If you use this weekly guide  - you'll cover all of the Bible in just 300 days.   This is sort of a "Cliff Notes" version of the reading plan that Pastor John uses.  But it's more than just learning stuff.  This helps you to communicate with God.  You'll hear Him, and He will hear you..

MONDAY 4/2/2018

Read: Mark 6:30-44, 1 Cor 11:1-16, Psa 86, Judg 9

Mark 6:34 (TEV) 34  When Jesus got out of the boat, he saw this large crowd, and his heart was filled with pity for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things.

PRAYER: We need more of YOUR Word.

Mark 6:37 (TEV) 37  "You yourselves give them something to eat," Jesus answered. They asked, "Do you want us to go and spend two hundred silver coins on bread in order to feed them?"

NOTE: God’s answer to world hunger is you and me.

PRAYER: No excuses, right?!! What little I have can do miracles with YOU.

Mark 6:39-40 (TEV) 39  Jesus then told his disciples to make all the people divide into groups and sit down on the green grass. 40  So the people sat down in rows, in groups of a hundred and groups of fifty.

PRAYER: Bless our Small Groups and raise up more of them where we can be fed in real community.

Mark 6:41 (TEV) 41  Then Jesus took the five loaves and the two fish, looked up to heaven, and gave thanks to God. He broke the loaves and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all.

PRAYER: For what little I have, I thank YOU.  It’s enough isn’t it!

1 Corinthians 11:1 (TEV) 1  Imitate me, then, just as I imitate Christ.

PRAYER: I’m not just reading this stuff, I’ll live it.  May my life be an example to others.

1 Corinthians 11:10 (TEV) 10  On account of the angels, then, a woman should have a covering over her head to show that she is under her husband's authority.

NOTE: In the culture of Christ, authority is exercised differently that in the world’s culture.  The woman, now freed because of Christ, must humbly submit to letting man sacrifice his life for her, to give selflessly to her.  She must be willing to let her husband serve her.  This is counter cultural thinking.

PRAYER: Lord, may we all serve selflessly and receive love humbly, male or female.

1 Corinthians 11:11-12 (TEV) 11  In our life in the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. 12  For as woman was made from man, in the same way man is born of woman; and it is God who brings everything into existence.

PRAYER: I will value female and male alike.  Although they are different, we need each other don’t we.

Psalm 86:5,15 (TEV) 5  You are good to us and forgiving, full of constant love for all who pray to you. 15  But you, O Lord, are a merciful and loving God, always patient, always kind and faithful.

PRAYER: All of which I appreciate

Psalm 86:11 (TEV) 11  Teach me, LORD, what you want me to do, and I will obey you faithfully; teach me to serve you with complete devotion.

PRAYER: I know that sounds funny but I really do need YOUR help in keeping YOU front and center in my everyday living.

Judges 9:22,53,56 (TEV) 22  Abimelech ruled Israel for three years. … 53  But a woman threw a millstone down on his head and fractured his skull. … 56  And so it was that God paid Abimelech back for the crime that he committed against his father in killing his seventy brothers.

NOTE: Notice that justice is not always immediate.  But God will even things out in this life or the next.

PRAYER: Lord, I hope to be more patient while waiting for YOUR justice.

THOT: Whether or not we personally see justice or promised prosperity – we must remain selflessly devoted to learning and living God’s Word.

TUESDAY 4/3/2018

Read: Mark 6:45-56, 1 Cor 11:17-34, Psa 87, Judg 10-12

Mark 6:48 (TEV) 48  He saw that his disciples were straining at the oars, because they were rowing against the wind; so sometime between three and six o'clock in the morning, he came to them, walking on the water. He was going to pass them by [or join them],

PRAYER: Whatever hour, YOU’ll walk on water to get to us, won’t YOU?!!!

Mark 6:52 (TEV) 52  because they had not understood the real meaning of the feeding of the five thousand; their minds could not grasp it.

PRAYER: I’m glad I’m not the only spiritually slow person here!

Mark 6:56 (TEV) 56  And everywhere Jesus went, to villages, towns, or farms, people would take their sick to the marketplaces and beg him to let the sick at least touch the edge of his cloak. And all who touched it were made well.

PRAYER: May we reach the place where people are hauling in their broken friends and neighbors for YOU to touch them.  Prepare our congregation to be part of this divine possibility.

1 Corinthians 11:17 (TEV) 17  In the following instructions, however, I do not praise you, because your meetings for worship actually do more harm than good.

PRAYER: Sometime Sunday morning is more for our entertainment or just a tradition instead of a divine encounter with YOU and a representative sample of YOUR whole family.  Forgive us.  May this coming weekend please YOU, our songs, our silence, and  our service, as well as our fellowship with each other.

1 Corinthians 11:23-25 (TEV) 23  For I received from the Lord the teaching that I passed on to you: that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took a piece of bread, 24  gave thanks to God, broke it, and said, "This is my body, which is for you. Do this in memory of me." 25  In the same way, after the supper he took the cup and said, "This cup is God's new covenant, sealed with my blood. Whenever you drink it, do so in memory of me."

QUOTE:

1 Corinthians 11:28,31 (TEV) 28  So then, you should each examine yourself first, and then eat the bread and drink from the cup.  31  If we would examine ourselves first, we would not come under God's judgment.

PRAYER: This introspection stuff is sometimes kinda hard, but OK!

Psalm 87:3 (TEV) 3  Listen, city of God, to the wonderful things he says about you:

PRAYER: Wow, the fact that YOU even notice me is great. I appreciate YOU constant love, attention, and encouragement.

Judges 10:12-14,16 (TEV) 12  the Sidonians, the Amalekites, and the Maonites oppressed you in the past, and you cried out to me. Did I not save you from them? 13  But you still left me and worshiped other gods, so I am not going to rescue you again. 14  Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them rescue you when you get in trouble." … 16  So they got rid of their foreign gods and worshiped the LORD; and he became troubled over Israel's distress.

PRAYER: I know there have been times I’ve wanted YOUR help without being willing to really change.  Forgive me.  If there is something in my life not pleasing to YOU, help me rid of it.

Judges 11:29,31 (TEV) 29  Then the spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah. He went through Gilead and Manasseh and returned to Mizpah in Gilead and went on to Ammon. … 31  I will burn as an offering the first person that comes out of my house to meet me, when I come back from the victory. I will offer that person to you as a sacrifice."

NOTE: In the excitement of the moment don’t make grandiose promises.

PRAYER: Forgive me for the times YOU’ve given me victory or a sense of power – and, in my excitement, said or done something really dumb.

THOT: worship is more than music and a message, it’s more than a building or a tradition.  Worship is what happens when God takes center stage with His children present.

Wednesday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

WEDNESDAY 4/4/2018

Read: Mark 7:1-23, 1 Cor 12:1-13, Psa 88, Judg 13-15

Mark 7:6,8,13 (TEV) 6  Jesus answered them, "How right Isaiah was when he prophesied about you! You are hypocrites, just as he wrote: 'These people, says God, honor me with their words, but their heart is really far away from me. 8  "You put aside God's command and obey human teachings." … 13  In this way the teaching you pass on to others cancels out the word of God. And there are many other things like this that you do."

PRAYER: Forgive us for the times we’ve bent YOUR word to fit our prejudices.

Mark 7:15,21-23 (TEV) 15  There is nothing that goes into you from the outside which can make you ritually unclean. Rather, it is what comes out of you that makes you unclean." … 21  For from the inside, from your heart, come the evil ideas which lead you to do immoral things, to rob, kill, 22  commit adultery, be greedy, and do all sorts of evil things; deceit, indecency, jealousy, slander, pride, and folly23  all these evil things come from inside you and make you unclean."

PRAYER: Proved that! And some of that stuff is so common. Help me be better.

1 Corinthians 12:3 (TEV) 3  I want you to know that no one who is led by God's Spirit can say "A curse on Jesus!" and no one can confess "Jesus is Lord," without being guided by the Holy Spirit.

QUOTE:

1 Corinthians 12:4-7,11 (TEV) 4  There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit gives them. 5  There are different ways of serving, but the same Lord is served. 6  There are different abilities to perform service, but the same God gives ability to all for their particular service. 7  The Spirit's presence is shown in some way in each person for the good of all. … 11  But it is one and the same Spirit who does all this; as he wishes, he gives a different gift to each person.

PRAYER: I will appreciate YOUR role in my life, and I’ll appreciate the unique differences/talents in others.

Psalm 88:10 (TEV) 10  Do you perform miracles for the dead? Do they rise up and praise you?

PRAYER: I don’t want to be dead in my faith walk (in a funk).  I want to praise YOU, I want to see YOUR miracles. Help me when I’m in that funk.

Psalm 88:13-14 (TEV) 13  LORD, I call to you for help; every morning I pray to you. 14  Why do you reject me, LORD? Why do you turn away from me?

PRAYER: Thank YOU for this Psalm. Thank YOU for allowing me to vent my frustration and lack of faith.  I know YOU are there and YOU have not truly rejected me.  How patient YOU are with me!

Judges 13:14 (TEV) 14  She must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine; she must not drink any wine or beer, or eat any forbidden food. She must do everything that I have told her."

NOTE: words given to a special mother-to-be: watch your diet, spiritually and physically.  Feed on God’s Word, and watch out for anything that zaps power from you.

PRAYER: Lord, may we normal people be as careful (and wise) with our spiritual and physical diets.

Judges 14:19 (TEV) 19  Suddenly the power of the LORD made him strong, …,

PRAYER: That’s the part I like.  I know that YOU empower me.

Judges 15:14-15 (TEV) 14  When he got to Lehi, the Philistines came running toward him, shouting at him. Suddenly the power of the LORD made him strong, and he broke the ropes around his arms and hands as if they were burnt thread. 15  Then he found a jawbone of a donkey that had recently died. He reached down and picked it up, and killed a thousand men with it.

PRAYER: In the face of obvious adversity, may I remember that “thou art with me”.  Empower me, inform me, direct me.

THOT: the real Christian has two advantages, the presence of the Lord, and the power of community (the church).

Thursday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

THURSDAY 4/5/2018

Read: Mark 7:24-37, 1 Cor 12:14-31, Psa 89:1-18, Judg 16

Mark 7:28-29 (TEV) 28  "Sir," she answered, "even the dogs under the table eat the children's leftovers!" 29  So Jesus said to her, "Because of that answer, go back home, where you will find that the demon has gone out of your daughter!"

PRAYER: I’m OK with scraps too!

Mark 7:33-34 (TEV) 33  So Jesus took him off alone, away from the crowd, put his fingers in the man's ears, spat, and touched the man's tongue. 34  Then Jesus looked up to heaven, gave a deep groan, and said to the man, "Ephphatha," which means, "Open up!"

PRAYER: Move powerfully and privately with all the members of our congregation.  Open all of us up to share and care and reach out.

Mark 7:37 (TEV) 37  And all who heard were completely amazed. "How well he does everything!" they exclaimed. "He even causes the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak!"

PRAYER: YOU are amazing.  May the church become un-dumbed and may we really begin to hear YOU as well as each other. May we even hear the needs of the “lost” so we can better guide them to YOU.

1 Corinthians 12:14-15,21,27 (TEV) 14  For the body itself is not made up of only one part, but of many parts. 15  If the foot were to say, "Because I am not a hand, I don't belong to the body," that would not keep it from being a part of the body…. 21  So then, the eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" Nor can the head say to the feet, "Well, I don't need you!" …) 27  All of you are Christ's body, and each one is a part of it.

PRAYER: May we value and better cooperate with  the unique contributions and personalities of each member of YOUR body.

1 Corinthians 12:23 (TEV) 23  and those parts that we think aren't worth very much are the ones which we treat with greater care; while the parts of the body which don't look very nice are treated with special modesty,

PRAYER: we can all stand to be a little more understanding and sensitive to one another.

1 Corinthians 12:25-26 (TEV) 25  And so there is no division in the body, but all its different parts have the same concern for one another. 26  If one part of the body suffers, all the other parts suffer with it; if one part is praised, all the other parts share its happiness.

PRAYER: Good and bad times WE will experience it together.  May love bind us together.

Psalm 89:1-2 (TEV) 1   O LORD, I will always sing of your constant love; I will proclaim your faithfulness forever. 2  I know that your love will last for all time, that your faithfulness is as permanent as the sky.

PRAYER: I will declare YOUR love and faithfulness all week.  Besides, it’s a great reminder when my heart wanders.

Psalm 89:13-14 (TEV) 13  How powerful you are! How great is your strength! 14  Your kingdom is founded on righteousness and justice; love and faithfulness are shown in all you do.

PRAYER: Power, righteousness, justice, and all reveled with love and faithfulness, wow!  Thank YOU!

Psalm 89:15-16 (TEV) 15  How happy are the people who worship you with songs, who live in the light of your kindness! 16  Because of you they rejoice all day long, and they praise you for your goodness.

PRAYER: Be blessed by our assembly next weekend and our private worship moments all week.

Judges 16:20-21 (TEV) 20  Then she shouted, "Samson! The Philistines are coming!" He woke up and thought, "I'll get loose and go free, as always." He did not know that the LORD had left him. 21  The Philistines captured him and put his eyes out. They took him to Gaza, chained him with bronze chains, and put him to work grinding at the mill in the prison.

NOTE: Bad things happen when the Lord leaves you.  Best to stay close to Him.

PRAYER: Lord, may I never stray too far from YOU.

Judges 16:28 (TEV) 28  Then Samson prayed, "Sovereign LORD, please remember me; please, God, give me my strength just this one time more, so that with this one blow I can get even with the Philistines for putting out my two eyes."

PRAYER: I like how YOU give second chances for us goof balls.  Thank YOU!

THOT: God blesses the outcasts, the rejected, and even deserters.  So we should be open and encouraging to whomever He should bring into the fold.

Friday

http://www.templatezone.com/app/HIE5/US-English/Images/EDB_Template_037_i01.png

FRIDAY 4/6/2018

Read: Mark 8:1-13, 1 Cor 13, Psa 89:19-52, Judg 17-18

Mark 8:4-5,8 (TEV) 4  His disciples asked him, "Where in this desert can anyone find enough food to feed all these people?" 5  "How much bread do you have?" Jesus asked. "Seven loaves," they answered. … 8  Everybody ate and had enough—there were about four thousand people. Then the disciples took up seven baskets full of pieces left over. Jesus sent the people away

PRAYER: I realize that we are YOUR answer to world hunger.  YOU feed us, we feed them. Got it!

Mark 8:11-12 (TEV) 11  Some Pharisees came to Jesus and started to argue with him. They wanted to trap him, so they asked him to perform a miracle to show that God approved of him. 12  But Jesus gave a deep groan and said, "Why do the people of this day ask for a miracle? No, I tell you! No such proof will be given to these people!"

PRAYER: Not everyone REALLY wants to know YOU, but I’ll talk to them anyway.

1 Corinthians 13:1 (TEV) 1  I may be able to speak the languages of human beings and even of angels, but if I have no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or a clanging bell.

PRAYER: Love, got it!

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (TEV) 4  Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; 5  love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; 6  love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. 7  Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.

PRAYER: I can do this.  The mark is kinda high, but I can do this with YOUR love moving through me, right?!

1 Corinthians 13:12 (TEV) 12  What we see now is like a dim image in a mirror; then we shall see face-to-face. What I know now is only partial; then it will be complete—as complete as God's knowledge of me.

PRAYER: I really don’t get it (a lot). Eternity will be quite an education, thank you very much!

1 Corinthians 13:13 (TEV) 13  Meanwhile these three remain: faith, hope, and love; and the greatest of these is love.

QUOTE:

Psalm 89:21,24 (TEV) 21  My strength will always be with him, my power will make him strong. .. 24  I will love him and be loyal to him; I will make him always victorious.

PRAYER: Why would I want anything but YOU?!!

Psalm 89:46-47,52 (TEV) 46  LORD, will you hide yourself forever? How long will your anger burn like fire? 47  Remember how short my life is; remember that you created all of us mortal! .. 52  Praise the LORD forever! Amen! Amen!

PRAYER: However long my periods of trial are, I will yet Praise YOU, ‘cuz YOUR still the answer.

Judges 17:5-6 (TEV) 5  This man Micah had his own place of worship. He made some idols and an ephod, and appointed one of his sons as his priest. 6  There was no king in Israel at that time; everyone did whatever they wanted.

PRAYER: That matches the cultures needs but it’s not good, is it?!

Judges 18:19-20,31 (TEV) 19  They told him, "Keep quiet. Don't say a word. Come with us and be our priest and adviser. Wouldn't you rather be a priest for a whole Israelite tribe than for the family of one man?" 20  This made the priest very happy, so he took the sacred objects and went along with them…. 31  Micah's idol remained there as long as the Tent where God was worshiped remained at Shiloh.

NOTE: Chpts 17-18 show the corrupt nature of religion for not only individuals but even for the nation of Israel.  They just didn’t “get it”.

PRAYER: Lord, forgive me the times I’ve set up my traditions and idols that make me comfortable without considering what meets YOUR will.

THOT: The true believer, doesn’t worship tradition but the Lord. Everything they do is based on love not performance (though good acts follow good intents).
