,8-9 (GW) 6  The LORD is on my side. I am not afraid. What can mortals do to me? 8  It is better to depend on the LORD than to trust mortals. 9  It is better to depend on the LORD than to trust influential people.

PRAYER: I will not be afraid, YOU and I make a majority anyway.

Psalm 118:13-15 (GW) 13  They pushed hard to make me fall, but the LORD helped me. 14  The LORD is my strength and my song. He is my savior. 15  The sound of joyful singing and victory is heard in the tents of righteous people. The right hand of the LORD displays strength.

PRAYER: That’s my secret, sometimes I just go back home and quietly dwell on who YOU are in my life. The next day, I’m powered back up.

Psalm 118:22 (GW) 22  The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

2 Samuel 24:10 (GW) 10  After David counted the people, his conscience troubled him. David said to the LORD, “I have committed a terrible sin by what I have done. LORD, please forgive me because I have acted very foolishly.”

PRAYER: Forgive us the times we’ve use our small numbers as an excuse or to be fearful. And forgive us the times we’ve use the large numbers to be prideful.  Our victory is not in how many horses we have but it is YOU.  (Isa.31:1)

2 Samuel 24:24 (GW) 24  “No!” the king said to Araunah. “I must buy it from you at a {fair} price. I won't offer the LORD my God burnt sacrifices that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for 1 1/4 pounds of silver.
