Power Passages & Prayer!

If you use this weekly guide  - you'll cover all of the Bible in just 300 days.   This is sort of a "Cliff Notes" version of the reading plan that Pastor John uses.  But it's more than just learning stuff.  This helps you to communicate with God.  You'll hear Him, and He will hear you..

MONDAY 3/26/2018

Read: Mark 4:21-41, 1 Cor 8, Psa 81, Josh 24

Mark 4:24 (TEV) 24  He also said to them, "Pay attention to what you hear! The same rules you use to judge others will be used by God to judge you—but with even greater severity.

PRAYER: I’ll try to leave the judging up to YOU.

Mark 4:25 (TEV) 25  Those who have something will be given more, and those who have nothing will have taken away from them even the little they have."

PRAYER: got it - “use it “ or “lose it”.

Mark 4:26-27 (TEV) 26  Jesus went on to say, "The Kingdom of God is like this. A man scatters seed in his field. 27  He sleeps at night, is up and about during the day, and all the while the seeds are sprouting and growing. Yet he does not know how it happens.

PRAYER: A marvelous mystery. May we all plant more seeds and watch the miracles happen.

Mark 4:31-32 (TEV) 31  It is like this. A man takes a mustard seed, the smallest seed in the world, and plants it in the ground. 32  After a while it grows up and becomes the biggest of all plants. It puts out such large branches that the birds come and make their nests in its shade."

PRAYER: So it doesn’t take that much faith, right?!  And we don’t have to understand how it works!  OK, I’ll plant seeds.

Mark 4:41 (TEV) 41  But they were terribly afraid and began to say to one another, "Who is this man? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"

1 Corinthians 8:1 (TEV) 1  Now, concerning what you wrote about food offered to idols. It is true, of course, that "all of us have knowledge," as they say. Such knowledge, however, puffs a person up with pride; but love builds up.

PRAYER: I’ll be a builder upper.

1 Corinthians 8:6 (TEV) 6  yet there is for us only one God, the Father, who is the Creator of all things and for whom we live; and there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created and through whom we live.

PRAYER: with YOU I will live for YOU.

1 Corinthians 8:9 (TEV) 9  Be careful, however, not to let your freedom of action make those who are weak in the faith fall into sin.

PRAYER: got it!

Psalm 81:10-13 (TEV) 10  I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt. Open your mouth, and I will feed you. 11  "But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not obey me. 12  So I let them go their stubborn ways and do whatever they wanted. 13  How I wish my people would listen to me; how I wish they would obey me!

PRAYER: Forgive us our stubbornness and disregard for YOUR Word.  May we seek to hear it and obey it.

Joshua 24:13 (TEV) 13  I gave you a land that you had never worked and cities that you had not built. Now you are living there and eating grapes from vines that you did not plant, and olives from trees that you did not plant.'

PRAYER: It’s all YOUR’s.  I appreciate all my blessing, thank YOU!

Joshua 24:14 (TEV) 14  "Now then," Joshua continued, "honor the LORD and serve him sincerely and faithfully. Get rid of the gods which your ancestors used to worship in Mesopotamia and in Egypt, and serve only the LORD.

PRAYER: I will faithfully serve and honor YOU in public and in private.  Help me to get rid of anything that doesn’t please YOU in my life.

Joshua 24:15 (TEV) 15  If you are not willing to serve him, decide today whom you will serve, the gods your ancestors worshiped in Mesopotamia or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are now living. As for my family and me, we will serve the LORD."

PRAYER: Me too, me and my house will serve YOU.

THOT: Just a little faith can move mountains, but if you don’t use it – you lose it.  It is wise to make Jesus your daily “front and center” choice, and purposefully clear out the rest.

TUESDAY 3/27/2018

Read: Mark 5:1-20, 1 Cor 9:1-12, Psa 82, Judg 1-3

Mark 5:9,15,17 (TEV) 9  So Jesus asked him, "What is your name!" The man answered, "My name is 'Mob'—there are so many of us. … 15  and when they came to Jesus, they saw the man who used to have the mob of demons in him. He was sitting there, clothed and in his right mind; and they were all afraid. … 17  So they asked Jesus to leave their territory.

NOTE: They might have feared JC’s power, or their own demon’s demise, or it might simply be about economic loss when spirituality is prioritized (ie: pig slaughter before market).

PRAYER: Lord,  lots of people don’t want YOU for lots of reasons. Help me reach the few who just might want what YOU’re offering.

Mark 5:19-20 (TEV) 19  But Jesus would not let him. Instead, he told him, "Go back home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how kind he has been to you." 20  So the man left and went all through the Ten Towns, telling what Jesus had done for him. And all who heard it were amazed.

NOTE: I love that Jesus prioritizes being a witness in your home first.

PRAYER: Lord, may I be a witness in my own family.  But also give me boldness to reach my “Ten Towns”.

1 Corinthians 9:7,9 (TEV) 7  What soldiers ever have to pay their own expenses in the army? What farmers do not eat the grapes from their own vineyard? What shepherds do not use the milk from their own sheep? … 1 Corinthians 9:9 (TEV) 9  We read in the Law of Moses, "Do not muzzle an ox when you are using it to thresh grain." Now, is God concerned about oxen?

PRAYER: God bless the pastors who do with what do without thought of compensation.  But help the church to make sure all our soldiers are well fed.

1 Corinthians 9:10-11 (TEV) 10  … Anyone who plows and anyone who reaps should do their work in the hope of getting a share of the crop. 11  We have sown spiritual seed among you. Is it too much if we reap material benefits from you?

PRAYER: Woah brother Paul, sounds like all you are interested in is money and power.  Just teasing!   But we do pray for all our workers out there may they know that we do support them as well as appreciate them.

Psalm 82:3-4 (TEV) 3  Defend the rights of the poor and the orphans; be fair to the needy and the helpless. 4  Rescue them from the power of evil people.

PRAYER: May we the church not forget nor ignore those who are not blessed, not free, or not fed.

Judges 1:18,21,28 (TEV) 18  The LORD helped the people of Judah, …. But they did not capture … their surrounding territories. …the people of Judah were not able to drive them out. … 21  But the people of the tribe of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem, and the Jebusites have continued to live there with the people of Benjamin ever since. … 28  When the Israelites became stronger, they forced the Canaanites to work for them, but still they did not drive them all out.

PRAYER: How many times have YOU given me a command, and I’ve wimped out or found my own alternative plan – only to miss YOUR full blessing for complete obedience?!  Forgive me, forgive us!

Judges 2:2-3,12-13 (TEV) 2  You must not make any covenant with the people who live in this land. You must tear down their altars.' But you have not done what I told you. You have done just the opposite! 3  So I tell you now that I will not drive these people out as you advance. They will be your enemies, and you will be trapped by the worship of their gods." … 12  They stopped worshiping the LORD, …, and they began to worship other gods, the gods of the peoples around them. They bowed down to them and made the LORD angry. 13  They stopped worshiping the LORD and served the Baals and the Astartes.

PRAYER: We haven’t changed much, only the Baals are “soccer gods”, “vacations”, or “weekend parties” – whatever the excuse – YOU don’t get worshipped (not really). We are entrapped by the gods of this culture.  Forgive us!

Judges 2:18-19 (TEV) 18  Whenever the LORD gave Israel a leader, the LORD would help that leader and would save the people from their enemies as long as that leader lived. The LORD would have mercy on them because they groaned under their suffering and oppression. 19  But when the leader died, the people would return to the old ways and behave worse than the previous generation. They would serve and worship other gods, and stubbornly continue their own evil ways.

PRAYER: So raise up spiritual moral leaders who will raise up spiritual and moral apprentice leaders who will in turn repeat this process.

Judges 3:6-7,12 (TEV) 6  They intermarried with them and worshiped their gods. 7  The people of Israel forgot the LORD their God; they sinned against him and worshiped the idols of Baal and Asherah. … 12  The people of Israel sinned against the LORD again. ….

PRAYER: At least we are predictable.  Forgive us and empower us to make better choices and serve YOU more fully.

THOT: A lot of people don’t want God in their lives, sadly we believers are often lulled into our culture and away from the Lord. It is a constant battle.  We need godly leaders and we need repentant followers.

WEDNESDAY 3/28/2018

Read: Mark 5:21-43, 1 Cor 9:13-27, Psa 83, Judg 4-5

Mark 5:34 (TEV) 34  Jesus said to her, "My daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your trouble."

PRAYER: So my faith, as small as a mustard seed, can do great things, right?!!

Mark 5:36,41-42 (TEV) 36  Jesus paid no attention to what they said, but told him, "Don't be afraid, only believe." … 41  He took her by the hand and said to her, "Talitha, koum," which means, "Little girl, I tell you to get up!" 42  She got up at once and started walking around. (She was twelve years old.) When this happened, they were completely amazed.

PRAYER: Sounds so simple, yet I spend so much time worrying and doubting.  Thank YOU for YOUR patience with me.

1 Corinthians 9:19 (TEV) 19  I am a free man, nobody's slave; but I make myself everybody's slave in order to win as many people as possible.

PRAYER: We could all be more determined to win people to YOU at whatever the cost.

1 Corinthians 9:20-22 (TEV) 20  While working with the Jews, I live like a Jew in order to win them; …. 21  In the same way, when working with Gentiles, I live like a Gentile, …. 22  Among the weak in faith I become weak like one of them, in order to win them. So I become all things to all people, that I may save some of them by whatever means are possible.

PRAYER: Help all of us to blend better without compromise, so that we can win the opportunity to lead people to YOU.

1 Corinthians 9:24,26 (TEV) 24  Surely you know that many runners take part in a race, but only one of them wins the prize. Run, then, in such a way as to win the prize.  26  That is why I run straight for the finish line; that is why I am like a boxer who does not waste his punches.

PRAYER: I have frequently been sidetracked from the objective of “going” and  making disciples”.  Help me to be more focused on YOUR mission for my life.

1 Corinthians 9:27 (TEV) 27  I harden my body with blows and bring it under complete control, to keep myself from being disqualified after having called others to the contest.

PRAYER: I will live a more disciplined life – in order to bring glory to YOU.

Psalm 83:18 (TEV) 18  May they know that you alone are the LORD, supreme ruler over all the earth.

PRAYER: Amen, YOU are “tops” on my list.

Judges 4:14 (TEV) 14  Then Deborah said to Barak, "Go! The LORD is leading you! Today he has given you victory over Sisera." So Barak went down from Mount Tabor with his ten thousand men.

NOTE: First note that there are two women in today’s reading that make the difference in the leadership of Israel.  Women leadership in the OT (mic drop).

PRAYER: Lord, man or woman, we should “go” more so long as YOU are our main leader.

Judges 5:31 (TEV) 31  …, O LORD, but may your friends shine like the rising sun! And there was peace in the land for forty years.

PRAYER: May the church begin to shine a bit brighter today.

THOT: God leads male and female into light shining roles that can and will win the “lost”

THURSDAY 3/29/2018

Read: Mark 6:1-13, 1 Cor 10:1-13, Psa 84, Judg 6-7

Mark 6:3 (TEV) 3  Isn't he the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon? Aren't his sisters living here?" And so they rejected him.

PRAYER: Forgive me for the times I’ve made YOU anything but the Living God YOU really are.

Mark 6:4 (TEV) 4  Jesus said to them, "Prophets are respected everywhere except in their own hometown and by their relatives and their family."

Mark 6:5-6 (TEV) 5  He was not able to perform any miracles there, except that he placed his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6  He was greatly surprised, because the people did not have faith. Then Jesus went to the villages around there, teaching the people.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for doing what miracles YOU do perform even amidst or unbelief.

1 Corinthians 10:6-10 (TEV) 6  Now, all of this is an example for us, to warn us not to desire evil things, as they did, 7  nor to worship idols, … drinking and sex." 8  We must not be guilty of sexual immorality, …. 9  We must not put the Lord to the test, …. 10  We must not complain, ….

PRAYER: Help me to clean up my life.  May the our congregation purposefully clean up the complaining, the carousing, and making sex or success our focus.

1 Corinthians 10:12 (TEV) 12  If you think you are standing firm you had better be careful that you do not fall.

PRAYER: I’ve done that, and I’ve fallen.  Didn’t like it!  Help me stay firm.

1 Corinthians 10:13 (TEV) 13  Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.

PRAYER: I trust YOU to provide the way out when it does reach my limit.  But till then may I endure.  YOU are the example of endurance. I will not quit.

Psalm 84:2,10 (TEV) 2  How I want to be there! I long to be in the LORD'S Temple. With my whole being I sing for joy to the living God. … 10  One day spent in your Temple is better than a thousand anywhere else; I would rather stand at the gate of the house of my God than live in the homes of the wicked.

PRAYER: I love you all week, but there is something different about weekend worship with everyone in YOUR house. May YOU be blessed this coming weekend with shouts of joy.

Psalm 84:6 (TEV) 6  As they pass through the dry valley of Baca, it becomes a place of springs; the autumn rain fills it with pools.

PRAYER: May our congregation get refilled this weekend and may it spread that joy and power to the dry places we live and work.

Psalm 84:11 (TEV) 11  The LORD is our protector and glorious king, blessing us with kindness and honor. He does not refuse any good thing to those who do what is right.

PRAYER: I appreciate YOUR leadership and security, YOUR charity and constant encouragement.  Thank YOU!!!

Judges 6:1,10 (TEV) 1  Once again the people of Israel sinned against the LORD, so he let the people of Midian rule them for seven years. … 10  I told you that I am the LORD your God and that you should not worship the gods of the Amorites, whose land you are now living in. But you have not listened to me."

PRAYER: There are too many “once agains” in our lives, huh?!!!  Help me/us to do better.

Judges 6:11-12 (TEV) 11  Then the LORD'S angel …. His son Gideon was threshing some wheat secretly in a wine press, so that the Midianites would not see him. 12  The LORD'S angel appeared to him there and said, "The LORD is with you, brave and mighty man!"

PRAYER: Who says YOU aren’t sarcastic?!!!  I love it!  Yeah, big brave warrior of the wheat, yet it’s motivating!

Judges 6:14-16,34 (TEV) 14  Then the LORD ordered him, "Go with all your great strength and rescue Israel from the Midianites. I myself am sending you." 15  Gideon replied, "But Lord, how can I rescue Israel? My clan is the weakest in the tribe of Manasseh, and I am the least important member of my family." 16  The LORD answered, "You can do it because I will help you. You will crush the Midianites as easily as if they were only one man." … 34  The spirit of the LORD took control of Gideon, and he blew a trumpet to call the men of the clan of Abiezer to follow him.

PRAYER: I’ve got no excuses.  I’ve got YOU!!!!

Judges 6:31 (TEV) 31  But Joash said to all those who confronted him, "Are you arguing for Baal? Are you defending him? Anyone who argues for him will be killed before morning. If Baal is a god, let him defend himself. It is his altar that was torn down."

PRAYER: There are people in the church who seem to be defending the Baals of this culture. Help me reach them before it’s too late.

Judges 7:2 (TEV) 2  The LORD said to Gideon, "The men you have are too many for me to give them victory over the Midianites. They might think that they had won by themselves, and so give me no credit.

NOTE: Don’t be afraid to do something so big that only God can get the credit.

PRAYER: Lord, may our planning for the church be such that YOU will get the glory.

Judges 7:7 (TEV) 7  The LORD said to Gideon, "I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites with the three hundred men who lapped the water. Tell everyone else to go home."

PRAYER: This really is the original “300” only they won and without weapons. All praise to YOU!

THOT: We tend to forget that Jesus are our rock.  When things go well – we forget that Jesus was the reason.  We need to constantly refocus on the Lord.

FRIDAY 3/30/2018

Read: Mark 6:14-29, 1 Cor 10:14-33, Psa 85, Judg 8

Mark 6:20 (TEV) 20  Herod was afraid of John because he knew that John was a good and holy man, and so he kept him safe. He liked to listen to him, even though he became greatly disturbed every time he heard him.

PRAYER: This is frustrating for both of us when they listen but don’t apply it.  But I’ll keep trying.

1 Corinthians 10:16-17 (TEV) 16  The cup we use in the Lord's Supper and for which we give thanks to God: when we drink from it, we are sharing in the blood of Christ. And the bread we break: when we eat it, we are sharing in the body of Christ. 17  Because there is the one loaf of bread, all of us, though many, are one body, for we all share the same loaf.

PRAYER: YOU, Lord, make us as one.

1 Corinthians 10:21,23 (TEV) 21  You cannot drink from the Lord's cup and also from the cup of demons; you cannot eat at the Lord's table and also at the table of demons.  23  "We are allowed to do anything," so they say. That is true, but not everything is good. "We are allowed to do anything"—but not everything is helpful.

PRAYER: I’ll make better choices that would honor YOU.

1 Corinthians 10:24 (TEV) 24  None of you should be looking out for your own interests, but for the interests of others.

PRAYER: I’ll try to be more aware and considerate of others.  Today, I’m a servant.

1 Corinthians 10:26 (TEV) 26  For, as the scripture says, "The earth and everything in it belong to the Lord."

PRAYER: I appreciate everything YOU allowed me to enjoy on this side of eternity.

1 Corinthians 10:31 (TEV) 31  Well, whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it all for God's glory.

PRAYER: In all things I do and think – may YOU get blessed.

1 Corinthians 10:32-33 (TEV) 32  Live in such a way as to cause no trouble either to Jews or Gentiles or to the church of God. 33  Just do as I do; I try to please everyone in all that I do, not thinking of my own good, but of the good of all, so that they might be saved.

PRAYER: I’ll serve and generate peace wherever I go.  Show me those I might try to lead to YOU.

Psalm 85:8 (TEV) 8  I am listening to what the LORD God is saying; he promises peace to us, his own people, if we do not go back to our foolish ways.

PRAYER: I can be so dumb, but I hope to be a loyal listener.

Psalm 85:10,13 (TEV) 10  Love and faithfulness will meet; righteousness and peace will embrace. 13  Righteousness will go before the LORD and prepare the path for him.

PRAYER: May YOU be exalted in all I say and do.

Judges 8:23 (TEV) 23  Gideon answered, "I will not be your ruler, nor will my son. The LORD will be your ruler."

PRAYER: How wise.  We pray for our leaders of the church and our nation – but YOU are the Lord of Lords.

Judges 8:27 (TEV) 27  Gideon made an idol from the gold and put it in his hometown, Ophrah. All the Israelites abandoned God and went there to worship the idol. It was a trap for Gideon and his family.

PRAYER: Help me to find an remove any idols I may be setting up in my life.

THOT: Believers are called to a higher standard, but we still have to be aware of our constant battle with our sin stained nature.
