MONDAY 7/24/2017 (09-11) #2037

Read: Luke 22:47-53, Heb 7:1-10, Prov 23:19-35, Isa 29-30

Luke 22:49-51 (GW) 49  The men who were with Jesus saw what was going to happen. So they asked him, “Lord, should we use our swords to fight?” 50  One of the disciples cut off the right ear of the chief priest's servant. 51  But Jesus said, “Stop! That's enough of this.” Then he touched the servant's ear and healed him.

PRAYER: Give me YOUR heart for the lost, even those who threaten us.

Hebrews 7:2,5 (GW) 2  Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything he had captured. In the first place, Melchizedek's name means king of righteousness. He is also called king of Salem (which means king of peace). … 5  Moses' Teachings say that members of the tribe of Levi who become priests must receive a tenth of everything from the people. The priests collect it from their own people, Abraham's descendants.

NOTE: this was before tithing became a standard.  So it is a heartfelt gift and not an obligation.

PRAYER: Lord, I give, may be because of the law, but I really want to be a person of appreciation.  I recognize everything I have is YOUR’s so may my humble gifts be a token of my appreciation.

Proverbs 23:20-21 (GW) 20  Do not associate with those who drink too much wine, with those who eat too much meat, 21  because both a drunk and a glutton will become poor. Drowsiness will dress a person in rags.

PRAYER: Unless I’m witnessing them, I’ll keep better company.

Isaiah 29:13 (GW) 13  The Lord says, “These people worship me with their mouths and honor me with their lips. But their hearts are far from me, and their worship of me is {based on} rules made by humans.

PRAYER: YOU deserve better all week, not to mention our weekend services.

Isaiah 29:18-19 (GW) 18  When that day comes, the deaf will hear the words written in the book. The blind will see out of their gloom and darkness. 19  Humble people again will find joy in the LORD. The poorest of people will find joy in the Holy One of Israel.

PRAYER: Bring us those who could not see nor hear, bring us the poorest and the most humbled – that they might see YOU in us.

Isaiah 30:10 (GW) 10  They say to the seers, ‘Don't see {the future}.' They say to those who have visions, ‘Don't have visions that tell us what is right. Tell us what we want to hear. See illusions.

PRAYER: No, No, No.  We need truth, YOUR Word and directions.

Isaiah 30:15 (GW) 15  This is what the Almighty LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: You can be saved by returning to me. You can have rest. You can be strong by being quiet and by trusting me. But you don't want that.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for second chances.

THOT: Real Christ followers aren’t necessarily rich nor well to do – yet they are generous with what little they do have.  Empowered by God’s Word they become strong, joy filled, rested, and yet humble.

Luke 22:61 (GW) 61  Then the Lord turned and looked directly at Peter. Peter remembered what the Lord had said: “Before a rooster crows today, you will say three times that you don't know me.”

PRAYER: Thank YOU for picking Peter.  This guy I can relate to.  Forgive me for the times I’ve abandoned YOU.

Hebrews 7:24-25 (GW) 24  But Jesus lives forever, so he serves as a priest forever. 25  That is why he is always able to save those who come to God through him. He can do this because he always lives and intercedes for them.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for standing in the gap for me.

Hebrews 7:27 (GW) 27  We need a priest who doesn't have to bring daily sacrifices as those chief priests did. First they brought sacrifices for their own sins, and then they brought sacrifices for the sins of the people. Jesus brought the sacrifice for the sins of the people once and for all when he sacrificed himself.

PRAYER: And again, I sincerely appreciate YOUR sacrifice for us (for me).

Proverbs 24:3 (GW) 3  With wisdom a house is built. With understanding it is established.

PRAYER: So I appreciate YOU educating me.

PRAYER: Help me to keep my mind working soundly.

Isaiah 31:1 (GW) 1  How horrible it will be for those who go to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who depend on many chariots, who depend on very strong war horses. They don't look to the Holy One of Israel. They don't seek the LORD.

PRAYER: My strength is not in my own hands nor possession.  YOU are my strength.

Isaiah 32:8 (GW) 8  But honorable people act honorably and stand firm for what is honorable.

PRAYER: Help clean me up from the inside out.

Luke 22:70 (GW) 70  Then all of them said, “So you're the Son of God?” Jesus answered them, “You're right to say that I am.”

Hebrews 8:5 (GW) 5  They serve at a place that is a pattern, a shadow, of what is in heaven. When Moses was about to make the tent, God warned him, “Be sure to make everything based on the plan I showed you on the mountain.”

PRAYER: I realize that the place we worship is just a building, a very teeny representation of YOUR house.  We are grateful that YOU still honor us with YOUR presence there.

Proverbs 24:26 (GW) 26  Giving a straight answer is {like} a kiss on the lips.

PRAYER: I will try to give honest and straight forward answers, when asked.

Proverbs 24:29 (GW) 29  Do not say, “I'll treat him as he treated me. I'll pay him back for what he has done to me.”

PRAYER: So an eye for an eye is not always the best answer, is it?!!

PRAYER: I will be a hard worker today.

Isaiah 34:16-17 (GW) 16  Search the LORD'S book, and read it. Not one of these animals will be missing. Not one will lack a mate, because the LORD has commanded it, and his Spirit will gather them together. 17  He is the one who throws dice for them, and his hand divides up {the land} for them with a measuring line. They will possess it permanently and live there for generations.

PRAYER: Guide me and direct me.

Isaiah 35:1-2 (GW) 1  The desert and the dry land will be glad, and the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. 2  Like a lily the land will blossom. It will rejoice and sing with joy. PRAYER: For all the dry times, I know that good times are coming.  May we shine for YOU good times and bad.

Isaiah 35:3 (GW) 3  Strengthen limp hands. Steady weak knees.

PRAYER: May our church be a place where broken and weary people can come and find YOU.

Isaiah 35:5-6 (GW) 5  Then the eyes of the blind will be opened, and the ears of the deaf will be unplugged. 6  Then those who are lame will leap like deer, and those who cannot speak will shout for joy. Water will gush out into the desert, and streams will gush out into the wilderness.

PRAYER: May our church demonstrate the dramatic transformation that only YOU can bring.

Isaiah 35:8-10 (GW) 8  A highway will be there, a roadway. It will be called the Holy Road. Sinners won't travel on it. It will be for those who walk on it. Godless fools won't wander {onto it}. 9  Lions won't be there. Wild animals won't go on it. They won't be found there. But the people reclaimed {by the LORD} will walk {on it}. 10  The people ransomed by the LORD will return. They will come to Zion singing with joy. Everlasting happiness will be on their heads {as a crown}. They will be glad and joyful. They will have no sorrow or grief.

PRAYER: May our church, YOUR church, start gathering the redeemed and the ransomed for that holy walk of faith where joy and happiness are clearly evident.

THOT: While on the earth, we have glimpses of God’s glory, moments of delight, and outbreaks of positive transformation.  But hold fast to the “holy road” you are on even in the darker days.  It will be worth it.

PRAYER: Help me to control my tongue.

Isaiah 37:14-15 (GW) 14  Hezekiah took the letter from the messengers, read it, and went to the LORD'S temple. He spread it out in front of the LORD 15  and prayed to the LORD,

PRAYER: YOU need to be my first stop when I get distressing news.

Isaiah 38:17 (GW) 17  Now my bitter experience turns into peace. You have saved me and kept me from the rotting pit. You have thrown all my sins behind you.

PRAYER: YOU have the amazing ability to turn anything bad into good (including me).

THOT: A Jesus follower has got the disadvantage of being imperfect, yet the perfect Word of God can and does dwell in them.

Luke 23:23,25 (GW) 23  But the crowd pressured Pilate. They shouted that Jesus had to be crucified, and they finally won. 25  He freed Barabbas, who had been put in prison for rioting and murdering, because that's what they wanted. But he let them do what they wanted to Jesus.

PRAYER: I am so sorry!  Forgive us for sometimes trying to do what we want to do with YOU.

Hebrews 9:7 (GW) 7  But only the chief priest went into the second part of the tent. Once a year he entered and brought blood that he offered for himself and for the things that the people did wrong unintentionally.

PRAYER: Wha, I can be blamed for sins I didn’t mean to commit. OK!  Forgive me please.

Proverbs 25:16,28 (GW) 16  When you find honey, eat only as much as you need. Otherwise, you will have too much and vomit. 28  {Like} a city broken into {and} left without a wall, {so} is a person who lacks self-control.

His understanding is beyond reach. 29  He gives strength to those who grow tired and increases the strength of those who are weak. 30  Even young people grow tired and become weary, and young men will stumble and fall. 31  Yet, the strength of those who wait with hope in the LORD will be renewed. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and won't become weary. They will walk and won't grow tired.
