If you use this weekly guide  - you'll cover all of the Bible in just 300 days.   This is sort of a "Cliff Notes" version of the reading plan that Pastor John uses.  But it's more than just learning stuff.  This helps you to communicate with God.  You'll hear Him, and He will hear you..

MONDAY 4/17/2017

Read: Luke 5:12-16, Phil 1:21-30, Psa 119:121-128, 2 Kings 6-7

Luke 5:12-13 (GW) 12   One day Jesus was in a city where there was a man covered with a serious skin disease. When the man saw Jesus, he bowed with his face to the ground. He begged Jesus, “Sir, if you want to, you can make me clean.” 13  Jesus reached out, touched him, and said, “I want to. So be clean!” Immediately, his skin disease went away.

PRAYER: I love that YOU are the “I want to” God in my life.  And by the way, I want to be clean too!

Luke 5:15-16 (GW) 15  The news about Jesus spread even more. Large crowds gathered to hear him and have their diseases cured. 16  But he would go away to places where he could be alone for prayer.

PRAYER: I appreciate this time I have with YOU.  Though I love the crowds and the “success” and feeling like I’m part of something.  It means nothing without YOU.

Philippians 1:21-22 (GW) 21  Christ means everything to me in this life, and when I die I'll have even more. 22  If I continue to live in this life, my work will produce more results. I don't know which I would prefer.

PRAYER: I appreciate YOU in my life.  I am excited about rewards in heaven, but the truth is that it’s pretty satisfying to positive results in the lives of those YOU’ve called me to share with and serve.

Philippians 1:27 (GW) 27  Live as citizens who reflect the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come to see you or whether I stay away, I'll hear all about you. I'll hear that you are firmly united in spirit, united in fighting for the faith that the Good News brings.

PRAYER: May our church boldly share and lovingly reflect the Good News this week.  May us one in our mission to spread YOUR story.

Philippians 1:29 (GW) 29  God has given you the privilege not only to believe in Christ but also to suffer for him.

PRAYER: I am blessed to believe and to be persecuted for my faith.

Psalm 119:125 (GW) 125  I am your servant. Help me understand so that I may come to know your written instructions.

PRAYER: Guide me and direct me through YOUR Living Word.

Psalm 119:128 (GW) 128  I follow the straight paths of your guiding principles. I hate every pathway that leads to lying.

PRAYER: Guide me, direct me, keep me in the truth.

2 Kings 6:1 (GW) 1  The disciples of the prophets said to Elisha, “The place where we're staying is too small for us.

PRAYER: Help us to outgrow our facility, too.

2 Kings 6:6 (GW) 6  The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed Elisha the place, Elisha cut off a piece of wood. He threw it into the water at that place and made the ax head float.

PRAYER: YOU can break whatever natural laws YOU want.  I remain in wonder.

2 Kings 6:15-17 (GW) 15  When the servant of the man of God got up in the morning and went outside, he saw troops, horses, and chariots surrounding the city. Elisha's servant asked, “Master, what should we do?” 16  Elisha answered, “Don't be afraid. We have more forces on our side than they have on theirs.” 17  Then Elisha prayed, “LORD, please open his eyes so that he may see.” The LORD opened the servant's eyes and let him see. The mountain around Elisha was full of fiery horses and chariots.

PRAYER: I cannot see YOUR invisible army, but I believe it’s there. Why do I ever fear or worry.  YOU are always with me.  Amazing!

2 Kings 7:6 (GW) 6  (The LORD had made the Aramean army hear what sounded like chariots, horses, and a large army. The Aramean soldiers said to one another, “The king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings to attack us!”

PRAYER: Why do we ever worry about anything, YOU are amazing!

THOT: God plus one equals a majority.

Tuesday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

TUESDAY 4/18/2017

Read: Luke 5:17-26, Phil 2:1-11, Psa 119:129-136, 2 Kings 8-9

Luke 5:19-20,24 (GW) 19  But they could not find a way to get him into the house because of the crowd. So they went up on the roof. They made an opening in the tiles and let the man down on his stretcher among the people. (They lowered him in front of Jesus.) 20  When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Sir, your sins are forgiven.” … 24  I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, pick up your stretcher, and go home.”

PRAYER: I hope YOU will “see” my faith and hear my faith as I share it this week.

Philippians 2:2-4 (GW) 2  Then fill me with joy by having the same attitude and the same love, living in harmony, and keeping one purpose in mind. 3  Don't act out of selfish ambition or be conceited. Instead, humbly think of others as being better than yourselves. 4  Don't be concerned only about your own interests, but also be concerned about the interests of others.

PRAYER: I will be “other” minded with the hope of remaining united in ministry and purpose.

Philippians 2:5,7 (GW) 5  Have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. … 7  Instead, he emptied himself by taking on the form of a servant, by becoming like other humans, by having a human appearance.

PRAYER: I will serve others, YOU are my example.

Philippians 2:10-11 (GW) 10  so that at the name of Jesus everyone in heaven, on earth, and in the world below will kneel 11  and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

QUOTE:

Psalm 119:130 (GW) 130  Your word is a doorway that lets in light, and it helps gullible people understand.

PRAYER: More light, more better.

Psalm 119:133 (GW) 133  Make my steps secure through your promise, and do not let any sin control me.

PRAYER: Guide me, cleanse me, heal me so that I might be a better reflection of YOU.

2 Kings 9:30,36-37 (GW) 30  When Jehu arrived in Jezreel, Jezebel heard about it. She put on eye shadow, fixed her hair, ….  36  They came back and told him. Jehu said, “The LORD spoke through his servant Elijah from Tishbe. He said, ‘Dogs will eat Jezebel's body inside the walls of Jezreel. 37  Jezebel's corpse will be like manure on the ground ….'”

PRAYER: I can’t really just dress up my sin without it still stinkin’ everywhere.  Help me to live a good and righteous life.

THOT: Joy, persistent faith, unity, servitude, and a righteous lifestyle is evident in the life of a true Jesus follower.

Wednesday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

WEDNESDAY 4/19/2017

Read: Luke 5:27-32, Phil 2:12-18, Psa 119:137-144, 2 Kgs 10-11

Luke 5:28,30 (GW) 28  So Levi got up, left everything, and followed him. … 30  The Pharisees and their scribes complained to Jesus' disciples. They asked, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”

NOTE: So if the Lord lived a selfless life of service, and His disciples all gave up everything to follow – why do Christians today think they are not bound to those standards?  We see ourselves partying with the sinners but not doing selfless acts of devotion?!!

PRAYER: Lord, forgive my selfish inclination.  I want to be like YOU.  I want to be a fully devoted follower.

Luke 5:31-32 (GW) 31  Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don't need a doctor; those who are sick do. 32  I've come to call sinners to change the way they think and act, not to call people who think they have God's approval.”

PRAYER: I am one of the sick that needs YOUR help with improving my thoughts and my actions.

Philippians 2:12 (GW) 12  … continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

NOTE:   the Greek word for ‘Salvation’ also can be translated “health”, which makes more sense. Either way, you cannot be near Jesus without Him having a dramatic effect on YOU (John 15:4-5)

PRAYER: Lord, I intend to grow spiritually stronger in my relationship with YOU.

Philippians 2:14 (GW) 14  Do everything without complaining or arguing.

PRAYER: Everything?!!! OK.  I will be appreciative, complimentary, a team player.

Philippians 2:15-16 (GW) 15  Then you will be blameless and innocent. You will be God's children without any faults among people who are crooked and corrupt. You will shine like stars among them in the world 16  as you hold firmly to the word of life. Then I can brag on the day of Christ that my effort was not wasted and that my work produced results.

PRAYER: May everyone in the church shine for YOU.  May they be in the world but not of the world.

Philippians 2:17 (GW) 17  My life is being poured out as a part of the sacrifice and service {I offer to God} for your faith. Yet, I am filled with joy, and I share that joy with all of you.

PRAYER: I get it.  Giving and serving is really fulfilling.

Psalm 119:141,143-144 (GW) 141  I am unimportant and despised, {yet} I never forget your guiding principles. 143  Trouble and hardship have found me, but your commandments {still} make me happy. 144  Your written instructions are always right. Help me understand {them} so that I will live.

PRAYER: YOUR Word makes my useless small life meaningful and fulfilled.  Teach me, guide me, through YOUR Word.

2 Kings 10:29,31 (GW) 29  But Jehu did not turn away from the sins that Jeroboam (Nebat's son) led Israel to commit—{the worship of} the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan.  31  But Jehu didn't wholeheartedly obey the teachings of the LORD God of Israel. He didn't turn away from the sins that Jeroboam led Israel to commit.

PRAYER: I will not be a half-way devoted follower.  I’m all in.

THOT: Jesus followers are “all in” fully devoted, positive, appreciate, team building, Word guided disciples who live in the world but not like the world.

Thursday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

THURSDAY 4/20/2017

Read: Luke 5:33-39, Phil 2:19-30, Psa 119:145-152, 2 Kgs 12-13

Luke 5:36-38 (GW) 36  He also used these illustrations: “No one tears a piece of cloth from a new coat to patch an old coat. Otherwise, the new cloth will tear the old. Besides, the patch from the new will not match the old. 37  People don't pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the new wine will make the skins burst. The wine will run out, and the skins will be ruined. 38  Rather, new wine is to be poured into fresh skins.

NOTE: You must be “born again”. Jesus didn’t come to renew the Old rituals, He came to establish new and powerful relationships

PRAYER: Lord, I am one of YOUR new creations.

Philippians 2:20-22 (GW) 20  I don't have anyone else like Timothy. He takes a genuine interest in your welfare. 21  Everyone else looks after his own interests, not after those of Jesus Christ. 22  But you know what kind of person Timothy proved to be. Like a father and son we worked hard together to spread the Good News.

PRAYER: We could all stand to be more like Timothy.

Philippians 2:29 (GW) 29  Give him a joyful Christian welcome. Make sure you honor people like Epaphroditus highly.

PRAYER: I appreciate and ask YOU to bless all those Timothy’s and Epaphroditus’s out there doing YOUR work and for YOUR glory.

Psalm 119:147-149 (GW) 147  I got up before dawn, and I cried out for help. My hope is based on your word. 148  My eyes are wide-open throughout the nighttime hours to reflect on your word. 149  In keeping with your mercy, hear my voice. O LORD, give me a new life guided by your regulations.

PRAYER: May YOUR Word guide me, sustain me, and renew me ALL DAY!!!!

2 Kings 12:2-3 (GW) 2  Joash did what the LORD considered right, as long as the priest Jehoiada instructed him. 3  But the illegal places of worship weren't torn down. The people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense at these worship sites.

NOTE: We may not be perfect, but we should be wholly devoted.

PRAYER: Lord, I’m not going to be a part time follower.  I’m all in.

2 Kings 13:2,11 (GW) 2  He did what the LORD considered evil. He continued to commit the sins that Jeroboam (Nebat's son) led Israel to commit. He never gave up committing those sins…. 11  He did what the LORD considered evil and never gave up committing the sins that Jeroboam led Israel to commit. He continued to commit them.

PRAYER: Over and over again there are lots of examples of bad believers.  May the church be filled with YOUR fully devoted followers.

THOT: You cannot be a part time follower.  It’s all or nothing.

Friday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

FRIDAY 4/21/2017

Read: Luke 6:1-16, Phil 3:1-9, Psa 119:153-160, 2 Kings 14-15

Luke 6:5 (GW) 5  Then he added, “The Son of Man has authority over the day of worship.”

PRAYER: YOU ought to have authority that day for sure. Forgive us the times we’ve made weekend worship about what we want.

Luke 6:9 (GW) 9  Then Jesus said to them, “I ask you—what is the right thing to do on a day of worship: to do good or evil, to give a person his health or to destroy it?”

PRAYER: Forgive us also the times we’ve valued our ritual and traditions over relationships and truth.

Luke 6:12 (GW) 12   At that time Jesus went to a mountain to pray. He spent the whole night in prayer to God.

PRAYER: I could spend a little more time praying, couldn’t I?!!

Philippians 3:3 (GW) 3  We are the {true} circumcised people {of God} because we serve God's Spirit and take pride in Christ Jesus. We don't place any confidence in physical things.

PRAYER: I’m trying not to, anyway.

Philippians 3:7-8 (GW) 7  These things that I once considered valuable, I now consider worthless for Christ. 8  It's far more than that! I consider everything else worthless because I'm much better off knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. It's because of him that I think of everything as worthless. I threw it all away in order to gain Christ

PRAYER: YOU are the pearl of great price in my life.  Sometimes I forget, sometimes I’m tempted by “things” – but in the end I know YOU are the better choice.

Psalm 119:156,159 (GW) 156  Your acts of compassion are many in number, O LORD. Give me a new life guided by your regulations. 159  See how I have loved your guiding principles! O LORD, in keeping with your mercy, give me a new life.

PRAYER: YOUR Word guides me, refreshes me, and empowers me.  Thank YOU!

2 Kings 14:3-4,6 (GW) 3  He did what the LORD considered right, but not exactly what his ancestor David had done. He did everything his father Joash had done. 4  But the illegal places of worship were still not torn down. The people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense at these worship sites…. 6  … He obeyed the LORD'S command written in the Book of Moses' Teachings: “Parents must never be put to death for the crimes of their children, and children must never be put to death for the crimes of their parents. Each person must be put to death for his own crime.”

2 Kings 15:3-5 (GW) 3  He did what the LORD considered right, as his father Amaziah had done. 4  But the illegal places of worship were still not torn down. The people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense at these worship sites. 5   The LORD inflicted the king with a skin disease that lasted until the day the king died. So the king lived in a separate house. The king's son Jotham was in charge of the palace and governed the country.

2 Kings 15:34-35 (GW) 34  He did what the LORD considered right, as his father Azariah had done. 35  But the illegal places of worship were not torn down. The people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense at these worship sites. Jotham built the Upper Gate of the LORD'S temple.

PRAYER: Reading the Bible and doing mostly good is OK.  But what YOU want from me is an uncompromising faith that spreads to those around me.

2 Kings 14:24 (GW) 24  He did what the LORD considered evil. He didn't turn away from any of the sins ….

2 Kings 15:9 (GW) 9  He did what the LORD considered evil, …. He didn't turn away from the sins …

2 Kings 15:18 (GW) 18  He did what the LORD considered evil. During his entire life he never turned away from the sins ….

2 Kings 15:24 (GW) 24  He did what the LORD considered evil. He didn't turn away from the sins ….

2 Kings 15:28 (GW) 28  He did what the LORD considered evil. He did not turn away from the sins that Jeroboam (Nebat's son) led Israel to commit.

PRAYER: It is as awful reading this a it must have been for YOU to endure.  May our church leaders shine with whole hearted devotion and spiritual integrity.

2 Kings 14:26 (GW) 26  The LORD did this because he saw how bitterly everyone in Israel was suffering. No slave or free person could help Israel.

PRAYER: I love how YOU watch over us and whether or not we deserve YOUR attention, YOU remain compassionate towards us.

THOT: the Jesus follower is aware and guards against constant temptations towards spiritual idolatry.
