Luke 24:5-6 (GW) 5  The women were terrified and bowed to the ground. The men asked the women, “Why are you looking among the dead for the living one? 6  He's not here. He has been brought back to life! Remember what he told you while he was still in Galilee.

Hebrews 11:36-40 (GW) 36  Some were made fun of and whipped, and some were chained and put in prison. 37  Some were stoned to death, sawed in half, and killed with swords. Some wore the skins of sheep and goats. Some were poor, abused, and mistreated. 38  The world didn't deserve these good people. Some wandered around in deserts and mountains and lived in caves and holes in the ground. 39  All these people were known for their faith, but none of them received what God had promised. 40  God planned to give us something very special so that we would gain eternal life with them.

Break into shouts of joy, you women who never had birth pains. “There will be more children of women who have been deserted than there are children of married women,” says the LORD. 2  Expand the space of your tent. Stretch out the curtains of your tent, and don't hold back. Lengthen your tent ropes, and drive in the tent pegs. 3  You will spread out to the right and left. Your descendants will take over other nations, and they will resettle deserted cities. 11  “You suffering, comfortless, storm-ravaged city! I will rebuild your city with precious stones. I will reset your foundations with sapphires. 12  I will rebuild your towers with rubies, your gates with sparkling stones, and all your walls with precious stones.”

PRAYER: Rebuild, repair, renew please.

TUESDAY 8/8/2017 (09-22) #2052

Read: Luke 24:13-27, Heb 12:1-13, Prov 29:1-14, Isa 56-58

Luke 24:16,25 (GW) 16  Although they saw him, they didn't recognize him. … 25  Then Jesus said to them, “How foolish you are! You're so slow to believe everything the prophets said!

PRAYER: I have those foggy, slow to believe moments too.  Thank YOU for being so patient with me.

Luke 24:27 (GW) 27  Then he began with Moses' Teachings and the Prophets to explain to them what was said about him throughout the Scriptures.

PRAYER: As I read YOUR Word, continue to open my heart and eyes to what I need to receive.

Hebrews 12:1-2 (GW) 1  Since we are surrounded by so many examples {of faith}, we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially sin that distracts us. We must run the race that lies ahead of us and never give up. 2  We must focus on Jesus, the source and goal of our faith. He saw the joy ahead of him, so he endured death on the cross and ignored the disgrace it brought him. Then he received the highest position in heaven, the one next to the throne of God.

PRAYER: I will not quit. My eyes are on YOU.

Hebrews 12:4 (GW) 4  You struggle against sin, but your struggles haven't killed you.

PRAYER: Yep, I can do this.

Hebrews 12:5-7,10-11 (GW) 5  You have forgotten the encouraging words that God speaks to you as his children: “My child, pay attention when the Lord disciplines you. Don't give up when he corrects you. 6  The Lord disciplines everyone he loves. He severely disciplines everyone he accepts as his child.” 7  Endure your discipline. God corrects you as a father corrects his children. All children are disciplined by their fathers. … 10  For a short time our fathers disciplined us as they thought best. Yet, God disciplines us for our own good so that we can become holy like him. 11  We don't enjoy being disciplined. It always seems to cause more pain than joy. But later on, those who learn from that discipline have peace that comes from doing what is right.

PRAYER: I’m hanging on.  I want to be more like YOU, and I like how I feel about myself when I’ve get it right.

Proverbs 29:1 (GW) 1  A person who will not bend after many warnings will suddenly be broken beyond repair.

PRAYER: I humble myself.  Mold me and shape me, Lord.

Proverbs 29:7 (GW) 7  A righteous person knows the just cause of the poor. A wicked person does not understand this.

PRAYER: I will try to always act justly and help those in need.

Proverbs 29:11 (GW) 11  A fool expresses all his emotions, but a wise person controls them.

PRAYER: Help me to keep control of that.

Isaiah 56:3,5 (GW) 3  Foreigners who have joined the LORD should not say, “The LORD will separate us from his people.” Castrated men should not say, “We're only dead trees!”… 5  Inside my house and within my walls, I will give them something better than sons and daughters. I will give them a monument and a name. I will give them a permanent name that will not be forgotten.

PRAYER: YOUR love and grace extended to someone like me is amazing.

Isaiah 56:7 (GW) 7  Then I will bring them to my holy mountain and make them happy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be acceptable on my altar, because my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.

PRAYER: Happy in the House of Prayer.  Let’s go!   May this coming weekend’s worship be loaded with prayers that bless YOU.

Isaiah 57:13-14 (GW) 13  When you cry for help, let your collection of idols save you. A wind will carry them all away. A breath will take them away. But whoever trusts me will possess the land and inherit my holy mountain. 14  It will be said: Build a road! Build a road! Prepare the way! Remove every obstacle in the way of my people!”

PRAYER: Help us to clean up our lives, our church, and even our country.

Isaiah 57:15 (GW) 15  The High and Lofty One lives forever, and his name is holy. This is what he says: I live in a high and holy place. But I am with those who are crushed and humble. I will renew the spirit of those who are humble and the courage of those who are crushed.

PRAYER: Thank YOU, Lord.

Isaiah 57:18-19 (GW) 18  I've seen their {sinful} ways, but I'll heal them. I'll guide them and give them rest. I'll comfort them and their mourners. 19  I'll create praise on their lips: “Perfect peace to those both far and near.” I'll heal them,” says the LORD.

PRAYER: Thank YOU.  And may we shine a little brighter for YOU.

Isaiah 58:6-7 (GW) 6  This is the kind of fasting I have chosen: Loosen the chains of wickedness, untie the straps of the yoke, let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke. 7  Share your food with the hungry, take the poor and homeless into your house, and cover them with clothes when you see {them} naked. Don't refuse to help your relatives.

PRAYER: May I learn to be as generous as YOU.

Isaiah 58:8-12 (GW) 8  Then your light will break through like the dawn, and you will heal quickly. Your righteousness will go ahead of you, and the glory of the LORD will guard you from behind. 9  Then you will call, and the LORD will answer. You will cry for help, and he will say, “Here I am!” Get rid of that yoke. Don't point your finger and say wicked things. 10  If you give some of your own food to {feed} those who are hungry and to satisfy {the needs of} those who are humble, then your light will rise in the dark, and your darkness will become as bright as the noonday sun. 11  The LORD will continually guide you and satisfy you even in sun-baked places. He will strengthen your bones. You will become like a watered garden and like a spring whose water does not stop flowing. 12  Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the foundations of past generations. You will be called the Rebuilder of Broken Walls and the Restorer of Streets Where People Live.

PRAYER: That sounds awesome.  May YOUR role in our lives be obvious to everyone in our community.

THOT: sin is a distraction.  We need discipline, lots of prayer, a commitment to care for the needs of other, and perseverance.

PRAYER: Open my eyes today.

Luke 24:32 (GW) 32  They said to each other, “Weren't we excited when he talked with us on the road and opened up the meaning of the Scriptures for us?”

PRAYER: YOUR Word is enlivening, instructive, and life changing.  Thank YOU for letting me receive it.

PRAYER: Bitterness bad!!!  Kindness good!! Got it!

Hebrews 12:25 (GW) 25  Be careful that you do not refuse to listen when God speaks. Your ancestors didn't escape when they refused to listen to God, who warned them on earth. We certainly won't escape if we turn away from God, who warns us from heaven.

PRAYER: But in love, right?!!

Proverbs 29:23 (GW) 23  A person's pride will humiliate him, but a humble spirit gains honor.

PRAYER: Help me to be a humble servant to YOU and to others.

Isaiah 59:1-2 (GW) 1  The LORD is not too weak to save or his ear too deaf to hear. 2  But your wrongs have separated you from your God, and your sins have made him hide his face so that he doesn't hear you.

PRAYER: I’ve been here before and I didn’t like it.  I want to live my life in a way that honors YOU.

Isaiah 59:9,13 (GW) 9  That is why justice is far from us, and righteousness doesn't reach us. We hope for light, but we walk in darkness. We hope for brightness, but we walk in gloom. 13  We have rebelled and denied the LORD. We have turned away from our God. We have spoken about oppression and revolt. We have conceived and uttered lies in our hearts.

PRAYER: We’ve been bad.  We can speak better and do better.  Help us to be people of justice and righteousness.

Isaiah 59:21 (GW) 21  “This is my promise to them,” says the LORD. “My Spirit, who is on you, and my words that I put in your mouth will not leave you. They will be with your children and your grandchildren permanently,” says the LORD.

PRAYER: May the church arise and shine bright in these darkened days.

Isaiah 60:4-5,22 (GW) 4  “Look up, look around, and watch. All of your people assemble and come to you. Your sons come from far away. The wealth of the nations will come to you. 22  The smallest of them will become a family. The weakest of them will become a mighty nation. They will never be closed day or night so that people may bring you the wealth of nations, with their kings led as prisoners.

PRAYER: Help the church’s ‘old guard’ give way to the new leadership YOU will raise up among us.

Isaiah 61:1-3 (GW) 1  The Spirit of the Almighty LORD is with me because the LORD has anointed me to deliver good news to humble people. He has sent me to heal those who are brokenhearted, to announce that captives will be set free and prisoners will be released. 2  {He has sent me} to announce the year of the LORD'S good will and the day of our God's vengeance, to comfort all those who grieve. 3  {He has sent me} to provide for all those who grieve in Zion, to give them crowns instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of {tears of} grief, and clothes of praise instead of a spirit of weakness. They will be called Oaks of Righteousness, the Plantings of the LORD, so that he might display his glory.

PRAYER: Help all of us to reach the grieving, the tormented, the weakened.  We have Good News and YOU have the power to restore, heal, and encourage.

Isaiah 61:4-6 (GW) 4  They will rebuild the ancient ruins. They will restore the places destroyed long ago. They will renew the ruined cities, the places destroyed generations ago. 5  Foreigners will come forward and become shepherds for your flocks, and children of foreigners will work your fields and vineyards. 6  You will be called the priests of the LORD. You will be called the servants of our God. You will consume the wealth of the nations. You will boast in their splendor.

PRAYER: I look forward to the rebuilding of marriages, families, lives, and our church.  May everyone be open and excited about the new shepherds coming born out of the ministry of YOUR Word.

Isaiah 61:10 (GW) 10  I will find joy in the LORD. I will delight in my God. He has dressed me in the clothes of salvation. He has wrapped me in the robe of righteousness like a bridegroom with a priest's turban, like a bride with her jewels.

PRAYER: It is more than I deserve, Thank YOU!!!

THOT: The real church has its ups and downs, so words of encouragement and challenge to shine are great.  Amazing things can happen with a few humble hearts that want to reflect God’s glory and justice.

PRAYER: Lord, I’ve got to stop using the word “impossible” around YOU.

Raise a flag for the people! 11  The LORD has announced to the ends of the earth: “Tell my people Zion, ‘Your Savior is coming. His reward is with him, and the people he has won arrive ahead of him.'” 12  They will be called Holy People, Those Reclaimed by the LORD, and you will be called Sought After, a City Not Deserted.

Isaiah 63:7 (GW) 7  I will acknowledge the LORD'S acts of mercy, and {sing} the praises of the LORD, because of everything that the LORD has done for us. He has done many good things for the nation of Israel because of his compassion and his unlimited mercy.

PRAYER: I personally appreciate YOUR role in my life.

Isaiah 63:9 (GW) 9  In all their troubles he was troubled, and he was the Messenger who saved them. In his love and compassion he reclaimed them. He always held them and carried them in the past.

Isaiah 64:4 (GW) 4  No one has ever heard, no one has paid attention, and no one has seen any god except you. You help those who wait for you.

Hebrews 13:17 (GW) 17  Obey your leaders, and accept their authority. They take care of you because they are responsible for you. Obey them so that they may do this work joyfully and not complain about you. (Causing them to complain would not be to your advantage.)
