MONDAY 4/16/2018

Read: Mark 9:33-50, 2 Cor 1:1-11, Psa 95, 1 Sam 1-2

Mark 9:35 (TEV) 35  Jesus sat down, called the twelve disciples, and said to them, "Whoever wants to be first must place himself last of all and be the servant of all."

PRAYER: Today I am a servant.

Mark 9:37,42 (TEV) 37  "Whoever welcomes in my name one of these children, welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me, welcomes not only me but also the one who sent me."… 42  "If anyone should cause one of these little ones to lose faith in me, it would be better for that person to have a large millstone tied around the neck and be thrown into the sea.

PRAYER: May our congregation and all our parents take seriously our ministry to the kids.

Mark 9:47 (TEV) 47  And if your eye makes you lose your faith, take it out! It is better for you to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye than to keep both eyes and be thrown into hell.

PRAYER: Help me to have victory over sin in my life.   With YOUR help, I can do better.

Mark 9:49 (TEV) 49  "Everyone will be purified by fire as a sacrifice is purified by salt.

PRAYER: I don’t like the trials, but I know that I’m better for them.

Mark 9:50 (TEV) 50  "Salt is good; but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? "Have the salt of friendship among yourselves, and live in peace with one another."

PRAYER: May we be the most flavorful of people.  May people yearn the love they see in us.

2 Corinthians 1:4 (TEV) 4  He helps us in all our troubles, so that we are able to help others who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have received from God.

PRAYER: I hope to be a conduit of YOUR blessings. I receive them and I dish them back out there.

2 Corinthians 1:5-6,9 (TEV) 5  Just as we have a share in Christ's many sufferings, so also through Christ we share in God's great help. 6  If we suffer, it is for your help and salvation; if we are helped, then you too are helped and given the strength to endure with patience the same sufferings that we also endure.  9  We felt that the death sentence had been passed on us. But this happened so that we should rely, not on ourselves, but only on God, who raises the dead.

PRAYER: It’s a test, but I hope this suffering will honor YOU and bless others.  Forgive me for trying to do this on my own.

Psalm 95:1-2 (TEV) 1  Come, let us praise the LORD! Let us sing for joy to God, who protects us! 2  Let us come before him with thanksgiving and sing joyful songs of praise.

PRAYER: May YOUR children prepare now for next weekend’s community event.  May we all “sing for joy” whether on key or not. YOU certainly deserve the thanks.

Psalm 95:6-7 (TEV) 6  Come, let us bow down and worship him; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! 7  He is our God; we are the people he cares for, the flock for which he provides. Listen today to what he says:

PRAYER: I’m all ears now, but may we also come with open minds and hearts next weekend for worship.

Psalm 95:8-9 (TEV) 8  "Don't be stubborn, as your ancestors were …. 9  There they put me to the test and tried me, although they had seen what I did for them.

PRAYER: I know, our memories and loyalties seem so short sometimes. Forgive us, please!

1 Samuel 1:9,12 (TEV) 9  …, Hannah got up. She was deeply distressed, and she cried bitterly as she prayed to the LORD. Meanwhile, …. ... 12  Hannah continued to pray to the LORD for a long time, ….

PRAYER: YOU not only don’t mind hearing our cries, I think YOU enjoy the longevity of our conversations (even if they are negative).  Thank YOU

1 Samuel 1:28 (TEV) 28  So I am dedicating him to the LORD. As long as he lives, he will belong to the LORD." Then they worshiped the LORD there.

NOTE: May more parents

PRAYER: May more parents dedicate their children to YOU (not the leaving them at church forever part - lol).

1 Samuel 2:2 (TEV) 2  "No one is holy like the LORD; there is none like him, no protector like our God.

1 Samuel 2:8 (TEV) 8  He lifts the poor from the dust and raises the needy from their misery. He makes them companions of princes and puts them in places of honor. The foundations of the earth belong to the LORD; on them he has built the world.

PRAYER: Help us to spread this incredible and uplifting message to the downtrodden in our community.

1 Samuel 2:17 (TEV) 17  This sin of the sons of Eli was extremely serious in the LORD'S sight, because they treated the offerings to the LORD with such disrespect.

PRAYER: May I never treat my offerings with such contempt, may they always come from a loyal and appreciate heart.

1 Samuel 2:26 (TEV) 26  The boy Samuel continued to grow and to gain favor both with the LORD and with people.

PRAYER: May my life do that also.

1 Samuel 2:30 (TEV) 30  I, the LORD God of Israel, …, I will honor those who honor me, and I will treat with contempt those who despise me.

PRAYER: I hope to be the one who honors YOU today.

THOT: real Jesus followers are servants who do everything out of love.  We are dedicated to the Lord and each other.

TUESDAY 4/17/2018

Read: Mark 10:1-16, 2 Cor 1:12-24, Psa 96, 1 Sam 3-5

Mark 10:4-5,7-8,11 (TEV) 4  Their answer was, "Moses gave permission for a man to write a divorce notice and send his wife away." 5  Jesus said to them, "Moses wrote this law for you because you are so hard to teach. … 7  'And for this reason a man will leave his father and mother and unite with his wife, 8  and the two will become one.' So they are no longer two, but one….) 11  He said to them, "A man who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against his wife.

PRAYER: I pray for all the marriages in the church.  Make each couple as one

Mark 10:14-15 (TEV) 14  When Jesus noticed this, he was angry and said to his disciples, "Let the children come to me, and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15  I assure you that whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it."

PRAYER: Help us all to receive anyone, young or old, who is interested in YOUR Kingdom.

2 Corinthians 1:13 (TEV) 13  We write to you only what you can read and understand. But even though you now understand us only in part, I hope that you will come to understand us completely, so that in the Day of our Lord Jesus you can be as proud of us as we shall be of you.

PRAYER: May we be patient with each other as we continue on this spiritual journey.

Psalm 96:1-2 (TEV) 1  Sing a new song to the LORD! Sing to the LORD, all the world! 2  Sing to the LORD, and praise him! Proclaim every day the good news that he has saved us.

PRAYER: YOU deserve not only fresh praises, but our proclamation of YOU in this world.

Psalm 96:3 (TEV) 3  Proclaim his glory to the nations, his mighty deeds to all peoples.

PRAYER: Open my eyes to see witnessing opportunities.

Psalm 96:13 (TEV) 13  when the LORD comes to rule the earth. He will rule the peoples of the world with justice and fairness.

PRAYER: May I also reflect YOUR justice and fairmindedness.

1 Samuel 3:10 (TEV) 10  The LORD came and stood there, and called as he had before, "Samuel! Samuel!" Samuel answered, "Speak; your servant is listening."

PRAYER: Yes, Lord, speak, your servant is listening.

1 Samuel 5:3,11 (TEV) 3  Early the next morning the people of Ashdod saw that the statue of Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground in front of the LORD'S Covenant Box. So they lifted it up and put it back in its place. … 11  So again they sent for all the Philistine kings and said, "Send the Covenant Box of Israel back to its own place, so that it won't kill us and our families." There was panic throughout the city because God was punishing them so severely.

PRAYER: So YOU are kinda a jokester aren’t YOU?!!!

THOT: Jesus followers can probably achieve that required “childlike faith” by simply singing in public. Give it a try and see.

WEDNESDAY 4/18/2018

Read: Mark 10:17-34, 2 Cor 2, Psa 97, 1 Sam 6-8

Mark 10:18 (TEV) 18  "Why do you call me good?" Jesus asked him. "No one is good except God alone.

Mark 10:21-23,25 (TEV) 21  Jesus looked straight at him with love and said, "You need only one thing. Go and sell all you have and give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven; then come and follow me." 22  When the man heard this, gloom spread over his face, and he went away sad, because he was very rich. 23  Jesus looked around at his disciples and said to them, "How hard it will be for rich people to enter the Kingdom of God!" … 25  It is much harder for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle."

PRAYER: This one is so hard for the American believer.  But help us all to focus more on YOUR Kingdom than this earthly period.

Mark 10:26-27 (TEV) 26  At this the disciples were completely amazed and asked one another, "Who, then, can be saved?" 27  Jesus looked straight at them and answered, "This is impossible for human beings but not for God; everything is possible for God."

PRAYER: I trust in YOU the God of the possible.

Mark 10:29-30 (TEV) 29  "Yes," Jesus said to them, "and I tell you that those who leave home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and for the gospel, 30  will receive much more in this present age. They will receive a hundred times more houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields—and persecutions as well; and in the age to come they will receive eternal life.

PRAYER: So there is prosperity on earth along with some pretty negative stuff.  But the Eternal reward plan is pretty spectacular - thank YOU very much!!!!

Mark 10:31 (TEV) 31  But many who are now first will be last, and many who are now last will be first."

PRAYER: I’ve experienced this!

2 Corinthians 2:7-8 (TEV) 7  Now, however, you should forgive him and encourage him, in order to keep him from becoming so sad as to give up completely. 8  And so I beg you to let him know that you really do love him.

PRAYER: Help us to truly love the fallen and weak among us.

2 Corinthians 2:10-11 (TEV) 10  When you forgive people for what they have done, I forgive them too. …, 11  in order to keep Satan from getting the upper hand over us; for we know what his plans are.

NOTE: Forgiveness is not just personal it’s a corporate move also

PRAYER: Lord, may we all be as merciful as YOU.

2 Corinthians 2:14,16 (TEV) 14  But thanks be to God! For in union with Christ we are always led by God as prisoners in Christ's victory procession. God uses us to make the knowledge about Christ spread everywhere like a sweet fragrance.  16  For those who are being lost, it is a deadly stench that kills; but for those who are being saved, it is a fragrance that brings life. Who, then, is capable for such a task?

PRAYER: May we all be bold and smelly sharers of the faith.

Psalm 97:7 (TEV) 7  Everyone who worships idols is put to shame; all the gods bow down before the LORD.

PRAYER: I’ve experienced that when I’ve worshiped the ‘American Way’, worldly success and all it’s trappings.

Psalm 97:11-12 (TEV) 11  Light shines on the righteous, and gladness on the good. 12  All you that are righteous be glad because of what the LORD has done! Remember what the holy God has done, and give thanks to him.

PRAYER: I will pause to remember and give thanks.

1 Samuel 6:3 (TEV) 3  They answered, "If you return the Covenant Box of the God of Israel, you must, of course, send with it a gift to him to pay for your sin. The Covenant Box must not go back without a gift. In this way you will be healed, and you will find out why he has kept on punishing you."

PRAYER: Boy, don’t mess with the Master, or it’ll cost you, right?!!!

1 Samuel 7:3 (TEV) 3  Samuel said to the people of Israel, "If you are going to turn to the LORD with all your hearts, you must get rid of all the foreign gods and the images of the goddess Astarte. Dedicate yourselves completely to the LORD and worship only him, and he will rescue you from the power of the Philistines."

PRAYER: May the church be wholly devoted to YOUR Word and Will.  May we be wise to the ways of the world without being drawn in to them.  May we shine for YOU.

THOT: for a sincere follower – wealth can be an enemy, forgiveness a habit, humility a constant, and yet he/she is fully of gratitude.

THURSDAY 4/19/2018

Read: Mark 10:35-52, 2 Cor 3, Psa 98, 1 Sam 9-10

Mark 10:43-45 (TEV) 43  This, however, is not the way it is among you. If one of you wants to be great, you must be the servant of the rest; 44  and if one of you wants to be first, you must be the slave of all. 45  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people."

PRAYER: Self-sacrifice, service, and all in love (for whomever) today.

Mark 10:51-52 (TEV) 51  "What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. "Teacher," the blind man answered, "I want to see again." 52  "Go," Jesus told him, "your faith has made you well." At once he was able to see and followed Jesus on the road.

PRAYER: First of all, thanks for even asking what I want.  Secondly, I also want to see clearly enough to follow YOU well.

2 Corinthians 3:12 (TEV) 12  Because we have this hope, we are very bold.

PRAYER: I do have hope, I will be bold in the faith.

2 Corinthians 3:14,16 (TEV) 14  Their minds, indeed, were closed; and to this very day their minds are covered with the same veil as they read the books of the old covenant. The veil is removed only when a person is joined to Christ….. 16  But it can be removed, as the scripture says about Moses: "His veil was removed when he turned to the Lord."

PRAYER: It can be removed.  Guide me to those who remain in the dark.  They will see!

2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (TEV) 17  Now, "the Lord" in this passage is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is present, there is freedom. 18  All of us, then, reflect the glory of the Lord with uncovered faces; and that same glory, coming from the Lord, who is the Spirit, transforms us into his likeness in an ever greater degree of glory.

PRAYER: I am free and constantly growing in YOU.  Amazing, even at my age!   May more and more lives experience this everyday growing transformation YOU do.

Psalm 98:1,4 (TEV) 1   Sing a new song to the LORD; he has done wonderful things! By his own power and holy strength he has won the victory. 4  Sing for joy to the LORD, all the earth; praise him with songs and shouts of joy!

PRAYER: YOU deserve a fresh song from us.  Today, the radio goes off and my voice goes up in praise to YOU my Lord and Savior.

Psalm 98:3,9 (TEV) 3  He kept his promise to the people of Israel with loyalty and constant love for them. All people everywhere have seen the victory of our God. 9  because he comes to rule the earth. He will rule the peoples of the world with justice and fairness.

PRAYER: Thank YOU for YOUR loyalty and love, YOUR justice and fairness.

1 Samuel 9:21 (TEV) 21  Saul answered, "I belong to the tribe of Benjamin, the smallest tribe in Israel, and my family is the least important one in the tribe. Why, then, do you talk like this to me?"

NOTE: Moses thought he couldn’t talk, Gideon believed he was from the weakest stock, and later, David and Solomon would question their position. Isaiah thought himself to sin-stained, and Jeremiah too young.  Yet God used each of them in mighty ways.

NOTE2: The tribe Saul comes from was almost extinguished back in Judges 21.  Don’t write yourself off, ever.

PRAYER: Lord, now more excuses.  I am YOUR’s to do whatever YOU say I can do.

1 Samuel 10:6-7 (TEV) 6  Suddenly the spirit of the LORD will take control of you, and you will join in their religious dancing and shouting and will become a different person. 7  When these things happen, do whatever God leads you to do.

PRAYER: Whatever YOU will, I’ll be a “wild and crazy guy” dancing and shouting (new songs and with joy, of course). YOU lead I’ll follow!

THOT: real believers boldly serve and share faith with the “lost” with hopes that they too will enjoy the daily transformation the Lord brings.

FRIDAY 4/20/2018

Read: Mark 11:1-11, 2 Cor 4, Psa 99, 1 Sam 11-13

Mark 11:8-9 (TEV) 8  Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches in the field and spread them on the road. 9  The people who were in front and those who followed behind began to shout, "Praise God! God bless him who comes in the name of the Lord!

PRAYER: Blessed be YOUR Holy Name, YOU are the one and true King of Kings.

2 Corinthians 4:3-6 (TEV) 3  For if the gospel we preach is hidden, it is hidden only from those who are being lost. 4  They do not believe, because their minds have been kept in the dark by the evil god of this world. …. 5  For it is not ourselves that we preach; we preach Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. 6  The God who said, "Out of darkness the light shall shine!" is the same God who made his light shine in our hearts, to bring us the knowledge of God's glory shining in the face of Christ.

PRAYER: as I once was lost and now am found, I hope to reach others who remain in the dark.  May YOUR light, indeed, shine!!!!

2 Corinthians 4:7 (TEV) 7  Yet we who have this spiritual treasure are like common clay pots, in order to show that the supreme power belongs to God, not to us.

PRAYER: May our lives clearly point to YOUR work in us.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9,12,14-16 (TEV) 8  We are often troubled, but not crushed; sometimes in doubt, but never in despair; 9  there are many enemies, but we are never without a friend; and though badly hurt at times, we are not destroyed. .. 12  This means that death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. … 14  We know that God, who raised the Lord Jesus to life, will also raise us up with Jesus and take us, together with you, into his presence. 15  All this is for your sake; and as God's grace reaches more and more people, they will offer to the glory of God more prayers of thanksgiving. 16  For this reason we never become discouraged. Even though our physical being is gradually decaying, yet our spiritual being is renewed day after day.

PRAYER: Forgive my complaining.  My flesh is weak, but my spirit has just been renewed. Thank YOU!

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (TEV) 17  And this small and temporary trouble we suffer will bring us a tremendous and eternal glory, much greater than the trouble. 18  For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever.

PRAYER: This too shall pass!  Thank YOU!

Psalm 99:8 (TEV) 8  O LORD, our God, you answered your people; you showed them that you are a God who forgives, even though you punished them for their sins.

PRAYER: Like a Father, I have experienced YOUR discipline, because YOU do love me.  But I really appreciate the mercy and grace YOU’ve shown me.

1 Samuel 11:6-7 (TEV) 6  When Saul heard this, the spirit of God took control of him, and he became furious.  7  … The people of Israel were afraid of what the LORD might do, and all of them, without exception, came out together.

PRAYER: Whether from holy indignation, or fear, or even love – may the church unify for the purpose of conquering the world.

1 Samuel 12:14 (TEV) 14  All will go well with you if you honor the LORD your God, serve him, listen to him, and obey his commands, and if you and your king follow him.

PRAYER: I will honor, serve, hear, follow, and obey YOU.

1 Samuel 12:20 (TEV) 20  "Don't be afraid," Samuel answered. "Even though you have done such an evil thing, do not turn away from the LORD, but serve him with all your heart.

PRAYER: And in those moments I do stray, thank YOU for allowing me a chance to repent.

1 Samuel 12:23 (TEV) 23  As for me, the LORD forbid that I should sin against him by no longer praying for you. Instead, I will teach you what is good and right for you to do.

1 Samuel 13:13 (TEV) 13  "That was a foolish thing to do," Samuel answered. "You have not obeyed the command the LORD your God gave you. If you had obeyed, he would have let you and your descendants rule over Israel forever.

NOTE: Israel is in “a desperate situation” vs.6, the men are deserting vs.11, it looked very bad.  Faith none-the-less is the answer.

PRAYER: I will trust in YOU and lean not on my own understanding.

THOT: Jesus followers aren’t promised a “rose garden” without the thorns.  We remain faithful and obedient no matter what the circumstance.
