Read: Luke 18:9-17, 2 Tim 3:10-17, Prov 13:1-12, Neh 10

Luke 18:11-13 (GW) 11  The Pharisee stood up and prayed, ‘God, I thank you that I'm not like other people! … I'm not even like this tax collector. 12  I fast twice a week, and I give you a tenth of my entire income.' 13  “But the tax collector was standing at a distance. He wouldn't even look up to heaven. Instead, he became very upset, and he said, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!'

PRAYER:   clean us from any leftover spiritual superiority.  May we love unconditionally.

Luke 18:14 (GW) 14  “I can guarantee that this tax collector went home with God's approval, but the Pharisee didn't. Everyone who honors himself will be humbled, but the person who humbles himself will be honored.”

PRAYER: Honesty makes it easier to be humble, doesn’t it?!!!  Thank YOU for making a sinner like be to feel loved and wanted.

Luke 18:16-17 (GW) 16  But Jesus called the infants to him and said, “Don't stop the children from coming to me! Children like these are part of the kingdom of God. 17  I can guarantee this truth: Whoever doesn't receive the kingdom of God as a little child receives it will never enter it.”

PRAYER: Bless our children’s ministry, but also may all young and old come with innocent curiosity, eager to understand, and blind trust in YOUR Word.

2 Timothy 3:12 (GW) 12  Those who try to live a godly life because they believe in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

PRAYER: I am prepared.  I choose YOU, whatever the cost.

2 Timothy 3:14 (GW) 14  However, continue in what you have learned and found to be true. You know who your teachers were.

PRAYER: I will stick to YOUR Word.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (GW) 16  Every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God's approval. 17  They equip God's servants so that they are completely prepared to do good things.

PRAYER: May YOUR Living Word help me to be a better person and to help others be better as well.

Proverbs 13:4 (GW) 4  A lazy person craves food and there is none, but the appetite of hard-working people is satisfied.

PRAYER: I will be a hard worker.

Proverbs 13:9 (GW) 9  The light of righteous people beams brightly, but the lamp of wicked people will be snuffed out.

PRAYER: May my life reflect YOUR glory with increasing intensity.

Proverbs 13:10 (GW) 10  Arrogance produces only quarreling, but those who take advice gain wisdom.

PRAYER: Help me to be humble enough to hear others.

Proverbs 13:12 (GW) 12  Delayed hope makes one sick at heart, but a fulfilled longing is a tree of life.

PRAYER: delayed gratification isn’t a bad thing, is it?!!!

Nehemiah 10:28-29 (GW) 28  The rest of the people took an oath. …all who had separated themselves from the inhabitants of the land for the sake of God's Teachings. …. 29  …, in binding themselves with a curse and an oath to follow God's teachings ….They also bound themselves to follow all the commandments, rules, and regulations of the LORD our Lord.

PRAYER: I will not be a selective reader.  I accept all of YOUR counsel.

Nehemiah 10:39 (GW) 39  …. We won't neglect our God's temple.

PRAYER: I know it’s not really YOUR house where YOU are contained.  But it is YOUR house.  May we care for it as if YOU really were contained there.

THOT: Jesus believers are marked by humility and obedience.  Their lives positively influence those around them.

Read: Luke 18:18-30, 2 Tim 4, Prov 13:13-25, Neh 11

Luke 18:22-25 (GW) 22  When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still need one thing. Sell everything you have. Distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then follow me!” 23  When the official heard this, he became sad, because he was very rich. 24  Jesus watched him and said, “How hard it is for rich people to enter the kingdom of God! 25  Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”

PRAYER: Wealth certainly has an unholy hold on us, doesn’t it?!!!

Luke 18:28-30 (GW) 28  Then Peter said, “We've left everything to follow you.” 29  Jesus said to them, “I can guarantee this truth: Anyone who gave up his home, wife, brothers, parents, or children because of the kingdom of God 30  will certainly receive many times as much in this life and will receive eternal life in the world to come.”

PRAYER: I surrender all I have to YOU.  I want to be a fully committed follower.   Help me to reach all my neighbors who are holding so tightly to their stuff, while missing a glorious relationship with YOU.

2 Timothy 4:2 (GW) 2  Be ready to spread the word whether or not the time is right. Point out errors, warn people, and encourage them. Be very patient when you teach.

PRAYER: I will love enough to share the good and the bad, but always graciously and patiently.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 (GW) 3  A time will come when people will not listen to accurate teachings. Instead, they will follow their own desires and surround themselves with teachers who tell them what they want to hear. 4  People will refuse to listen to the truth and turn to myths.

PRAYER: We are there.  May our church, YOUR church, stay true to YOUR Word.

2 Timothy 4:5 (GW) 5  But you must keep a clear head in everything. Endure suffering. Do the work of a missionary. Devote yourself completely to your work.

PRAYER: Devoted, enduring, and hard working in mission. Got it!  Bless my mission field at work, at home, in in my neighborhood.

2 Timothy 4:7 (GW) 7  I have fought the good fight. I have completed the race. I have kept the faith.

Proverbs 13:18 (GW) 18  Poverty and shame come to a person who ignores discipline, but whoever pays attention to constructive criticism will be honored.

PRAYER: May I be humble enough to receive those tough words when they come.

Proverbs 13:20 (GW) 20  Whoever walks with wise people will be wise, but whoever associates with fools will suffer.

PRAYER: Help me to find people that make me a better person, not people who just agree with me.

Proverbs 13:24 (GW) 24  Whoever refuses to spank his son hates him, but whoever loves his son disciplines him from early on.

PRAYER: Giving and receiving discipline is hard.  So give me enough love to endure it.

Nehemiah 11:22-23 (GW) 22  … the singers in charge of worship in God's temple. 23  They were under orders from the king, orders that determined which duties they should perform day by day.

PRAYER: Well it’s YOUR house, and YOU are the King of Kings.  May YOU be blessed this next weekend by our worship.  May it be sincere glorifying to YOU.

THOT: The Jesus follower is “all in”, hardworking, and enduring. They know the Word and use it to encourage, exhort, and challenge others.  Love drive them to do, to act, and to speak.

Read: Luke 18:31-43, Titus 1:1-9, Prov 14:1-18, Neh 12

Luke 18:32-34 (GW) 32  He will be handed over to foreigners. They will make fun of him, insult him, spit on him, 33  whip him, and kill him. But on the third day he will come back to life.” 34  But they didn't understand any of this. What he said was a mystery to them, and they didn't know what he meant.

PRAYER: How many times Have I heard YOUR Word but it’s like YOUR speaking Greek to me,  or it’s in one ear and out the other.  Help me to hear YOU better.

Luke 18:41 (GW) 41  “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said, “Lord, I want to see again.

PRAYER: That’s it!  I want to see and hear better.

Titus 1:6-8 (GW) 6  A spiritual leader must have a good reputation. He must have only one wife and have children who are believers. His children shouldn't be known for having wild lifestyles or being rebellious. 7  Because a bishop is a supervisor appointed by God, he must have a good reputation. He must not be a stubborn or irritable person. He must not drink too much or be a violent person. He must not use shameful ways to make money. 8  Instead, he must be hospitable, love what is good, use good judgment, be fair and moral, and have self-control.

PRAYER: May the church not settle for anything less in terms of leadership.  We’re not looking for perfect here, just a good reflection of YOUR Holy values.

Proverbs 14:12 (GW) 12  There is a way that seems right to a person, but eventually it ends in death.

QUOTE:

Proverbs 14:14 (GW) 14  A heart that turns {from God} becomes bored with its own ways, but a good person is satisfied with God's ways.

PRAYER: I have gained and accumulated things of this world only to want more.  But in YOU I am satisfied.

Proverbs 14:17 (GW) 17  A short-tempered person acts stupidly, ….

PRAYER: Been there, done that.

Nehemiah 12:43 (GW) 43  That day they offered many sacrifices and rejoiced because God had given them reason to rejoice. The women and children rejoiced as well. The sound of rejoicing in Jerusalem could be heard from far away.

PRAYER: May we, YOUR people, literally be for the praise of YOUR glory.  May we be so loud and clear about our love for YOU, all our neighbors sit up and take notice.

THOT: We may not always measure up to God’s standards, yet He remains gracious without lowering His standards.

Read: Luke 19:1-10, Titus 1:10-16, Prov 14:19-35, Neh 13

Luke 19:5-7 (GW) 5  When Jesus came to the tree, he looked up and said, “Zacchaeus, come down! I must stay at your house today.” …. 7  But the people who saw this began to express disapproval. They said, “He went to be the guest of a sinner.”

PRAYER: May our church welcome opportunities to connect with sinners

Luke 19:8-9 (GW) 8  {Later, at dinner,} Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Lord, I'll give half of my property to the poor. I'll pay four times as much as I owe to those I have cheated in any way.” 9  Then Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “You and your family have been saved today. You've shown that you, too, are one of Abraham's descendants.”

PRAYER: I hope to prove by actions what I believe in my heart.

Luke 19:10 (GW) 10  Indeed, the Son of Man has come to seek and to save people who are lost.”

PRAYER: Open my eyes to see witnessing opportunities.

Titus 1:13 (GW) 13  …, sharply correct believers so that they continue to have faith that is alive and well.

PRAYER: Help me to love other believers enough to help them back to YOUR straight and narrow path.

Titus 1:16 (GW) 16  They claim to know God, but they deny him by what they do. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit to do anything good.

PRAYER: May my actions bear witness to my faith.

Proverbs 14:23 (GW) 23  In hard work there is always something gained, but idle talk leads only to poverty.

PRAYER: Less talk, more action. Got it!

Proverbs 14:27 (GW) 27  The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life to turn {one} away from the grasp of death.

PRAYER: I know I don’t always give YOU the respect YOU deserve, but when I do – life is good!

Proverbs 14:30 (GW) 30  A tranquil heart makes for a healthy body, but jealousy is {like} bone cancer.

PRAYER: May I not only be a peace, may I be a peace maker.

Proverbs 14:34 (GW) 34  Righteousness lifts up a nation, but sin is a disgrace in any society.

PRAYER: May the church in America shine brighter and brighter as a beacon of hope to our nation.

Nehemiah 13:2 (GW) 2  (After all, they didn't welcome the Israelites with food and water. Instead, they hired Balaam to curse the Israelites. But our God turned the curse into a blessing.)

PRAYER: That’s what YOU do.  I don’t know why I ever get upset when things go wrong. 

Nehemiah 13:14 (GW) 14  {Nehemiah prayed,} “Remember me for what I have done, my God, and don't wipe out the good things that I have done for your temple and for the worship that is held there.”

PRAYER: I hope my actions are pleasing to YOU.

Nehemiah 13:17,22 (GW) 17  I reprimanded the nobles of Judah and asked them, “What is this evil thing you're doing? How dare you treat the day of worship as unholy!  22  Then I told the Levites to cleanse themselves and guard the gates to keep the day of worship holy. {Nehemiah prayed,} “Remember me also for this, my God, and spare me, since you are very kind.”

PRAYER: May we all seek to keep our Sabbath worship Holy and pleasing to YOU.

THOT: Believers don’t just get sinners to come, they inspire them to change (by God’s gracious hand) for the better.   Though saved by grace they exhibit fruit in their generosity, service, studies, and care.

Read: Luke 19:11-27, Titus 2:1-10, Prov 15:1-17, Esth 1

Luke 19:23-26 (GW) 23  Then why didn't you put my money in the bank? When I came back, I could have collected it with interest.' 24  The king told his men, ‘Take his coin away, and give it to the man who has ten.' 25  “They replied, ‘Sir, he already has ten coins.' 26  “‘I can guarantee that everyone who has something will be given more. But everything will be taken away from those who don't have much.

PRAYER: No excuses, I will be productive for YOU.

Titus 2:3-7 (GW) 3  … live their lives in a way that shows they are dedicated to God. Tell them not to be gossips or addicted to alcohol, but to be examples of virtue. 4  … show love to their husbands and children, 5  to use good judgment, and to be morally pure. Also, tell them to teach young women to be homemakers, to be kind, and to place themselves under their husbands' authority. Then no one can speak evil of God's word. 6  Encourage young men to use good judgment. 7  Always set an example by doing good things. When you teach, be an example of moral purity and dignity.

PRAYER: I will live a positive and supportive life, serving my family, friends, and whomever.

Proverbs 15:1,4 (GW) 1  A gentle answer turns away rage, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 4  A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue breaks the spirit.

PRAYER: I will use my words to heal not hurt.

Proverbs 15:3 (GW) 3  The eyes of the LORD are everywhere. They watch evil people and good people.

PRAYER: I know, I know!

Proverbs 15:13 (GW) 13  A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, but with a heartache comes depression.

PRAYER: I can probably smile more.  YOU are my joy.

Esther 1:11-12 (GW) 11  …. He wanted to show the people, especially the officials, her beauty, because she was very attractive. 12  But Queen Vashti refused the king's command that the eunuchs delivered to her. As a result, the king became very angry, and his rage burned inside him.

PRAYER: I know that YOU, for whatever reason, find me beautiful in YOUR eyes.  I love to show me and all YOUR creation off.  May I humbly reflect YOUR glory and forgive me the times I’ve refused to shine for YOU.

THOT: Jesus followers are fruitful in action and word
