MONDAY 8/28/2017 (10-11) #2072

Read: John 4:1-14, Jam 5:7-12, Eccl 8, Jer 26-29

John 4:13-14 (GW) 13  Jesus answered her, “Everyone who drinks this water will become thirsty again. 14  But those who drink the water that I will give them will never become thirsty again. In fact, the water I will give them will become in them a spring that gushes up to eternal life.

PRAYER: May my life pour over in to other people’s life with YOUR flow of eternal life

James 5:7-8,10-11 (GW) 7  Brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord comes again. See how farmers wait for their precious crops to grow. They wait patiently for fall and spring rains. 8  You, too, must be patient. Don't give up hope. The Lord will soon be here. … 10  Brothers and sisters, follow the example of the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. They were patient when they suffered unjustly. 11  We consider those who endure to be blessed. You have heard about Job's endurance. You saw that the Lord ended Job's suffering because the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

PRAYER: I choose patience.  I will not quit.

James 5:9 (GW) 9  Brothers and sisters, stop complaining about each other, or you will be condemned. Realize that the judge is standing at the door.

PRAYER: I will build up not tear down.

Ecclesiastes 8:1 (GW) 1  Who is really wise? Who knows how to explain things? Wisdom makes one's face shine, and it changes one's grim look.

PRAYER: I certainly hope to shine for YOU.

Ecclesiastes 8:5-6 (GW) 5  Whoever obeys his commands will avoid trouble. The mind of a wise person will know the right time and the right way {to act}. 6  There is a right time and a right way {to act} in every situation. Yet, a terrible human tragedy hangs over people.

PRAYER: Give me wisdom to know what to say and do when.

Ecclesiastes 8:12 (GW) 12  A sinner may commit a hundred crimes and yet live a long life. Still, I know with certainty that it will go well for those who fear God, because they fear him.

PRAYER: You are my highest authority.

Jeremiah 26:13 (GW) 13  Now, change your ways and what you are doing, and listen to the LORD your God. Then the LORD will change his plan about the disaster that he intends to bring on you.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for the opportunity to repent.

Jeremiah 29:4-7 (GW) 4  This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says to all those who were taken captive from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5  Build houses, and live in them. Plant gardens, and eat what they produce. 6  Get married, and have sons and daughters. Find wives for your sons, and let your daughters get married so that they can have sons and daughters. Grow in number there; don't decrease. 7  Work for the good of the city where I've taken you as captives, and pray to the LORD for that city. When it prospers, you will also prosper.

PRAYER: I lift up this country to YOU, and I commit to working hard wherever YOU lead me.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 (GW) 11  I know the plans that I have for you, declares the LORD. They are plans for peace and not disaster, plans to give you a future filled with hope. 12  Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13  When you look for me, you will find me. When you wholeheartedly seek me, 14  I will let you find me, declares the LORD. I will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I've scattered you, declares the LORD. I will bring you back from the place where you are being held captive.

PRAYER: Thank YOU that there is a plan, and a good one for me. I will seek YOU wholeheartedly. Bring together those who’ve strayed, and rebuild YOUR church.

THOT: Jesus followers can shine and even prosper when surrounded by unbelievers.  They work hard, they shine bright, they pray continuously, and they remain obedient to God’s Word.

TUESDAY 8/29/2017 (10-12) #2073

Read: John 4:15-26, Jam 5:13-20, Eccl 9, Jer 30-31

John 4:23-24 (GW) 23  Indeed, the time is coming, and it is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. The Father is looking for people like that to worship him. 24  God is a spirit. Those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

PRAYER: May YOU get “spirit and truth” worship, especially this coming weekend.

John 4:26 (GW) 26  Jesus told her, “I am he, and I am speaking to you now.”

PRAYER: I sincerely appreciate that YOU talk right now!!!

James 5:13 (GW) 13  If any of you are having trouble, pray. If you are happy, sing psalms.

PRAYER: Good times or bad, YOU deserve our attention.

James 5:15 (GW) 15  (Prayers offered in faith will save those who are sick, and the Lord will cure them.) If you have sinned, you will be forgiven.

PRAYER: Heal me and forgive me for the frail human that I am.  Thank YOU for caring for imperfect me.

James 5:16 (GW) 16  So admit your sins to each other, and pray for each other so that you will be healed. Prayers offered by those who have God's approval are effective.

PRAYER: May the fellowship of saints grow in this place.

James 5:19-20 (GW) 19  My brothers and sisters, if one of you wanders from the truth, someone can bring that person back. 20  Realize that whoever brings a sinner back from the error of his ways will save him from death, and many sins will be forgiven.

PRAYER: We can always do better at this.  Give us such love that we’d explode if we didn’t go after the missing and the unexcused.

Ecclesiastes 9:3 (GW) 3  This is the tragedy of everything that happens under the sun: Everyone shares the same destiny. Moreover, the hearts of mortals are full of evil. Madness is in their hearts while they are still alive. After that, they join the dead.

PRAYER: Help me to reach those, who’ve not thought about the inevitability of death, with the gospel of grace.

Ecclesiastes 9:4,10 (GW) 4  But all who are among the living have hope, because a living dog is better than a dead lion.    … 10  Whatever presents itself for you to do, do it with {all} your might, because there is no work, planning, knowledge, or skill in the grave where you're going.

PRAYER: I will make the most of this little bit of time I have on earth.

Ecclesiastes 9:11 (GW) 11  I saw something else under the sun. The race isn't {won} by fast runners, or the battle by heroes. Wise people don't necessarily have food. Intelligent people don't necessarily have riches, and skilled people don't necessarily receive special treatment. But time and unpredictable events overtake all of them.

PRAYER: Yet YOU remain consistent and just.  I want to stand on YOU my rock.

Ecclesiastes 9:17 (GW) 17  One should pay more attention to calm words from wise people than shouting from a ruler of fools.

PRAYER: May I listen more and if I speak may it be calmly.

Jeremiah 30:18-19 (GW) 18  “This is what the LORD says: I'm going to bring the captives back to Jacob's tents and show compassion on their homes. Cities will be built on the ruins, and fortified palaces will be built in their rightful place. 19  The people who live there will sing songs of praise, and the sound of laughter will be heard from there. I'll make them numerous, and their number won't decrease. I'll bring them honor, and they won't be considered unimportant.

Jeremiah 31:4-5 (GW) 4  Once again I will build you up, and you will be rebuilt, my dear people Israel. Once again you will take your tambourines, and you will go dancing with happy people. 5  Once again you will plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria. Those who plant them will enjoy the fruit.

PRAYER: Rebuild upon our ruins, may we again be fruitful for YOU.  May joy be heard and seen throughout the community

Jeremiah 31:9,12-14 (GW) 9  They will cry as they return. They will pray as I bring them back. I will lead them beside streams on a level path where they will not stumble. I will be a Father to Israel, and Ephraim will be my firstborn. 12  They will come and shout for joy on top of Mount Zion. They will stream to it to enjoy the LORD'S blessings: fresh grain, new wine, and olive oil, lambs and calves. Their lives will be like well-watered gardens, and they will never suffer again. 13  Then young women will rejoice and dance along with young men and old men. I will turn their mourning into joy. I will comfort them. I will give them joy in place of their sorrow. 14  I will satisfy the priests with rich food. My people will be filled with my blessings,” declares the LORD.

PRAYER: Help our church to create and sustain spiritual stability.

Jeremiah 31:25 (GW) 25  I will give those who are weary all they need. I will refresh everyone who is filled with sorrow.”

PRAYER: Thank YOU for YOUR new mercies.

Jeremiah 31:30 (GW) 30  But each person will die for his own sin. Whoever eats sour grapes will have his own teeth set on edge.

Jeremiah 31:33 (GW) 33  “But this is the promise that I will make to Israel after those days,” declares the LORD: “I will put my teachings inside them, and I will write those teachings on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for YOUR Word and even wanting to be part of my life.  What a privilege.

Jeremiah 31:34 (GW) 34  No longer will each person teach his neighbors or his relatives by saying, ‘Know the LORD.' All of them, from the least important to the most important, will know me,” declares the LORD, “because I will forgive their wickedness and I will no longer hold their sins against them.”

PRAYER: Help us to reach the world with the message of YOUR mercy and grace.

THOT: Jesus is the rock, but the believer is still an imperfect follower.  We need each other’s prayers, counsel, exhortation, and love to make the journey. In the end God will build upon the ruins and restore the joy.

John 4:28-30,39,41 (GW) 28  Then the woman left her water jar and went back into the city. She told the people, 29  “Come with me, and meet a man who told me everything I've ever done. Could he be the Messiah?” 30  The people left the city and went to meet Jesus. … 39  Many Samaritans in that city believed in Jesus because of the woman who said, “He told me everything I've ever done.”… 41  Many more Samaritans believed because of what Jesus said.

1 Peter 1:6-7 (GW) 6  You are extremely happy about these things, even though you have to suffer different kinds of trouble for a little while now. 7  The purpose of these troubles is to test your faith as fire tests how genuine gold is. Your faith is more precious than gold, and by passing the test, it gives praise, glory, and honor to God. This will happen when Jesus Christ appears again.

PRAYER: No more complaining, just growing in faith.  Burn off the dross in my life, and may my life shine for YOU.

Ecclesiastes 10:4 (GW) 4  If a ruler becomes angry with you, don't resign your position. If you remain calm, you can make up for serious offenses.

PRAYER: I’ve done that.

Ecclesiastes 10:20 (GW) 20  Don't curse the king even in your thoughts, and don't curse rich people even in your bedroom. A bird may carry your words, or some winged creature may repeat what you say.

NOTE: thus “ a little birdie told me”!

PRAYER: Lord, help me to guard my mouth.

Jeremiah 32:17-19 (GW) 17  ‘Almighty LORD, you made heaven and earth by your great strength and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you. 18  You show mercy to thousands of generations. However, you punish children for the wickedness of their parents. You, God, are great and mighty. Your name is the LORD of Armies. 19  You make wise plans and do mighty things. You see everything the descendants of Adam do. You reward them for the way they live and for what they do.

PRAYER: Most merciful creator, wise and powerful are YOU. May my life and actions please YOU today.

Jeremiah 32:27 (GW) 27  “I am the LORD God of all humanity. Nothing is too hard for me.

PRAYER: I’ll try to remember that.

Jeremiah 32:38-39 (GW) 38  They will be my people, and I will be their God. 39  I will give them the same attitude and the same purpose so that they will fear me as long as they live. This will be for their own good and for the good of their children.

PRAYER: May the church be as one in YOUR mission for us in this world.

Jeremiah 32:40-41 (GW) 40  I will make an eternal promise to them that I will never stop blessing them. I will make them fear me so that they will never turn away from me. 41  I will enjoy blessing them. With all my heart and soul I will faithfully plant them in this land.

PRAYER: YOUR love and devotion to little teeny us is amazing.

Jeremiah 33:2-3 (GW) 2  “I made {the earth}, formed it, and set it in place. My name is the LORD. This is what the LORD says: 3  Call to me, and I will answer you. I will tell you great and mysterious things that you do not know.

Jeremiah 33:8-9 (GW) 8  I will cleanse them from all the sins that they have committed against me. I will forgive them for all the sins that they have committed against me and for rebelling against me. 9  Then Jerusalem will be my source of joy, praise, and honor. All the nations on earth will hear about all the blessings that I will give to Jerusalem. They will be afraid and tremble because of all the prosperity that I will provide for it.

PRAYER: May the culture around us take note and see the positive difference YOU make in the life YOUR church.

THOT: the Jesus follower proclaims no one’s secrets, but they do declare God’s praises.  They work hard for tyrants yet free their own slaves.  They are not perfect they are simply forgiven (and appreciative).

THURSDAY 8/31/2017 (10-14) #2075

Read: John 4:43-54, 1 Pet 1:10-16, Eccl 11, Jer 35-38

John 4:44 (GW) 44  Jesus had said that a prophet is not honored in his own country.

John 4:48,50,53 (GW) 48  Jesus told the official, “If people don't see miracles and amazing things, they won't believe.” … 50  Jesus told him, “Go home. Your son will live.” The man believed what Jesus told him and left. … 53  Then the boy's father realized that it was the same time that Jesus had told him, “Your son will live.” So the official and his entire family became believers.

NOTE: But this man believed without seeing.   Better yet this miracle led to his whole family getting saved.

PRAYER: Lord, I like miracles but I need YOU.  I believe in YOU!!!

1 Peter 1:13 (GW) 13  Therefore, your minds must be clear and ready for action. Place your confidence completely in what God's kindness will bring you when Jesus Christ appears again.

PRAYER: Assured of YOUR grace, I will prepare my mind and heart for action in my walk.

1 Peter 1:14-16 (GW) 14  Because you are children who obey God, don't live the kind of lives you once lived. Once you lived to satisfy your desires because you didn't know any better. 15  But because the God who called you is holy you must be holy in every aspect of your life. 16  Scripture says, “Be holy, because I am holy.”

NOTE: Holy means “to be set apart (from sin)”

PRAYER: Lord,  help me to clean up all areas of my life, including the hidden ones.

Ecclesiastes 11:1 (GW) 1  Throw your bread on the surface of the water, because you will find it again after many days.

NOTE: Investing boldly in other lives, ministries, and mission – will pay off eventually in big ways.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to recognize good sowing possibilities.

Ecclesiastes 11:5 (GW) 5  Just as you don't know how the breath of life enters the limbs of a child within its mother's womb, you also don't understand how God, who made everything, works.

PRAYER: That’s for sure, yet I appreciate the many glimpses YOU give me of who YOU are.

Ecclesiastes 11:6 (GW) 6  Plant your seed in the morning, and don't let your hands rest until evening. You don't know whether this field or that field will be profitable or whether both of them will {turn out} equally well.

PRAYER: Got it,  hard work will benefit me somehow and somewhere.

Ecclesiastes 11:8 (GW) 8  Even though people may live for many years, they should enjoy every one of them. But they should also remember there will be many dark days. Everything that is coming is pointless.

PRAYER: I will try to enjoy the moment though realizing this isn’t heaven, is it?!!

Ecclesiastes 11:10 (GW) 10  Get rid of what troubles you or wears down your body, because childhood and youth are pointless.

PRAYER: I will take responsibility for my life, but I could use YOUR help.

Jeremiah 38:5-6,10,20 (GW) 5  King Zedekiah answered, “He's in your hands. I won't do anything to stop you.” 6  So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern of Malchiah, …There was no water in the cistern, only mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud. … 10  Then the king gave Ebed Melech from Sudan this command: “Take 30 men from here, and lift the prophet Jeremiah out of the cistern before he dies.” …. 20  Jeremiah said, “You will not be handed over to them. Obey the LORD by doing what I'm telling you. Then everything will go well for you, and you will live.

PRAYER: Lord, I will bless my enemies and leave the judgement and justice part up to YOU!

THOT: Holiness and hard work go on even on the hard days.  But the Jesus follower will always find joy in the moment.

John 5:5-6,8-9,14 (GW) 5  One man, who had been sick for 38 years, was lying there. 6  Jesus saw the man lying there and knew that he had been sick for a long time. So Jesus asked the man, “Would you like to get well?”… 8  Jesus told the man, “Get up, pick up your cot, and walk.” 9  The man immediately became well, picked up his cot, and walked. That happened on a day of worship. … 14  Later, Jesus met the man in the temple courtyard and told him, “You're well now. Stop sinning so that something worse doesn't happen to you.”

PRAYER: Thank YOU for touching my life, but help me to stay on YOUR straight and narrow path.

1 Peter 1:17 (GW) 17  So if you call God your Father, live your time as temporary residents on earth in fear. He is the God who judges all people by what they have done, and he doesn't play favorites.

PRAYER: This (earth) is not my home, but while I’m here may my actions be worthy of my true home (heaven).

1 Peter 1:21 (GW) 21  Through him you believe in God who brought Christ back to life and gave him glory. So your faith and confidence are in God.

PRAYER: Thank YOU again for this gift of life YOU’ve given to me.

1 Peter 1:22 (GW) 22  Love each other with a warm love that comes from the heart. After all, you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth. As a result you have a sincere love for each other.

PRAYER: May we all clean up a little better so we can love a lot stronger.

Ecclesiastes 12:5 (GW) 5  Remember your Creator when someone is afraid of heights and of dangers along the road, the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along, {and} the caper bush has {no} fruit. Mortals go to their eternal rest, and mourners go out in the streets.

PRAYER: I the worst of times, I hope to look to YOU.  YOU are the rock. YOU are my rock.

Jeremiah 39:18 (GW) 18  I will certainly rescue you. You will not die in war. You will escape with your life because you trusted me, declares the LORD.'”

PRAYER: I will trust in YOU.

Jeremiah 42:10-12 (GW) 10  Suppose you stay in this land. Then I will build you up and not tear you down. I will plant you and not uproot you. I will change my plans about the disaster I've brought on you. 11  Don't be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you now fear. Don't be afraid of him, declares the LORD. I'm with you. I will save you and rescue you from his power. 12  I will have compassion on you. I will make him have compassion on you and return you to your land.

PRAYER: I will bloom wherever I’m planted.  And I look forward to the time when we’ll all be brought back together where YOU always intended us to be.

THOT: We are saved by grace, but our lives must be a reflection of that
