MONDAY 6/12/2017

Read: Luke 14:25-35, 1 Tim 4, Prov 6, Ezra 8

Luke 14:26 (GW) 26  “If people come to me and are not ready to abandon their fathers, mothers, wives, children, brothers, and sisters, as well as their own lives, they cannot be my disciples.

PRAYER: First, in relationships, I place YOU as my highest priority (yes, even over my family).

Luke 14:27 (GW) 27  So those who do not carry their crosses and follow me cannot be my disciples.

PRAYER: Secondly, I will live a sacrificial life of obedience to YOUR will.

Luke 14:28 (GW) 28  “Suppose you want to build a tower. You would first sit down and figure out what it costs. Then you would see if you have enough money to finish it.

PRAYER: Third, I have considered the ‘cost’ of following YOU.  I’m in!!!

Luke 14:33 (GW) 33  In the same way, none of you can be my disciples unless you give up everything.

PRAYER: Fourth, I’m all in.  Everything I have is YOUR’s. It kinda really was anyway, wasn’t it.

Luke 14:34-35 (GW) 34  “Salt is good. But if salt loses its taste, how will you restore its flavor? 35  It's not any good for the ground or for the manure pile. People throw it away. “Let the person who has ears listen!”

PRAYER: I will live passionately and obviously for YOU.  I hope not to lose any spiritual steam along the way.  May YOU be clearly glorified in me.

1 Timothy 4:1-2,7 (GW) 1  The Spirit says clearly that in later times some believers will desert the Christian faith. They will follow spirits that deceive, and they will believe the teachings of demons. 2  These people will speak lies disguised as truth. Their consciences have been scarred as if branded by a red-hot iron. … 7  Don't have anything to do with godless myths that old women like to tell. Rather, train yourself to live a godly life.

PRAYER: YOUR Word will keep me straight.

1 Timothy 4:6 (GW) 6  You are a good servant of Christ Jesus when you point these things out to our brothers and sisters. Then you will be nourished by the words of the Christian faith and the excellent teachings which you have followed closely.

PRAYER: I will speak YOUR Words to my brothers and sisters.

1 Timothy 4:8,10 (GW) 8  Training the body helps a little, but godly living helps in every way. Godly living has the promise of life now and in the world to come. … 10  Certainly, we work hard and struggle to live a godly life, because we place our confidence in the living God. He is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

PRAYER: I know I’m saved by grace, but I intend to live like I appreciate it.

1 Timothy 4:12,14-15 (GW) 12  Don't let anyone look down on you for being young. Instead, make your speech, behavior, love, faith, and purity an example for other believers. … 14  Don't neglect the gift which you received through prophecy when the spiritual leaders placed their hands on you {to ordain you}. 15  Practice these things. Devote your life to them so that everyone can see your progress.

PRAYER: No more excuses, I’m going to live vibrantly for YOU.  Help me to stay practiced and devoted in such a way my faith is clear to all.

Proverbs 6:6 (GW) 6  Consider the ant, you lazy bum. Watch its ways, and become wise.

PRAYER: I can be more industrious in my walk.

Proverbs 6:10-11 (GW) 10  “Just a little sleep, just a little slumber, just a little nap.” 11  Then your poverty will come {to you} like a drifter, and your need will come {to you} like a bandit.

PRAYER: Help me to stay alert and productive.

Proverbs 6:16-19 (GW) 16  There are six things that the LORD hates, even seven that are disgusting to him: 17  arrogant eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill innocent people, 18  a mind devising wicked plans, feet that are quick to do wrong, 19  a dishonest witness spitting out lies, and a person who spreads conflict among relatives.

PRAYER: I will unite not divide, plan in truth, live in truth, and tell the truth, I will put life in others, and encourage them to do the same.

Proverbs 6:20-23 (GW) 20  My son, obey the command of your father, and do not disregard the teachings of your mother. 21  Fasten them on your heart forever. Hang them around your neck. 22  When you walk around, they will lead you. When you lie down, they will watch over you. When you wake up, they will talk to you 23  because the command is a lamp, the teachings are a light, and the warnings from discipline are the path of life

PRAYER: Thank YOU for YOUR daily Word to me.

Ezra 8:22-23 (GW) 22  ….We had already told the king, “Our God works things out for the good of everyone who dedicates his life to serving him, but his power and his anger oppose everyone who abandons him.” 23  So we fasted and asked our God for a safe journey, and he answered our prayer.

PRAYER: I choose to serve YOU.

THOT: Jesus followers, immersed in God’s Word, are fully devoted, easily distinguishable from people who are living for the world.

Read: Luke 15:1-10, 1 Tim 5:1-15, Prov 7, Ezra 9

Luke 15:1-2 (GW) 1   All the tax collectors and sinners came to listen to Jesus. 2  But the Pharisees and the scribes complained, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”

Luke 15:7,10 (GW) 7  I can guarantee that there will be more happiness in heaven over one person who turns to God and changes the way he thinks and acts than over 99 people who already have turned to God and have his approval.”… 10  So I can guarantee that God's angels are happy about one person who turns to God and changes the way he thinks and acts.”

1 Timothy 5:8 (GW) 8  If anyone doesn't take care of his own relatives, especially his immediate family, he has denied the Christian faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

PRAYER: I am responsible for my relatives, but I am open to caring for those who are not.

1 Timothy 5:11 (GW) 11  … their natural desires become stronger than their devotion to Christ, ….

PRAYER: That’s always a problem isn’t it?!!

1 Timothy 5:13 (GW) 13  At the same time, they learn to go around from house to house since they have nothing else to do. Not only this, but they also gossip and get involved in other people's business, saying things they shouldn't say.

PRAYER: I will be a body that keeps busy not a busy-body.

Proverbs 7:1-3 (GW) 1  My son, pay attention to my words. Treasure my commands that are within you. 2  Obey my commands so that you may live. Follow my teachings just as you protect the pupil of your eye. 3  Tie them on your fingers. Write them on the tablet of your heart.

PRAYER: My eyes have wandered. May they primarily focus on YOUR Word and things or actions that fulfill YOUR Word.

Ezra 9:9 (GW) 9  We are slaves, but our God hasn't abandoned us in our slavery. Instead, he has made the kings of Persia treat us kindly. He did this to give us an opportunity to rebuild our God's temple and restore its ruins and to give us a protective wall in Judah and Jerusalem.

PRAYER: Forgive my complaining about life.  YOU are and always will be there for me, even in the tough times.

Ezra 9:11 (GW) 11  The commandments you gave us through your servants the prophets, said, ‘The land you are going to take possession of has been polluted by its perverted people and by their disgusting practices that have filled it with wickedness from one end to another.

PRAYER: Help the church to remain clean and clear of cultural influences that detract us from YOUR Word and Will.

THOT: Jesus followers seek and love sinners but not so they can stay that way.  Empowered by the Word, Christians live and share, and sinners repent and change for the better.

PRAYER: I will try to be welcoming and compassionate to those who have lost their way.

1 Timothy 5:17-18 (GW) 17  Give double honor to spiritual leaders who handle their duties well. This is especially true if they work hard at teaching the word {of God}. 18  After all, Scripture says, “Never muzzle an ox when it is threshing grain,” and “The worker deserves his pay.”

PRAYER: May the church recognize and reward hard work.

Separate yourselves from the people of this land and from your foreign wives.”

PRAYER: I am sorry for my unfaithfulness to YOU, I confess that.  But help me to let go of those things and relationships that are not healthy for me.

THOT: Sometimes a brother gets lost along the way.  He must still confess it and repent of it.  And the faithful must be understanding without being compromising of our standards.

PRAYER: I will try to be more generous to my friends, and more invested in making new friends with the un-churched (unsaved).

1 Timothy 6:4-5 (GW) 4  is a conceited person. He shows that he doesn't understand anything. Rather, he has an unhealthy desire to argue and quarrel about words. This produces jealousy, rivalry, cursing, suspicion, 5  and conflict between people whose corrupt minds have been robbed of the truth. They think that a godly life is a way to make a profit.

They are trapped by many stupid and harmful desires which drown them in destruction and ruin. 10  Certainly, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people who have set their hearts on getting rich have wandered away from the Christian faith and have caused themselves a lot of grief.

Nehemiah 1:6,8-9 (GW) 6  … I confess the sins that we Israelites have committed against you as well as the sins that my father's family and I have committed. …. 8  Please remember what you told us …. 9  But if you return to me and continue to obey my commandments, though your people may be driven to the most distant point on the horizon, I will come and get you from there and bring you to the place where I chose to put my name.'

PRAYER: I ask YOUR forgiveness for the sins of our nation, our church, my family, and I confess to YOU my sins.  Forgive, cleanse us, help us get back on YOUR path.

Nehemiah 2:18,20 (GW) 18  Then I told them that my God had been guiding me and what the king had told me. PRAYER: Help us to repair the broken walls and gates of YOUR Holy Church.  Help us to come together to rebuild YOUR church to be an effective even consuming light in our community.
