MONDAY 4/24/2017 (06-21) #1946

Read: Luke 6:17-26, Phil 3:10-14, Psa 119:161-168, 2 Kgs 16-17

Luke 6:18 (GW) 18  They wanted to hear him and be cured of their diseases. Those who were tormented by evil spirits were cured.

PRAYER: May YOU be truly sought out this week and this coming weekend.

Luke 6:20-23 (GW) 20  Jesus looked at his disciples and said, “Blessed are those who are poor. …. 21  …. hungry. crying. …. 22  …. when people hate you, avoid you, insult you, and slander you because you are committed to the Son of Man. 23  Rejoice then, and be very happy! You have a great reward in heaven. That's the way their ancestors treated the prophets.

Luke 6:20-23 (GW) 20  … The kingdom of God is theirs. 21  … They will be satisfied. They will laugh. 22  …. 23  …. You have a great reward in heaven. …..

PRAYER: I am blessed, I will rejoice.

Luke 6:24-26 (GW) 24  “But how horrible it will be for those who are rich. …. 25  …. well-fed. …. laughing. …. 26  …. when everyone says nice things about you.

Luke 6:24-25 (GW) 24  “ They have had their comfort. 25  ….They will be hungry. …. They will mourn and cry.

PRAYER: That describe virtually every American Christian I know.  We repent of our self-centered and gluttonous ways.  We may be in the top 10% of the world’s wealthiest – but we are spiritually poor, blind and naked nation of believers.

Philippians 3:12-14 (GW) 12  It's not that I've already reached the goal or have already completed the course. But I run to win that which Jesus Christ has already won for me. 13  Brothers and sisters, I can't consider myself a winner yet. This is what I do: I don't look back, I lengthen my stride, and 14  I run straight toward the goal to win the prize that God's heavenly call offers in Christ Jesus.

PRAYER: Help me to remain focused on the goal YOU have for me.

Psalm 119:168 (GW) 168  I have followed your guiding principles and your written instructions, because my whole life is in front of you.

PRAYER: Who else can I trust to guide me best?!!! YOU are it!

2 Kings 17:9,13-14,17,33 (GW) 9  The Israelites secretly did things against the LORD their God that weren't right: They built for themselves illegal places of worship 13  The LORD had warned Israel and Judah through every kind of prophet and seer, “Turn from your evil ways, and obey my commands and decrees as I commanded your ancestors in all my teachings, the commands I sent to you through my servants the prophets.” 14  But they refused to listen. …. 17  They sacrificed their sons and daughters by burning them alive. They practiced black magic and cast evil spells. They sold themselves by doing what the LORD considered evil, and they made him furious.33  They worshiped the LORD but also served their own gods according to the customs of the nations from which they had come.

PRAYER: How is that we think we can pull the wool over YOUR eyes.  Forgive us Lord.  YOU and YOU alone are worthy of our worship and adoration.

2 Kings 17:36-40 (GW) 36  Instead, worship the LORD, who used his great power and a mighty arm to bring you out of Egypt. Bow down to the LORD, and sacrifice to him. 37  Faithfully obey the laws, rules, teachings, and commands that he wrote for you: ‘Never worship other gods. 38  Never forget the promise I made to you. Never worship other gods. 39  Instead, worship the LORD your God, and he will rescue you from your enemies.'” 40  The people of Israel had refused to listen and made up their own rules, as they had done from the beginning.

PRAYER: YOU can’t make it any clearer.  Yet we excuse ourselves from fully obeying YOUR Word.  Forgive us, keep the church on path with YOUR Will.

THOT: The real Christian may be poor, hungry, and hated by circumstance or opposition.  They are not manipulated by the pull of this world.  They live for something better.

Luke 6:27-29,32 (GW) 27   “But I tell everyone who is listening: Love your enemies. Be kind to those who hate you. 28  Bless those who curse you. Even sinners love those who love them.

PRAYER: I can always love better and more purely.

Luke 6:29-30,33-34 (GW) 29  …. If someone takes your coat, don't stop him from taking your shirt. 30  Give to everyone who asks you for something. If someone takes what is yours, don't insist on getting it back…. 33  If you help those who help you, do you deserve any thanks for that? Sinners do that too. 34  If you lend anything to those from whom you expect to get something back, do you deserve any thanks for that? Sinners also lend to sinners to get back what they lend.

PRAYER: I can be better at generosity.

Luke 6:31 (GW) 31  “Do for other people everything you want them to do for you.

PRAYER: I can be more thoughtful of others, too.

PRAYER: Empowered by YOUR Word, may my life bring  praise to YOU.

Psalm 119:176 (GW) 176  I have wandered away like a lost lamb. Search for me, because I have never forgotten your commandments.

PRAYER: Forgive me my wandering moments and bring me back home, Lord, when I fall away.

2 Kings 18:29-30,36 (GW) 29  This is what the king says: Don't let Hezekiah deceive you. He can't rescue you from me. 30  Don't let Hezekiah get you to trust the LORD by saying, ‘The LORD will certainly rescue us, and this city will not be put under the control of the king of Assyria.'  36  But the people were silent and didn't say anything to him because the king commanded them not to answer him.

PRAYER: Sometimes silence is the better answer.

2 Kings 19:14-16 (GW) 14  Hezekiah took the letters from the messengers, read them, and went to the LORD'S temple. He spread them out in front of the LORD 15  and prayed to the LORD, “LORD of Armies, God of Israel, you are enthroned over the angels. You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the world. You made heaven and earth. 16  Turn your ear toward me, LORD, and listen. Open your eyes, LORD, and see. Listen to the message that Sennacherib sent to defy the living God.

PRAYER: I will bring to YOU those things that bring my faith down.

2 Kings 19:27 (GW) 27  I know when you {get up} and sit down, when you go out and come in, and how you rage against me.

2 Kings 19:29-30 (GW) 29  “‘And this will be a sign for you, Hezekiah: You will eat what grows by itself this year and next year. But in the third year you will plant and harvest, plant vineyards, and eat what is produced. 30  Those few people from the nation of Judah who escape will again take root and produce crops.

PRAYER: May we few remaining faithful see a produce again in growing disciples.

2 Kings 19:35 (GW) 35  It happened that night. The LORD'S angel went out and killed 185,000 {soldiers} in the Assyrian camp. When the Judeans got up early in the morning, they saw all the corpses.

PRAYER: Lord, deliver the people of our church from witchcraft, astrology, and anything that is not of YOU.  May they seek YOU and get their consultation from YOUR Living Word,

2 Kings 21:22 (GW) 22  He abandoned the LORD God of his ancestors and didn't live the LORD'S way.

NOTE: Don’t you wonder how king after king can deny the religious heritage they were called to?!  Though we are not as obvious with our idols and disobedience, are we that much different, really?!

PRAYER: Lord, forgive us our wanderings, our idolatry, and our blatant sins.  Clean us up and may we, once again, shine for YOU.

Luke 6:46,49 (GW) 46   “Why do you call me Lord but don't do what I tell you? 49  The person who hears {what I say} but doesn't obey it is like someone who built a house on the ground without any foundation. The floodwaters pushed against it, and that house quickly collapsed and was destroyed.”
