Read: Luke 2:1-20, Eph 3:14-21, Psa 119:41-48, 1 Kings 9-10

Luke 2:7 (GW) 7  She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger because there wasn't any room for them in the inn.

PRAYER: Unwelcomed at YOUR birth and rejected at YOUR death, yet YOU remain Lord and Savior.  Thank YOU for YOUR mercy and grace.

Luke 2:14 (GW) 14  “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those who have his good will!”

PRAYER: I choose YOUR will!

Ephesians 3:16 (GW) 16  I'm asking God to give you a gift from the wealth of his glory. I pray that he would give you inner strength and power through his Spirit.

PRAYER: I lift up our church and prayer for YOUR power to surge through us.

Ephesians 3:18 (GW) 18  This way, with all of God's people you will be able to understand how wide, long, high, and deep his love is.

PRAYER: YOUR love is pretty incredible. May take me a while to really comprehend it.

Ephesians 3:20 (GW) 20  Glory belongs to God, whose power is at work in us. By this power he can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.

PRAYER: Why do I ever limit YOU, the God of the possible.

Psalm 119:43,47 (GW) 43  Do not take so much as a single word of truth from my mouth. My hope is based on your regulations. 47  Your commandments, which I love, make me happy.

PRAYER: As difficult as YOUR counsel can be sometimes, I need YOUR Word.

1 Kings 9:4-7 (GW) 4  “If you will be faithful to me as your father David was (with a sincere and upright heart), do everything I command, and keep my laws and rules, 5  then I will establish your royal dynasty over Israel forever as I promised your father David when I said, ‘You will never fail to have an heir on the throne of Israel.' 6  But if you and your descendants dare to turn away from me and do not keep my commands and laws that I gave to you, and follow and serve other gods and worship them, 7  then I will cut Israel out of the land I gave them. I will reject this temple that I declared holy for my name. Israel will be an example and an object of ridicule for all the people of the world.

PRAYER: I choose “A”.  I will be faithful from inside out.  I will read YOUR Word and live YOUR Word.

THOT: God doesn’t mind, in fact, He loves to make known His wisdom and Will to whomever would take it into their hearts and then live it in their lives.

TUESDAY 4/4/2017

Read: Luke 2:21-40, Eph 4:1-16, Psa 119:49-56, 1 Kings 11

Luke 2:32 (GW) 32  He is a light that will reveal {salvation} to the nations and bring glory to your people Israel.”

PRAYER: YOU are my light and my salvation.

Luke 2:34 (GW) 34  Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother, “This child is the reason that many people in Israel will be condemned and many others will be saved. He will be a sign that will expose

NOTE: not everyone goes to heaven because God is a loving God.   In His love He has given us the choice of living with Him or without Him.

PRAYER: Lord, I choose YOU.  Help me to reach the condemned before it is too late.

Luke 2:40 (GW) 40  The child grew and became strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God's favor was with him.

Ephesians 4:1 (GW) 1  I, a prisoner in the Lord, encourage you to live the kind of life which proves that God has called you.

PRAYER: Yes, may my life bring honor to YOU.  May it be clear that I belong to YOU.

Ephesians 4:2-6 (GW) 2  Be humble and gentle in every way. Be patient with each other and lovingly accept each other. 3  Through the peace that ties you together, do your best to maintain the unity that the Spirit gives. 4  There is one body and one Spirit. In the same way you were called to share one hope. 5  There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6  one God and Father of all, who is over everything, through everything, and in everything.

PRAYER: Unity, unity, unity.  I will strive for unity. May the church be ONE!

Ephesians 4:11-13 (GW) 11  He also gave apostles, prophets, missionaries, as well as pastors and teachers as gifts {to his church}. 12  Their purpose is to prepare God's people, to serve, and to build up the body of Christ. 13  This is to continue until all of us are united in our faith and in our knowledge about God's Son, until we become mature, until we measure up to Christ, who is the standard.

PRAYER: I realize that Christianity is a journey of constant growing and maturity.  May our church be loaded with people who serve and build up or people who can help lead us to that.

Ephesians 4:16 (GW) 16  He makes the whole body fit together and unites it through the support of every joint. As each and every part does its job, he makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

PRAYER: Our oneness is evidence of YOUR presence.  Who else can do that with such different people like us. Amazing!!!

Psalm 119:54 (GW) 54  Your laws have become like psalms to me in this place where I am only a foreigner.

PRAYER: I get it, this (earth) is not my home.  Continue to guide me in this foreign place.

1 Kings 11:4 (GW) 4  In his old age, his wives tempted him to follow other gods. He was no longer committed to the LORD his God as his father David had been.

NOTE: this is scary.  The wisest man in the history of the world – doesn’t see the temptation coming nor the futility of anything less than 100% devotion to the Lord.  So maybe faith isn’t just about what’s in your head. Maybe it’s also about what’s in your heart.

PRAYER: Lord, however weak I may be, I surrender my heart and mind to YOU right now.  May YOU reign as commander and chief of my life.

1 Kings 11:38 (GW) 38  If you will do all I command you, follow my ways, and do what I consider right by obeying my laws and commands as my servant David did, then I will be with you. I will build a permanent dynasty for you as I did for David. And I will give you Israel.

NOTE: Here is the constant theme of the OT.  Read my Word, keep my word, do my word. God must always be first.

PRAYER: Lord, thank YOU for making YOURSELF known to me.  I’m reading, and I’ll be doing YOUR Word.

THOT: the true church is directed by God’s Word, united in love, and wholly devoted first and foremost to the Lord God Almighty!

WEDNESDAY 4/5/2017

Read: Luke 2:41-52, Eph 4:17-24, Psa 119:57-64, 1 Kings 12

Luke 2:49-51 (GW) 49  Jesus said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn't you realize that I had to be in my Father's house?” 50  But they didn't understand what he meant. 51  Then he returned with them to Nazareth and was obedient to them. His mother treasured all these things in her heart.

NOTE: The Son of God, claims this connection yet remain obedient to mere humans.  Wow!

PRAYER: Lord, YOU have so much power and wisdom, yet YOU move among us with humility and such love.

Ephesians 4:17 (GW) 17  So I tell you and encourage you in the Lord's name not to live any longer like other people in the world. Their minds are set on worthless things.

PRAYER: Help me to resist the world’s drawing.

Ephesians 4:22-24 (GW) 22  You were taught to change the way you were living. The person you used to be will ruin you through desires that deceive you. 23  However, you were taught to have a new attitude. 24  You were also taught to become a new person created to be like God, truly righteous and holy.

PRAYER: I am a new creation, and I intend to reflect YOU in my life.

Psalm 119:57,59 (GW) 57  You are my inheritance, O LORD. I promised to hold on to your words. 59  I have thought about my life, and I have directed my feet back to your written instructions.

PRAYER: I intend to remain Word directed, but in those moments when I get off track – I hope to turn back to YOU.

1 Kings 12:13-14 (GW) 13  The king answered the people harshly. He ignored the advice the older leaders gave him. 14  He spoke to them as the young men advised. He said, “If my father made your burden heavy, I will add to it. If my father punished you with whips, I will punish you with scorpions.”

PRAYER: Help our church embrace the enthusiasm of our young leaders without sacrificing the wisdom of the elders in the church.

1 Kings 12:28 (GW) 28  After seeking advice, the king made two golden calves. ….”

NOTE: I amazes me how many times religious people willfully do things that are clearly not God’s Will.

PRAYER: Lord, forgive me (us) for the times I’ve (we’ve) justified in my (our) head what YOU’ve condemned in my (our) heart.

THOT: a real Jesus follower is a transformed person who builds up and not tears down.  They fall down but not away. They are in the world but not of the world.

Any tree that doesn't produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into a fire.”

NOTE: this does not mean that you achieve heaven through good works.  But no one in heaven will not have good works.   Grace is not earned it is received.  But grace received bears fruit or it’s not really grace.

PRAYER: Lord, may my life be a reflection of YOUR love and Holy Presence in my life.

Luke 3:11 (GW) 11  He answered them, “Whoever has two shirts should share with the person who doesn't have any. Whoever has food should share it too.”

PRAYER: I will bear the fruit of grace, generosity, and service.

Luke 3:16 (GW) 16  John replied to all of them, “I baptize you with water. But the one who is more powerful than I is coming. I am not worthy to untie his sandal straps. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

PRAYER: Baptize the church with Holy Fire.  May it be clear who empowers our lives.

Ephesians 4:26,31-32 (GW) 26  Be angry without sinning. Don't go to bed angry. … 31  Get rid of your bitterness, hot tempers, anger, loud quarreling, cursing, and hatred. 32  Be kind to each other, sympathetic, forgiving each other as God has forgiven you through Christ.

PRAYER: Smart, help me with this.  I want to be as gracious, patient, and merciful with others as YOU are with me.

Ephesians 4:29 (GW) 29  Don't say anything that would hurt {another person}. Instead, speak only what is good so that you can give help wherever it is needed. That way, what you say will help those who hear you.

PRAYER: Win or lose, up or down, I will praise YOU.  I trust YOU.

1 Kings 13:18 (GW) 18  The old prophet said, “I'm also a prophet, like you. An angel spoke the word of the LORD to me. He said, ‘Bring him home with you so that he may have something to eat and drink.'” (But the old prophet was lying.)

PRAYER: May the people of our church be Word wise and not so easily duped by false prophets nor liars.

1 Kings 14:8-9 (GW) 8  I tore the kingdom away from David's heirs and gave it to you. But you have not been like my servant David. He obeyed my commands and faithfully followed me by doing only what I considered right. 9  You have done more evil things than everyone before you. You made other gods, metal idols, for yourself. You made me furious and turned your back to me.

PRAYER: I choose YOUR Word and Will.

THOT: a real Jesus follower is empowered and bears fruit of righteousness, generosity, and compassion.   They are Word directed and committed.

Ephesians 5:1-2,8,11 (GW) 1  Imitate God, since you are the children he loves. 2  Live in love as Christ also loved us. He gave his life for us as an offering and sacrifice, a soothing aroma to God. … 8  Once you lived in the dark, but now the Lord has filled you with light. Live as children who have light. … 11  Have nothing to do with the useless works that darkness produces. Instead, expose them for what they are.

PRAYER: My eyes will be drawn to good, my words will be uplifting and grateful.

Ephesians 5:16-17,19-20 (GW) 16  Make the most of your opportunities because these are evil days. 17  So don't be foolish, but understand what the Lord wants…. 19  by reciting psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs for your own good. PRAYER: I choose to live a life that will honor YOU.

1 Kings 15:11-12,26 (GW) 11  Asa did what the LORD considered right, as his ancestor David had done. 12  He forced the male temple prostitutes out of the land and got rid of the idols his father had made. … 26  He[Nadab] did what the LORD considered evil, living as his father did, leading Israel into the same sins.

NOTE: the tale of two sons, one follows a bad example. The other rejects his father’s bad example.

PRAYER: Lord, I choose to lead a good example for the church.

1 Kings 16:26 (GW) 26  He[Omri] lived exactly like Jeroboam (Nebat's son). He sinned and led Israel to sin with worthless idols, and the Israelites made the LORD God of Israel furious.

NOTE: these are leaders of the faith not the bad guys. How many of our church leaders support

PRAYER: Lord, I pray for the leaders of the church to remain strong and distant from the trappings of our culture.

THOT: the Jesus follower lives to honor the Lord, and they reject the ways of this world.
