If you use this weekly guide  - you'll cover all of the Bible in just 300 days.   This is sort of a "Cliff Notes" version of the reading plan that Pastor John uses.  But it's more than just learning stuff.  This helps you to communicate with God.  You'll hear Him, and He will hear you..

MONDAY 9/4/2017 (10-16) #2079

Read: John 5:16-30, 1 Pet 2:1-8, Song 1, Jer 44-46

John 5:20-21 (GW) 20  The Father loves the Son and shows him everything he is doing. The Father will show him even greater things to do than these things so that you will be amazed. 21  In the same way that the Father brings back the dead and gives them life, the Son gives life to anyone he chooses.

PRAYER: I’m looking forward to being amazed (again).

John 5:24 (GW) 24  I can guarantee this truth: Those who listen to what I say and believe in the one who sent me will have eternal life. They won't be judged because they have already passed from death to life.

PRAYER: Thank YOU, thank YOU, thank YOU!!!

1 Peter 2:5 (GW) 5  You come to him as living stones, a spiritual house that is being built into a holy priesthood. So offer spiritual sacrifices that God accepts through Jesus Christ.

PRAYER: Build us into a holy temple.

1 Peter 2:7-8 (GW) 7  This honor belongs to those who believe. But to those who don't believe: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone, 8  a stone that people trip over, a large rock that people find offensive.” The people tripped over the word because they refused to believe it. Therefore, this is how they ended up.

PRAYER: Not everyone “gets” YOU.  But I’ll keep trying to share with them anyway.

Song of Songs 1:15 (GW) 15  [Groom] Look at you! You are beautiful, my true love! Look at you! You are so beautiful! Your eyes are like doves!

PRAYER: How is it that YOU see so much beauty in us.  YOUR love is amazing.

Jeremiah 46:28 (GW) 28  Don't be afraid, my servant Jacob,” declares the LORD. I am with you. I will completely destroy all the nations where I scattered you, but I will not completely destroy you. I will correct you with justice. I won't let you go entirely unpunished.”

PRAYER: I appreciate YOUR presence in my life.  I even appreciate YOUR discipline because I know that YOU do it in my best interest.

THOT: The real Jesus follower who listen and applies God’s Word will see amazing things and experience unlimited love …in community.


TUESDAY 9/5/2017 (10-17) #2080

Read: John 5:31-47, 1 Pet 2:9-17, Song 2, Jer 47-48

John 5:39 (GW) 39  You study the Scriptures in detail because you think you have the source of eternal life in them. These Scriptures testify on my behalf.

PRAYER: I’m learning about stuff, and about me, but I’m certainly learning more about YOU through YOUR Word. Thank YOU!!

1 Peter 2:9 (GW) 9  However, you are chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, people who belong to God. You were chosen to tell about the excellent qualities of God, who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

PRAYER: As a personally picked priest, I will tell others about YOUR role in my life.

1 Peter 2:11 (GW) 11  Dear friends, since you are foreigners and temporary residents {in the world}, I'm encouraging you to keep away from the desires of your corrupt nature. These desires constantly attack you.

PRAYER: This is not my home (earth) help me to minimize its influence

1 Peter 2:15-16 (GW) 15  God wants you to silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing what is right. 16  Live as free people, but don't hide behind your freedom when you do evil. Instead, use your freedom to serve God.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for my freedom. In my freedom I willingly choose to serve YOU.

1 Peter 2:17 (GW) 17  Honor everyone. Love your brothers and sisters in the faith. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

PRAYER: Even the Emperor?!!!  OK!  I will respect and honor EVERYONE.

Song of Songs 2:8 (GW) 8  [Bride] I hear my beloved's voice. Look! Here he comes, sprinting over the mountains, racing over the hills.

PRAYER: I appreciate that YOU are as excited to be with me as I am to be with YOU.

Song of Songs 2:16 (GW) 16  My beloved is mine, and I am his. He is the one who grazes his flock among the lilies.


Jeremiah 48:30 (GW) 30  I know how arrogant they are,” declares the LORD, “but it isn't right. They brag and don't do what they say.

PRAYER: I don’t want to be “that guy”.  I humbly choose to serve and follow YOUR Word.

THOT: Jesus followers are not of this world, but they’ll respect the world’s authorities (without sacrificing their own integrity or loyalty to God).


WEDNESDAY 9/6/2017 (10-18) #2081

Read: John 6:1-15, 1 Pet 2:18-25, Song 3, Jer 49

John 6:8-9,11-12 (GW) 8  One of Jesus' disciples, Andrew, who was Simon Peter's brother, told him, 9  “A boy who has five loaves of barley bread and two small fish is here. But they won't go very far for so many people.”… 11  Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to the people who were sitting there. He did the same thing with the fish. All the people ate as much as they wanted. 12  When the people were full, Jesus told his disciples, “Gather the leftover pieces so that nothing will be wasted.”

PRAYER: I don’t know if Andrew anticipated YOUR miracle meal from a few loaves and fish,  but I hope to trust YOU with what little I have to do whatever YOUR will!

1 Peter 2:18-19 (GW) 18  Slaves, place yourselves under the authority of your owners and show them complete respect. Obey not only those owners who are good and kind, but also those who are unfair. 19  God is pleased if a person is aware of him while enduring the pains of unjust suffering.

PRAYER: I will respect all authorities, and if I suffer I hope to keep my eyes on YOU.  I will trust YOU to even it all out in the end.

1 Peter 2:24-25 (GW) 24  Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross so that freed from our sins, we could live a life that has God's approval. His wounds have healed you. 25  You were like lost sheep. Now you have come back to the shepherd and bishop of your lives.

PRAYER: I’ll try to honor the enormous sacrifice YOU made for me – by living my life for YOU.

Song of Songs 3:1 (GW) 1  [Bride] Night after night on my bed I looked for the one I love. I looked for him but did not find him.

PRAYER: I’ve had those dark moments when I just didn’t feel YOU there – but I know that YOU are, YOU have been, and YOU will always be there.

Jeremiah 49:19 (GW) 19  “…. Who is like me? Who can challenge me? Is there any leader who can stand up to me?”

PRAYER: Forgive me for even trying to do it without YOU

THOT: True believers are not exempt from dark times and suffering – but they are at an advantage because they are never alone.


THURSDAY 9/7/2017 (10-19) #2082

Read: John 6:16-24, 1 Pet 3:1-7, Song 4:1-7, Jer 50

John 6:19-21 (GW) 19  After they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea. He was coming near the boat, and they became terrified. 20  Jesus told them, “It's me. Don't be afraid!” 21  So they were willing to help Jesus into the boat. Immediately, the boat reached the shore where they were going.

PRAYER: YOU are welcome on board my boat anytime.

1 Peter 3:1-2 (GW) 1  Wives, in a similar way, place yourselves under your husbands' authority. Some husbands may not obey God's word. Their wives could win these men {for Christ} by the way they live without saying anything. 2  Their husbands would see how pure and reverent their lives are.

NOTE: and vice-versa, all spouses live lives of servitude, don’t preach at them, demonstrate your love for them and for the LORD.

PRAYER: Lord, may all our couples learn to serve, share, and  to honor both their spouse and YOU.

1 Peter 3:4 (GW) 4  Rather, beauty is something internal that can't be destroyed. Beauty expresses itself in a gentle and quiet attitude which God considers precious.

PRAYER: Help me to see the beauty in others.

1 Peter 3:7 (GW) 7  Husbands, in a similar way, live with your wives with understanding since they are weaker than you are. Honor your wives as those who share God's life-giving kindness so that nothing will interfere with your prayers.

PRAYER: may all our married couples be understanding and honoring of one another.

Song of Songs 4:7 (GW) 7  You are beautiful in every way, my true love. There is no blemish on you.

PRAYER: It amazes me how YOU can look past all my shortcomings to see the beauty in me.

Jeremiah 50:20 (GW) 20  In those days and at that time,” declares the LORD, “people will look for Israel's crimes, but they will find none. They will look for Judah's sins, but none will be found. I will forgive the faithful few whom I have spared.

PRAYER: I’m hanging in there, thanks to YOUR mercy and grace

Jeremiah 50:44-45 (GW) 44  …. Who is like me? Who can challenge me? Is there any leader who can stand up to me? 45  Listen to the plans that the LORD is making ….

PRAYER: There is none like YOU!

THOT: The Jesus follower looks deeper to see what the Lord sees in others.  They will serve, suffer, and even honor those who have not yet found the Lord.


FRIDAY 9/8/2017 (10-20) #2083

Read: John 6:25-40, 1 Pet 3:8-12, Song 4:8-16, Jer 51

John 6:26-27,33,35 (GW) 26  Jesus replied to them, “I can guarantee this truth: You're not looking for me because you saw miracles. You are looking for me because you ate as much of those loaves as you wanted. 27  Don't work for food that spoils. Instead, work for the food that lasts into eternal life. This is the food the Son of Man will give you. After all, the Father has placed his seal of approval on him.”  33  God's bread is the man who comes from heaven and gives life to the world.” … 35  Jesus told them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never become hungry, and whoever believes in me will never become thirsty.

PRAYER: I can be so small minded sometimes.  Help me to be more eternally focused today.

John 6:37 (GW) 37  Everyone whom the Father gives me will come to me. I will never turn away anyone who comes to me.

PRAYER: Help me take my blinders off in order to see those YOU dearly love who remain lost.

1 Peter 3:8 (GW) 8  Finally, everyone must live in harmony, be sympathetic, love each other, have compassion, and be humble.

PRAYER: I will do my best to let YOUR love flow through me. I will unite, support, empathize, care and love in complete humility.

1 Peter 3:9 (GW) 9  Don't pay people back with evil for the evil they do to you, or ridicule those who ridicule you. Instead, bless them, because you were called to inherit a blessing.

PRAYER: With YOUR help, I will love even my enemies.

1 Peter 3:10 (GW) 10  “People who want to live a full life and enjoy good days must keep their tongues from saying evil things, and their lips from speaking deceitful things.

PRAYER: Help me to guard my mouth.  May good things that bless YOUR Holy Name come out of me.

1 Peter 3:11 (GW) 11  They must turn away from evil and do good. They must seek peace and pursue it.

PRAYER: I can and will make better choices.

1 Peter 3:12 (GW) 12  The Lord's eyes are on those who do what he approves. His ears hear their prayer. The Lord confronts those who do evil.”

PRAYER: I am ready for both blessing and the discipline.  Hopefully my life will bring on more of the former.

Song of Songs 4:16 (GW) 16  [Bride] Awake, north wind! Come, south wind! Blow on my garden! Let its spices flow from it. Let my beloved come to his garden, and let him eat his own precious fruit.

PRAYER: May YOU enjoy the fruit of YOUR investments in me.

Jeremiah 51:6,45 (GW) 6  Run away from Babylon! Run for your lives! You shouldn't die because of Babylon's crimes. This is the time for the vengeance of the LORD. He will pay the people of Babylon back for what they have done. 45  “Leave it, my people! Run for your lives! Run from the burning anger of the LORD.

PRAYER: Give me the wisdom and power to run from those things in our culture that do not please YOU.

Jeremiah 51:15 (GW) 15  The LORD made the earth by his power. He set up the world by his wisdom. He stretched out heaven by his understanding.

PRAYER: And I get to hear YOU, learn from YOU, and even get to know YOU.  Amazing. Thank YOU for this opportunity.

THOT: Jesus people live by a higher standard.  They love, support, encourage, and sympathize. They show restraint, humility, integrity, and discipline.  All of this with the help of the Lord.
