If you use this weekly guide  - you'll cover all of the Bible in just 300 days.   This is sort of a "Cliff Notes" version of the reading plan that Pastor John uses.  But it's more than just learning stuff.  This helps you to communicate with God.  You'll hear Him, and He will hear you..

MONDAY 5/22/2017

Read: Luke 10:38-42, 1 Thess 4:11-18, Psa 141, 2 Chron 8-9

Luke 10:39,41-42 (GW) 39  She had a sister named Mary. Mary sat at the Lord's feet and listened to him talk. … 41  The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha! You worry and fuss about a lot of things. 42  There's only one thing you need. Mary has made the right choice, and that one thing will not be taken away from her.”

PRAYER: I choose YOUR Word over worry, I choose faith over fussing.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 (GW) 16  The Lord will come from heaven with a command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet {call} of God. First, the dead who believed in Christ will come back to life. 17  Then, together with them, we who are still alive will be taken in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. In this way we will always be with the Lord. 18  So then, comfort each other with these words!

PRAYER: Thank YOU for taking us to the “forever” place.

Psalm 141:3 (GW) 3  O LORD, set a guard at my mouth. Keep watch over the door of my lips.

PRAYER: I’ll try to listen more than talk, but when I do speak – help me to manage my mouth.

Psalm 141:4 (GW) 4  Do not let me be persuaded to do anything evil or to become involved with wickedness, with people who are troublemakers. Do not let me taste their delicacies.

PRAYER: Help me to keep my life “in check”.

Psalm 141:5 (GW) 5  A righteous person may strike me or correct me out of kindness. It is like lotion for my head. My head will not refuse it, because my prayer is directed against evil deeds.

PRAYER: I’m  not thrilled about discipline, but if they love me, then I will learn to love it.  May I learn to be as good of a friend to others.

2 Chronicles 8:14-15 (GW) 14  As Solomon's father David had directed, he set up the divisions of priests for their service and the {divisions of} Levites for their appointed places. {The Levites} were to lead in praising {the LORD} and to serve beside the priests by doing whatever needed to be done each day. Solomon also set up divisions of doorkeepers at every gate because this is what David, the man of God, had commanded. 15  No one neglected the king's orders to the priests or the Levites in any matter, including the {temple's} finances.

PRAYER: Bless our band, our Sunday school workers, our greeters and “door keepers”, and bless all our laborers.

THOT: Jesus followers are students first but they are practitioners also.

Tuesday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

TUESDAY 5/23/2017

Read: Luke 11:1-13, 1 Thess 5:1-11, Psa 142, 2 Chron 10-12

Luke 11:2-4 (GW) 2  Jesus told them, “When you pray, say this: Father, let your name be kept holy. Let your kingdom come. 3  Give us our bread day by day. 4  Forgive us as we forgive everyone else. Don't allow us to be tempted.”

NOTE: this is a community prayer:“us” “our” “we”.

PRAYER: Lord, YOU are the Exalted One, May YOUR will be done here with us, we trust YOU for our provisions today, tomorrow we trust to YOU, and while we ask for a wall of protection from Satan’s deception and temptations, if we fail we are grateful for YOUR mercy and grace which we intend to share with other imperfect people.

Luke 11:5,8-9,13 (GW) 5   Jesus said to his disciples, “Suppose one of you has a friend. Suppose you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, let me borrow three loaves of bread. … 8  I can guarantee that although he doesn't want to get up to give you anything, he will get up and give you whatever you need because he is your friend and because you were so bold. 9  “So I tell you to ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. … 13  Even though you're evil, you know how to give good gifts to your children. So how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

PRAYER: I often will ask but not necessarily search nor open that door.  I realize that faith requires some footwork.

1 Thessalonians 5:2 (GW) 2  You know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

PRAYER: This is kinda exciting and kinda frightening.  I will stay alert.

1 Thessalonians 5:4-8 (GW) 4  … don't live in the dark. That day won't take you by surprise …. 5  You belong to the day and the light not to the night and the dark. 6  Therefore, we must not fall asleep like other people, but we must stay awake and be sober. 7  People who sleep, sleep at night; people who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8  Since we belong to the day, we must be sober. We must put on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

PRAYER: I do not belong to this world.  I will live in the light with a bold reflection of YOUR love and my faith in YOU.  I am redeemed. I am YOUR’s.  I know who I am now.

1 Thessalonians 5:9 (GW) 9  It was not God's intention that we experience his anger but that we obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER: Help me to reach others who are unaware of YOUR plan to avoid eternal destruction.  That would be awful.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (GW) 11  Therefore, encourage each other and strengthen one another as you are doing.

PRAYER: May the church grow in love, unity, and strength of character.

Psalm 142:6 (GW) 6  Pay attention to my cry for help because I am very weak. Rescue me from those who pursue me because they are too strong for me.

PRAYER: For all those weak moments in my life, I trust in YOU.

Psalm 142:7 (GW) 7  Release my soul from prison so that I may give thanks to your name. Righteous people will surround me because you are good to me.

PRAYER: In the darkest moments may YOU surround me with YOUR saints.  And when a brother or sister is down, send me to them.

2 Chronicles 10:8 (GW) 8  But he ignored the advice the older leaders gave him. He sought advice from the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.

PRAYER: I’ll be inspired by the enthusiasm of the youth, but I will listen to the wisdom of my elders.

2 Chronicles 12:12,14 (GW) 12  After Rehoboam humbled himself, the LORD was no longer angry with him and didn't completely destroy him. So things went well in Judah. …. 14  He did evil things because he was not serious about dedicating himself to serving the LORD.

PRAYER: How amazing is YOUR mercy.  I hope to be serious and dedicated to serving YOU.

THOT: Jesus followers have bad days also, but they have a way out that unbelievers do not have.  If one is truly devoted to the Lord, they’ll seek to help/save the Lord’s lost children.

Read: Luke 11:14-28, 1 Thess 5:12-28, Psa 143, 2 Chron 13-16

Luke 11:17 (GW) 17  Since Jesus knew what they were thinking, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is ruined. A house divided against itself falls.

PRAYER: I pray for the church to be as one.

Luke 11:23 (GW) 23  “Whoever isn't with me is against me. Whoever doesn't gather with me scatters.

PRAYER: Help us to get churched people to be full-fledged followers.  And help all of us to do a better job of gathering people in.

Luke 11:26 (GW) 26  Then the spirit goes and brings along seven other spirits more evil than itself. They enter and take up permanent residence there. In the end the condition of that person is worse than it was before.”

NOTE: It’s not about stopping bad habits, it’s about being filled with Christ.

PRAYER: Lord, I appreciate the role YOU have in my life.  Keep those demons at bay.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13 (GW) 12  Brothers and sisters, we ask you to show your appreciation for those leaders who work among you and instruct you. 13  We ask you to love them and think very highly of them because of the work they are doing. Live in peace with each other.

PRAYER: I appreciate and ask YOU to bless all our church leaders.

1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 (GW) 14  We encourage you, brothers and sisters, to instruct those who are not living right, cheer up those who are discouraged, help the weak, and be patient with everyone. 15  Make sure that no one ever pays back one wrong with another wrong. Instead, always try to do what is good for each other and everyone else.

PRAYER: I will be honest but loving.  I will try to be less self-concerned and more “other” minded.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (GW) 16  Always be joyful. 17  Never stop praying. 18  Whatever happens, give thanks, because it is God's will in Christ Jesus that you do this.

PRAYER: Ever joy filled, prayerful and thankful – yep, because of YOU - I can do that!!!!

1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 (GW) 21  Instead, test everything. Hold on to what is good. 22  Keep away from every kind of evil.

PRAYER: Help me to make wiser decisions

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (GW) 23  May the God who gives peace make you holy in every way. May he keep your whole being—spirit, soul, and body—blameless when our Lord Jesus Christ comes.

PRAYER: I’m not perfect but I am YOUR’s.  Help me to clean up and look like I belong to YOUR kingdom.

Psalm 143:10 (GW) 10  Teach me to do your will, because you are my God. May your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

PRAYER: I do need YOUR help and guidance.

2 Chronicles 13:18 (GW) 18  So the Israelites were humbled at that time, and the men of Judah won because they trusted the LORD God of their ancestors.

NOTE: both groups were part of God’s family.  One is blessed, one is humbled.

PRAYER: Lord, may our congregation remain loyal and faithful to YOU.

2 Chronicles 14:11 (GW) 11  Asa called on the LORD his God. He said, “LORD, there is no one except you who can help those who are not strong so that they can fight against a large {army}. Help us, LORD our God, because we are depending on you. In your name we go against this large crowd. You are the LORD our God. Don't let anyone successfully oppose you.”

PRAYER: When the chips are down, YOU are always up and ready.

2 Chronicles 15:2,4 (GW) 2  …. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you will dedicate your lives to serving him, he will accept you. But if you abandon him, he will abandon you…. 4  But when they were in trouble, they turned to the LORD God of Israel. When they searched for him, he let them find him.

PRAYER: I hope to remain YOUR loyal servant.  But for the times I may stray, I’m grateful for YOUR mercy.

2 Chronicles 15:7 (GW) 7  But you must remain strong and not become discouraged. Your actions will be rewarded.”

PRAYER: I will not be a quitter.  I will persevere.

2 Chronicles 16:9 (GW) 9  The LORD'S eyes scan the whole world to find those whose hearts are committed to him and to strengthen them. ….”

PRAYER: I re-commit my life to YOU today.

THOT: real Jesus followers work at personal holiness, corporate unity, and community strength. They are loyal, faithful, and persevering – even in the tough and trying times. They are remarkably patient because they are ever prayerful and faithfilled.

THURSDAY 5/25/2017

Read: Luke 11:29-36, 2 Thess 1:1-7, Psa 144, 2 Chron 17-19

Luke 11:32 (GW) 32  The men of Nineveh will stand up at the time of judgment with the people living today. Since the men of Nineveh turned to God and changed the way they thought and acted when Jonah spoke his message, they will condemn the people living today. But look, someone greater than Jonah is here!

PRAYER: I surrender to YOU. May my thoughts and actions prove it.

Luke 11:33 (GW) 33  “No one lights a lamp and hides it or puts it under a basket. Instead, everyone who lights a lamp puts it on a lamp stand so that those who come in will see its light.

PRAYER: We can and should shine a lot brighter for you.

Luke 11:35-36 (GW) 35  So be careful that the light in you isn't darkness. 36  If your whole body is full of light and not darkness, it will be as bright as a lamp shining on you.”

NOTE: How many churchgoers and churches think they’ve got the light when really all they are doing is covering the darkness in their lives.

PRAYER: Lord, may I, may the church be authentically changed to be a light our community needs.

2 Thessalonians 1:3 (GW) 3  We always have to thank God for you, brothers and sisters. It's right to do this because your faith is showing remarkable growth and your love for each other is increasing.

PRAYER: May the church grow spiritually mature and incredibly loving.

2 Thessalonians 1:5 (GW) 5  Your suffering proves that God's judgment is right and that you are considered worthy of his kingdom.

PRAYER: Much as I don’t like suffering, I’d like to prove myself worthy of YOUR kingdom.

Psalm 144:1-2 (GW) 1  Thank the LORD, my rock, who trained my hands to fight and my fingers to do battle, 2  my merciful one, my fortress, my stronghold, and my savior, my shield, the one in whom I take refuge, and the one who brings people under my authority.

PRAYER: Regardless of the cover and protection YOU give me, yet I will still train for the spiritual battle before me.

Psalm 144:9 (GW) 9  O God, I will sing a new song to you. ….

PRAYER: YOU deserve a fresh song of praise and worship.  May this weekend be anything but ‘same ole, same ole’.

Psalm 144:13,15 (GW) 13  May our barns be filled with all kinds of crops. May our sheep give birth to thousands of lambs, tens of thousands in our fields.  15  Blessed are the people who have these blessings! Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD!

PRAYER: While I am content with what YOU have already given to me.  I would be deeply appreciative for ‘full barns’.  Either way, I thank YOU.

2 Chronicles 17:3-6 (GW) 3  The LORD was with Jehoshaphat, who lived in the old way like his ancestor David. Jehoshaphat didn't dedicate his life to serving other gods—the Baals. 4  Instead, he dedicated his life to his ancestor's God and lived by God's commands. Jehoshaphat did not do what Israel was doing. 5  So the LORD established Jehoshaphat's power over the kingdom. All the people of Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat, and he had a lot of riches and honor. 6  He had the confidence to live the way the LORD wanted him to live. He also got rid of the illegal places of worship and poles dedicated to the goddess Asherah in Judah.

PRAYER: I dedicate the rest of my life to following YOU and YOUR Word.  Help me to breakdown those strongholds in my life that do not honor YOU.

2 Chronicles 18:4 (GW) 4  Then Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “But first, find out what the word of the LORD is {in this matter}.”

PRAYER: Jesus first, got it!

2 Chronicles 19:7 (GW) 7  May you have the fear of the LORD in you. Be careful about what you do. The LORD our God is never unjust. He is impartial and never takes bribes.”

NOTE: How many times has you told the Lord, “if You do this for me, I’ll do that for You!

PRAYER: Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to manipulate YOU, as if that could even done!

2 Chronicles 19:11 (GW) 11  …. Be strong, and do your job. May the LORD be with those who do right.

They were defeated.
