If you use this weekly guide  - you'll cover all of the Bible in just 300 days.   This is sort of a "Cliff Notes" version of the reading plan that Pastor John uses.  But it's more than just learning stuff.  This helps you to communicate with God.  You'll hear Him, and He will hear you..

MONDAY 6/5/2017

Read: Luke 13:1-9, 1 Tim 1:1-11, Prov 1, Ezra 1-2

Luke 13:3,5 (GW) 3  … if you don't turn to God and change the way you think and act, then you, too, will all die.  5  … if you don't turn to God and change the way you think and act, then you, too, will all die.”

NOTE: Jesus’ messages aren’t all sunshine and roses. Note the double emphasis.

PRAYER: Lord, I’m taking seriously YOUR leadership and authority over my life.

Luke 13:6-7 (GW) 6  Then Jesus used this illustration: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard. He went to look for fruit on the tree but didn't find any. 7  He said to the gardener, ‘For the last three years I've come to look for figs on this fig tree but haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up {good} soil?'

PRAYER: I want to be fruitful in my Christian walk.  Help me to bear more fruit.

1 Timothy 1:5 (GW) 5  My goal in giving you this order is for love to flow from a pure heart, from a clear conscience, and from a sincere faith.

PRAYER: fill us up with YOUR love, may we speak and live as people of faith and with integrity.

1 Timothy 1:6 (GW) 6  Some people have left these qualities behind and have turned to useless discussions.

PRAYER: Save us from fruitless discussions and useless exercises.

1 Timothy 1:10 (GW) 10  Laws are intended for people involved in sexual sins, for homosexuals, for kidnappers, for liars, for those who lie when they take an oath, and for whatever else is against accurate teachings.

NOTE: Have you ever lied? Then you are in the same boat as all the other “sinners”, aren’t you?

PRAYER: Lord, thank YOU for YOUR mercy and grace, covering a sinner like me.

Proverbs 1:7 (GW) 7  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge. Stubborn fools despise wisdom and discipline.

PRAYER: I deeply respect revere YOU!!!

Proverbs 1:19 (GW) 19  This is what happens to everyone who is greedy for unjust gain. Greed takes away his life.

PRAYER: Help me to resist our favorite American tradition of ‘greed’.

Proverbs 1:23 (GW) 23  “Turn to me when I warn you. I will generously pour out my spirit for you. I will make my words known to you.

PRAYER: I want YOU and YOUR Word.

Proverbs 1:28-32 (GW) 28  “They will call to me at that time, but I will not answer. They will look for me, but they will not find me, 29  because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD. 30  They refused my advice. They despised my every warning. 31  They will eat the fruit of their lifestyle. They will be stuffed with their own schemes. 32  “Gullible people kill themselves because of their turning away. Fools destroy themselves because of their indifference.

PRAYER: Help us to resist our cultures lure to complacency and selfishness.

Proverbs 1:33 (GW) 33  But whoever listens to me will live without worry and will be free from the dread of disaster.”

PRAYER: Nice!  Thank YOU!

Ezra 1:5 (GW) 5  …everyone God had inspired—came forward to rebuild the LORD'S temple in Jerusalem.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for the may ‘inspired’ who keep YOUR house of Worship in good order.

Ezra 2:68-69 (GW) 68   … they contributed freewill offerings to help rebuild God's temple on its {former} site. 69  They contributed as much as they could to the treasury for this work: ….

PRAYER: We know that our building is not YOUR real home, but  we’ll take care of it anyway.

THOT: The real Jesus follower is a changed person who lives a life of fruitful faith. They are tempted but not bound by worldly temptation because God’s daily Word dwells richly in them.

TUESDAY 6/6/2017

Read: Luke 13:10-21, 1 Tim 1:12-20, Prov 2, Ezra 3

Luke 13:16 (GW) 16  Now, here is a descendant of Abraham. Satan has kept her in this condition for 18 years. Isn't it right to free her on the day of worship?”

PRAYER: May the YOUR work continue on this next day of rest.

Luke 13:19-21 (GW) 19  It's like a mustard seed that someone planted in a garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds nested in its branches.” 20  He asked again, “What can I compare the kingdom of God to? 21  It's like yeast that a woman mixed into a large amount of flour until the yeast worked its way through all the dough.”

PRAYER: May my faith in YOU grow me, and may the results be positively infectious to others.

1 Timothy 1:13,16 (GW) 13  In the past I cursed him, persecuted him, and acted arrogantly toward him. However, I was treated with mercy because I acted ignorantly in my unbelief.  16  However, I was treated with mercy so that Christ Jesus could use me, the foremost sinner, to demonstrate his patience. This patience serves as an example for those who would believe in him and live forever.

PRAYER: Remind me about this patience thing when newbies tax my own.  YOU were merciful to me, I can do that to others.

1 Timothy 1:15 (GW) 15  This is a statement that can be trusted and deserves complete acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, and I am the foremost sinner.

QUOTE:

1 Timothy 1:18 (GW) 18  Timothy, my child, I'm giving you this order about the prophecies that are still coming to you: Use these prophecies in faith and with a clear conscience to fight this noble war.

PRAYER: Sometimes I forget there is a spiritual battle raging and that Satan is my true enemy.

1 Timothy 1:19 (GW) 19  Some have refused to let their faith guide their conscience and their faith has been destroyed like a wrecked ship.

PRAYER: Help me to help others from making poor choices.

Proverbs 2:7,21 (GW) 7  He has reserved priceless wisdom for decent people. He is a shield for those who walk in integrity 21  Decent people will live in the land. People of integrity will remain in it.

PRAYER: May my life glow with integrity.

Proverbs 2:11 (GW) 11  Foresight will protect you. Understanding will guard you.

PRAYER: Make me wise through YOUR living Word, Lord.

Ezra 3:13 (GW) 13  No one could distinguish between the joyful shouts and the loud sobbing because the people were shouting so loudly. The noise was heard from far away.

PRAYER: May this weekend be so spiritually strong that people from around the community will hear our all our cries of joy, repentance, and change.

THOT: worship could and should be a moving experience for everyone even thought the focus must always be the Lord God Almighty.

Wednesday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

WEDNESDAY 6/7/2017

Read: Luke 13:22-35, 1 Tim 2, Prov 3, Ezra 4-5

Luke 13:23-24,26-27 (GW) 23  Someone asked him, “Sir, are only a few people going to be saved?” He answered, 24  “Try hard to enter through the narrow door. I can guarantee that many will try to enter, but they won't succeed. … 26  Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.' 27  But he will tell you, ‘I don't know who you are. Get away from me, all you evil people.'

NOTE: So much for the wishful theory that everyone goes to heaven.  Casual Christianity is not acceptable.

PRAYER: Lord, though it is grace by which I am saved.  My life will demonstrate that I appreciate and value that grace.

Luke 13:29-30 (GW) 29  People will come from all over the world and will eat in the kingdom of God. 30  Some who are last will be first, and some who are first will be last.”

PRAYER: May our church reach well beyond our walls and serve those who are “last” as though they are “first”.

Luke 13:32 (GW) 32  Jesus said to them, “Tell that fox that I will force demons out of people and heal people today and tomorrow. I will finish my work on the third day.

PRAYER: YOU are the resurrected Master, my Savior.

Luke 13:34 (GW) 34  “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you kill the prophets and stone to death those sent to you! How often I wanted to gather your children together the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings! But you were not willing!

PRAYER: forgive us for our stubborn and willful ways.

1 Timothy 2:1-2,8 (GW) 1  First of all, I encourage you to make petitions, prayers, intercessions, and prayers of thanks for all people, 2  for rulers, and for everyone who has authority over us. Pray for these people so that we can have a quiet and peaceful life always lived in a godly and reverent way.  8  I want men to offer prayers everywhere. They should raise their hands in prayer after putting aside their anger and any quarrels they have with anyone.

PRAYER: appreciative and without angst, I lift up all our leaders of the church, the nation, and the world.

1 Timothy 2:4 (GW) 4  He wants all people to be saved and to learn the truth.

PRAYER: I understand that everyone means “everyone”.  I will try to be more understanding and helpful in leading even the most obnoxious to the faith.

1 Timothy 2:5-6 (GW) 5  There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and humans—a human, Christ Jesus. 6  He sacrificed himself for all people to free them from their sins. This message is valid for every era.

PRAYER: thank YOU, thank YOU, thank YOU!!!

1 Timothy 2:12 (GW) 12  I don't allow a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. Instead, she should be quiet.

NOTE: the word “authority” is really more “usurp or misappropriate authority” or “domineer” which was a problem with a new religion that shockingly grew as strong by means of it’s women as it did with the more culturally acceptable masculine leadership.

PRAYER: Lord, may all teachers, male or female, lead with grace and love.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (GW) 5  Trust the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. 6  In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths smooth.

PRAYER: I give YOU full control of my life.  YOU are my priority today and every day.

Proverbs 3:9-10 (GW) 9  Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the first and best part of all your income. 10  Then your barns will be full, and your vats will overflow with fresh wine.

NOTE: Those who don’t tithe remain dissatisfied and frustrated in their attempts to tithe, not realizing when you give the first dollar the other nine come much more easily.

PRAYER: Lord, what little I give to YOU is a mere token of my enormous appreciation for YOUR love and constant attention.

Proverbs 3:12 (GW) 12  because the LORD warns the one he loves, even as a father warns a son with whom he is pleased.

PRAYER: Yeah, I don’t really like discipline, but I know that YOU really love me enough to give it.

Proverbs 3:26 (GW) 26  The LORD will be your confidence. He will keep your foot from getting caught.

PRAYER: With YOU at my side, today we are an invincible team.

Ezra 4:1-3 (GW) 1  When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard …, 2  they approached Zerubbabel and the heads of the families. They told them, “We want to help you build because we worship the same God you worship. …ere.” 3  But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of Israel's families told them, “It isn't right for your people and our people to build a temple for our God together. We must build it alone for the LORD God of Israel, as King Cyrus of Persia ordered us to do.”

NOTE:  Sometimes what appears to be an answer is really a ploy to keep us from God’s will. Be wise, stay in the Word.

PRAYER: Lord, help us to hear YOUR still small voice against all the shouts Satan and the world would tempt us with.

Ezra 5:5 (GW) 5  But the leaders of the Jews were under God's watchful eye. They couldn't be stopped until Darius received a report and sent a reply to it.

PRAYER: with YOU, we can do all things.

THOT: a believer is either full in or not.  Guided by God’s word, they wisely endure tough times, discipline, and times of want.  But they remain full of devotion, love, and God’s presence.

PRAYER: May YOUR redeeming work be powerful this coming weekend.

Luke 14:11 (GW) 11  Those who honor themselves will be humbled, but people who humble themselves will be honored.”

PRAYER: I can do that.

Luke 14:12-14 (GW) 12  Then he told the man who had invited him, “When you invite people for lunch or dinner, don't invite only your friends, family, other relatives, or rich neighbors. Otherwise, they will return the favor. 13  Instead, when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the handicapped, the lame, and the blind. 14  Then you will be blessed because they don't have any way to pay you back. You will be paid back when those who have God's approval come back to life.”

PRAYER: I will look for opportunities to invite people.

1 Timothy 3:2-4,8-9 (GW) 2  A bishop must have a good reputation. He must have only one wife, be sober, use good judgment, be respectable, be hospitable, and be able to teach. 3  He must not drink excessively or be a violent person, but he must be gentle. He must not be quarrelsome or love money. 4  He must manage his own family well. His children should respectfully obey him.  8  Deacons must also be of good character. They must not be two-faced or addicted to alcohol. They must not use shameful ways to make money. 9  They must have clear consciences about possessing the mystery of the Christian faith.

PRAYER: Help us to raise the bar on leadership in our church.  We need people to lead us who clearly represent YOUR values.

Proverbs 4:7,11-13 (GW) 7  The beginning of wisdom is to acquire wisdom. Acquire understanding with all that you have. 11  I have taught you the way of wisdom. I have guided you along decent paths. 12  When you walk, your stride will not be hampered. Even if you run, you will not stumble. 13  Cling to discipline. Do not relax your grip on it. Keep it because it is your life.

PRAYER: Word and discipline, got it.

Proverbs 4:18 (GW) 18  But the path of righteous people is like the light of dawn that becomes brighter and brighter until it reaches midday.

PRAYER: May all YOUR believers shine brighter and brighter.

Proverbs 4:24 (GW) 24  Remove dishonesty from your mouth. Put deceptive speech far away from your lips.

PRAYER: I make a covenant with my mouth to speak words of life and truth.

Proverbs 4:25-26 (GW) 25  Let your eyes look straight ahead and your sight be focused in front of you. 26  Carefully walk a straight path, and all your ways will be secure.

PRAYER: Help me get and stay more focused.

Ezra 6:22 (GW) 22  So for seven days they celebrated the Festival of Unleavened Bread because the LORD had made them joyful. The LORD had made the king of Assyria change his mind so that he supported the people in their work on the temple of God, the God of Israel.

NOTE: Sometimes we get favor from unbelievers and civil authorities.

PRAYER: With or without their favor, I will serve YOU.

THOT: Real Jesus followers must continue in their spiritual pilgrimage to shine brighter and brighter in every aspect of their lives.

NOTE: these weren’t bad things, but if they take priority over God – then this is idolatry.

PRAYER: Forgive me for the times I’ve let my life, my stuff, and my goals take precedence over YOUR stuff.

Luke 14:21 (GW) 21  “…. Then the master of the house became angry. He told his servant, ‘Run to every street and alley in the city! Bring back the poor, the handicapped, the blind, and the lame.'

PRAYER: Help our church to reach the needy, the less wanted segment of society.

Luke 14:23 (GW) 23  “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go to the roads and paths! Urge the people to come to my house. I want it to be full.

PRAYER: I want it full too,  help all of us do a better job of filling the place up.

1 Timothy 3:12-13 (GW) 12  A deacon must have only one wife. Deacons must manage their children and their families well. 13  Those deacons who serve well gain an excellent reputation and will have confidence as a result of their faith in Christ Jesus.

PRAYER: May deacons and all followers mature to be people of character, hard work, and spiritually strong.

1 Timothy 3:15 (GW) 15  in case I'm delayed. I want you to know how people who are members of God's family must live. God's family is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

PRAYER: Teach us this weekend as a community to be that foundation of truth to the culture around us.

Proverbs 5:3,8-9 (GW) 3  The lips of an adulterous woman drip with honey. Her kiss is smoother than oil, …. 8  Stay far away from her. Do not even go near her door. 9  … you will surrender your reputation to others and {the rest of} your years to some cruel person,

PRAYER: I’ll make wiser choices with YOUR help.

Proverbs 5:22 (GW) 22  A wicked person will be trapped by his own wrongs, and he will be caught in the ropes of his own sin.

PRAYER: I’ve proven this one.  Thank YOU for YOUR mercy and grace.

Proverbs 5:23 (GW) 23  He will die for his lack of discipline and stumble around because of his great stupidity.

PRAYER: And I’m familiar with this too!  I will live a more disciplined life with YOUR help.

Ezra 7:10 (GW) 10  Ezra was determined to study the LORD'S Teachings, live by them, and teach their rules and regulations in Israel.

PRAYER: I will also study YOUR Word, live YOUR Word, and spread YOUR Word.

Ezra 7:27-28 (GW) 27  {I, Ezra, said:} Thanks be to the LORD God of our ancestors. He put this into the king's mind to make the LORD'S temple in Jerusalem beautiful. 28  He made the king, his advisers, and all the king's powerful officials treat me kindly. I was encouraged because the LORD my God was guiding me. So I gathered leaders in Israel to go with me.

PRAYER: I love it when YOU not only guide me, but when YOU so graciously open doors for me.  I do appreciate all those moments.

THOT: a Jesus follower is a “no excuse” hard-working, Word guided, person who values discipline.
