MONDAY 5/22/2017

Read: Luke 10:38-42, 1 Thess 4:11-18, Psa 141, 2 Chron 8-9

Luke 10:39,41-42 (GW) 39  She had a sister named Mary. Mary sat at the Lord's feet and listened to him talk. … 41  The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha! You worry and fuss about a lot of things. 42  There's only one thing you need. Mary has made the right choice, and that one thing will not be taken away from her.”

PRAYER: I choose YOUR Word over worry, I choose faith over fussing.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 (GW) 16  The Lord will come from heaven with a command, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet {call} of God. First, the dead who believed in Christ will come back to life. 17  Then, together with them, we who are still alive will be taken in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. In this way we will always be with the Lord. 18  So then, comfort each other with these words!

PRAYER: Thank YOU for taking us to the “forever” place.

Psalm 141:3 (GW) 3  O LORD, set a guard at my mouth. Keep watch over the door of my lips.

PRAYER: I’ll try to listen more than talk, but when I do speak – help me to manage my mouth.

Psalm 141:4 (GW) 4  Do not let me be persuaded to do anything evil or to become involved with wickedness, with people who are troublemakers. Do not let me taste their delicacies.

PRAYER: Help me to keep my life “in check”.

Psalm 141:5 (GW) 5  A righteous person may strike me or correct me out of kindness. It is like lotion for my head. My head will not refuse it, because my prayer is directed against evil deeds.

PRAYER: I’m  not thrilled about discipline, but if they love me, then I will learn to love it.  May I learn to be as good of a friend to others.

2 Chronicles 8:14-15 (GW) 14  As Solomon's father David had directed, he set up the divisions of priests for their service and the {divisions of} Levites for their appointed places. {The Levites} were to lead in praising {the LORD} and to serve beside the priests by doing whatever needed to be done each day. Solomon also set up divisions of doorkeepers at every gate because this is what David, the man of God, had commanded. 15  No one neglected the king's orders to the priests or the Levites in any matter, including the {temple's} finances.

PRAYER: Bless our band, our Sunday school workers, our greeters and “door keepers”, and bless all our laborers.

THOT: Jesus followers are students first but they are practitioners also.

TUESDAY 5/23/2017

Read: Luke 11:1-13, 1 Thess 5:1-11, Psa 142, 2 Chron 10-12

Luke 11:2-4 (GW) 2  Jesus told them, “When you pray, say this: Father, let your name be kept holy. Let your kingdom come. 3  Give us our bread day by day. 4  Forgive us as we forgive everyone else. Don't allow us to be tempted.”

NOTE: this is a community prayer:“us” “our” “we”.

PRAYER: Lord, YOU are the Exalted One, May YOUR will be done here with us, we trust YOU for our provisions today, tomorrow we trust to YOU, and while we ask for a wall of protection from Satan’s deception and temptations, if we fail we are grateful for YOUR mercy and grace which we intend to share with other imperfect people.

Luke 11:5,8-9,13 (GW) 5   Jesus said to his disciples, “Suppose one of you has a friend. Suppose you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, let me borrow three loaves of bread. … 8  I can guarantee that although he doesn't want to get up to give you anything, he will get up and give you whatever you need because he is your friend and because you were so bold. 9  “So I tell you to ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you. … 13  Even though you're evil, you know how to give good gifts to your children. So how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”

PRAYER: I often will ask but not necessarily search nor open that door.  I realize that faith requires some footwork.

1 Thessalonians 5:2 (GW) 2  You know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

PRAYER: This is kinda exciting and kinda frightening.  I will stay alert.

1 Thessalonians 5:4-8 (GW) 4  … don't live in the dark. That day won't take you by surprise …. 5  You belong to the day and the light not to the night and the dark. 6  Therefore, we must not fall asleep like other people, but we must stay awake and be sober. 7  People who sleep, sleep at night; people who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8  Since we belong to the day, we must be sober. We must put on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

PRAYER: I do not belong to this world.  I will live in the light with a bold reflection of YOUR love and my faith in YOU.  I am redeemed. I am YOUR’s.  I know who I am now.

1 Thessalonians 5:9 (GW) 9  It was not God's intention that we experience his anger but that we obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER: For all those weak moments in my life, I trust in YOU.

Psalm 142:7 (GW) 7  Release my soul from prison so that I may give thanks to your name. Righteous people will surround me because you are good to me.

PRAYER: In the darkest moments may YOU surround me with YOUR saints.  And when a brother or sister is down, send me to them.

2 Chronicles 10:8 (GW) 8  But he ignored the advice the older leaders gave him. He sought advice from the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him.

PRAYER: I’ll be inspired by the enthusiasm of the youth, but I will listen to the wisdom of my elders.

2 Chronicles 12:12,14 (GW) 12  After Rehoboam humbled himself, the LORD was no longer angry with him and didn't completely destroy him. So things went well in Judah. …. 14  He did evil things because he was not serious about dedicating himself to serving the LORD.

PRAYER: How amazing is YOUR mercy.  I hope to be serious and dedicated to serving YOU.

THOT: Jesus followers have bad days also, but they have a way out that unbelievers do not have.  If one is truly devoted to the Lord, they’ll seek to help/save the Lord’s lost children.

1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 (GW) 14  We encourage you, brothers and sisters, to instruct those who are not living right, cheer up those who are discouraged, help the weak, and be patient with everyone. 15  Make sure that no one ever pays back one wrong with another wrong. NOTE: both groups were part of God’s family.  One is blessed, one is humbled.

PRAYER: Lord, may our congregation remain loyal and faithful to YOU.

2 Chronicles 14:11 (GW) 11  Asa called on the LORD his God. He said, “LORD, there is no one except you who can help those who are not strong so that they can fight against a large {army}. Help us, LORD our God, because we are depending on you. In your name we go against this large crowd. You are the LORD our God. Don't let anyone successfully oppose you.”

PRAYER: When the chips are down, YOU are always up and ready.

2 Chronicles 15:2,4 (GW) 2  …. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you will dedicate your lives to serving him, he will accept you. Jehoshaphat didn't dedicate his life to serving other gods—the Baals. 4  Instead, he dedicated his life to his ancestor's God and lived by God's commands. Jehoshaphat did not do what Israel was doing. 5  So the LORD established Jehoshaphat's power over the kingdom. All the people of Judah gave gifts to Jehoshaphat, and he had a lot of riches and honor. 6  He had the confidence to live the way the LORD wanted him to live.
